Hi, I was wondering what was the meaning of the newest characters:
Geras: obviously a nod to the ancient Greek God of senility.
Kronika: a nod to Kronos personification of time
Kollector: he obviously collects something
Cetrion:??? She is a homage to all the Mother Goddesses of humanity but her name...?
D'Vorah: from "to devour" also a nod to Hebrew name Deborah which means "bee"
Erron Black: Alternative spell of Aaron and Black is a well known and frequently met anglophone last name.

Jacqui: they were thinking of a female name that would resemble Jax most, in order to make her as unremarkable as possible.
To contrast Jackson they should've gone with Jackdaughter.
Screw it, FemJax is easier to say/type.

cool thing with D'Vorah. i hoped that Kollector will not be official name, just work-name, but it seems, its official...
Agreed on Kollector, I was hoping it was just his working name and would end up changed like Geras. Feels more like a title than a name.
I at least hope they call him "Kollector" and not "The Kollector" as adding "The" just makes it seem all the clunkier.
This takes me back to the lead-up to Deadly Alliance, when Kenshi's name was "Blind Kenshi" ... god am I glad they decided to drop the word "Blind"
For whatever reason I also hate the fact that Ferra/Torr is written with a slash. I'm not sure why. I wish they'd dashed it like they did Noob-Smoke. Maybe just for the sake of being consistent. A dash makes it feel like a compound. A slash feels more like a divider. I dunno.
(Stupid as all this sounds, I'm serious... lol. Nitpicky about naming conventions, what can I say...)
Any hint about Cetrion?
Really curious
I tried to search on Google and trying variations like "Ceterion", "Centrion" etc but nothing resemble it

Could the name Cetrion be inspired by Centurion? Centurion is related to century, which is also a unit of time. Cetrion is Kronika's daughter. Yes, it feels like reaching but it's all I can come up with. lol

Never shake hands with a man who wears his heart on his sleeve.

Preeeetty sure it's intended to be a title. That's the most obvious interpretation, anyway.
Considering the long history of Mortal Kombat characters naming themselves after things, it doesn't seem too out of place... though I would say it sounds more like an NPC you talk to about a MacGuffin than a warrior.

I understand that, I'm just saying I dislike it.
To quote one of my favorite cartoons of all time, Gargoyles, "It's just that, well... uh... things need names."
To your second point about characters naming themselves after things, that's kinda why I hope they drop the "The" from his name. Kollector doesn't sound as out of place. Wheras The Kollector hits my ear wrong. As would The Reptile, The Frost, The Rain or The Scorpion.
I'm sure Kollector isn't his birth name, and merely a label he earned through kollecting. Just as Reptile or Scorpion are not the actual names of Syzoth or Hanzo. But Kollector at least sounds like a Moniker, wheras The Kollector sounds like a clunky descriptor.

I actually think the opposite, at least in Noob-Smoke's case. I think it would have made more sense for it to be Noob/Smoke, because they're working primarily as a tag team, so at any given time, you're either controlling Noob or you're controlling Smoke, one or the other.
If anything, with Ferra/Torr, they're more in sync, symbiotic, and are always together, fighting as one, so the dash would be more appropriate there. But personally, I would've been fine if they wrote it as "Ferra & Torr" or something like that. Doesn't roll off the tongue as well, but it describes their paired dynamic a lot better.

Certainly better than my initial thought that maybe it comes from Greek, or Latin, or something. But upon further research, Cetra, in Latin, is a type of musical instrument, and this character doesn't seem to have anything to do with music.
