Am I the only one that is noticing a distinct lack of hype, intrigue and suspense from NRS this time around? I mean don’t get me wrong I am super hyped for this game as I am for all MK games but I remember this site back in the MKX pre release days and it was full of hype, speculation and activity as was most other MK forums and the NRS/Ed Boon twitter feeds. However this time round not so much.

I don’t know ifthe constant leaks have just taken the wind out of the NRS sails but there just seems to be little to no effort to build hype/intrigue/suspense this time round. I remember the boots pic from MKX and the constant character hints from Boon, this time all we get is a bit of hype the day before and the day of the Kombat Kast then nothing but MK Kollectove art work or old stills/videos from the game that we have already seen a thousand times. If the leaks are true which they appear to be then NRS need to own that shit, release an image of the character select screen, release a schedule of Kombat kasts/reveals give us something to look forward to and something to talk about.

There is still many unknowns about this game that they can tease and hype up but they just really don’t seem to be interested this time around which is sad.

Don’t take this as another NRS bashing or whinge thread I am just somewhat disappointed with the lack of hype building especially compared to MKX and want to know everyone else’s thoughts on it, we are very close to release and even closer to beta and I am just expecting/hoping for a bit more hype building!

****** Update disregard my post the story trailer completely blew the hype through the roof!!!! Good on you NRS right on time!!!!

Now keep it rolling until April

I've never been more hyped myself...

Finally, we have a Mk game in which we don't know everything before release.

Ok, we know the roster, but nothing about story mode, DLCs skins, stages, hidden features, game modes, etc.

By two months before release we knew everything about mkx and the same went for MK9

For some reason I wasn’t that hyped for MKX.

Mk9 I was here daily then mkx I really only got hyped after the cage family trailer.

With 11 im pumped but there seems to be less hype around here. I was studying during 9 so I spent more time online

I hear ya OP, and I agree.

It would be nice if NRS just owned the leaks and turned them into a positive. Instead it appeared that they all took a day off from any type of media the day of the leaks... almost like NRS held a meeting and was like: “shut it down people”

It feels as though the steam leak really let the steam out of the whole hype train.

.... gawd that pun was horrible but it was pretty great too, huh?

I think a lot of it has to do with the short launch cycle for this MK game. Think about it, we were only made aware of this game when it was nearing the end of its development. Normally we are told a year in advance and have a whole year to marinate and build anticipation and speculation about the next MK and with that NRS usually has to be a little more reserved when it comes to releasing info. Peppering hints and teases. A character reveal in a month maybe? A boot here. A cryptic Boon tweet there.

On top of that, the roster leak probably dampened things some. After the roster is out of the way there isn't much left to speculate or generate hype around due to how the format of the story and how characters are handled these days. A few characters soak up the bulk of the spotlight and others are left to remain one dimensional, where before, bio's would flesh out each characters and explain their motive and reason to be in the game.

On a personal note, I'm more intrigued than hyped for MK games these days.

I only have so much hype to give and half of it was spent on REmake 2 the rest is all going towards Doom Eternal.

There just isn't enough time to generate hype.

Also, the game was never at E3, where the majority of its hype comes from. I'm getting the game for the Switch, so there isn't too much for me to be hyped about, given all the exclusive content is on the Xbox and PS4, and the Switch port will likely be released at a later date.

I think it is to do with the fact so little information has been released. Even with the later announcement of the game compared to previous installments they have been reticent to reveal much. Only 12 characters have been officially released even though the release of the game is next month. By this time in the MKX cycle the story trailer had dropped introducing Jacqui, Takeda and Kung Jin at the end of February 2015. I think they had already revealed all the characters by this time in the MKX cycle.

Witht the later announclemet I would have thought they would release information and trailers at a quicker pace but it has not been happenning. We are getting reveals slowly and some characters like D'Vorah we have not even seen in game yet. They still have to annoucne what the first round of DLC is.

The roster leak was HYPE. Their KK's - not so much. The Johnny Cage reveal video is an undeniable masterpiece tho, and I'm not even a huge fan of Cage. That says a lot!

I'm sure the game is nowhere near completion and they're working hard to meet the deadlines. Hopefully, the MKX PC launch fiasco does not repeat itself with MK11.

They probably discovered that too much hype kills a game too? When you put out too much before release, what is there still to be discovered afterwards? They've got fans already, but not the ones that aren't really that invested in MK.
They probably know they don't need to show everything about the game to get it to sell, just show just enough to intrigue people instead of hyping it up.

Most of us here have been through an MK marketing cycle before, more than once. Even under the best of circumstances, when leaks haven't burned up all the hype fuel in one brief, furious flash... the human brain only has so much endurance to maintain a prolonged state of high excitement. You get desensitized after a few go-rounds. And longtime fans are harder to surprise: any time a staple character gets revealed, even the people who want to see them come back are going to have a somewhat dampened response.

The ones who are most invested in the series will be the hardest ones to impress. We see this in action every day. I'm pretty excited for the game and eager to dig in, but even I feel those tension-induced neurotransmitters having a much duller effect than they used to.

I think this has something to do with why the Johnny Cage trailer was surprisingly effective at cranking up the hype. Even veteran fans wouldn't have expected him to have this much flair, and he just exploded. Unfortunately that also means he's gonna be a tough act to follow, and the characters to come are going to have to bring something really special to keep the momentum up.

Can't really speculate on the story when it involves a time-manipulating being that's higher tier than the Elder Gods. Pretty much anything goes. Despite that, we know the outcome is intended to bring back a lot of stuff from the original timeline - as a sort of course correction. MK(2011) = New 52.... MK11 = Rebirth.

Can't really get excited for the story when it comes off as just a cross between MK(2011)'s time-travelling and Injustice's multiple-versions-of-the-same-character.

Can't get hyped for the roster when it's mostly the same old Earthrealmers yet again - Made up of the most over-used and bland characters in the series. With multiple clone characters (Johnny+Sonya+Cassie; Jax+Jacqui; Sub-Zero+Frost). They're leaving out highly requested fan favourites and characters you'd think would be a dead certain consider the nature of the story.

The only new character they've shown is Geras and he's lackluster.

For me personally, the things I'm hyped about: Scorpion is using his ropedart like a ropedart for once; Raiden has a bunch of cool new moves (even if his Fatalities still suck as usual); Noob is back and so is the good Raiden (hopefully he's not a complete moronic dumbass like he was in MK(2011).

Oh, and those cool-looking tribal warriors behind Shao Kahn in that one shot... that's probably one of the bigger highlights for me. Wish they were playable instead of the boring Special Forces characters.

Why do I have a feeling that one of those tribal characters will atleast become a dlc character to play?

I really would not bet on it. They're just able to detail the background characters more because of the substantial increase in budget.

I was hyped, the reveal was awesome. But have got more disappointed as the weeks and reveals have gone on. Hopefully a reveal of Shang or Reiko will help.

My latest moan is the recycled animations . Skarlets idle is MKX Kitanas animation and Kanos is Mileenas MKX idle animation

Yeah...I don't see any of that lol. I stopped following Ed Boon and the MK11 twitter and despite me following several other gaming accounts, I haven't seen MK11 trend since it's announcement.

There's hype though on messageboards like MKO.

While I agree and know that's the case, past has also shown that NRS is willing to include random characters that get a lot of interest from gamers. Guest characters they still need to work on from scratch. Those tribal characters already have some work done to them.

Yeah decades after people keep demanding said obscure character get some attention though? I thought the next one people were trying to hammer our of NRS was some character who came from a toy or something named Chrome?
