Hello,
This is a funny question, I enjoyed MK9 and X story mode run through, but it was so silly that let's say if I have friends who are non gamers I wouldn't run it in front of them.
I tried it once and they were like, this is early teenage level at best sans the violence of course.
You know lines like " he was my friend" when Liu beats Shao Kahn and what not... It's just so gringy I can't run it in front of people.

I'll Mortal Kombat in front of non-gamers, gamers, Republicans. idgaf

Why not? I like the "funny" faces they pull when they see it "What the hell is that? YOU'RE CRAZY". Yeah I am :D

Never shake hands with a man who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Total non-gamers might not have enough context to fully appreciate the story going on in this game anyway, since it bridges so much material from previous games.
Maybe you need a different way to entertain your non-gamer friends than having them watch you play story mode, haha.
To be fair, the writing did get better from MK9 to MKX. Not necessarily the plotting, but at least I don't expect to encounter too many cringey dialogue moments as they keep progressing at this.

I generally wouldn't play any story mode in front of anyone because I wouldn't want them talking over cutscenes / dialogue. That, and I feel anxious when people are watching me play games - gamers or not.
However, if you have friends over as guests, that aren't into games, and you're going to play a singleplayer game (or the SP mode of a game), while they have to sit there and watch you. Well, that's just rude!

Sounds to me like you're ashamed to be a Mortal Kombat fan. Your friends aren't ashamed to geek out and recite every cheesy line from those big loud generic Avengers films in front of you- then you shouldn't be ashamed to play story mode in front of them.
Geek out.
In the words of our lord Lemmy "Tell em to shove it boy. Do what you want."
Enjoy the things that bring you joy regardless of whether your peers approve of it.
On another note though, if you just want to show it to them, just find a video on youtube that compiles all the custscenes. They're up practically the day of release.
Playing the fighting mode at a casual hookah bar with non gamers was fun. The cassie selfie fatality had a lot of people laughing and enjoying it even soccer mom's and dad's. For that, I like Cassie in that aspect. Some characters appeal to casuals and some appeal to MK fans and gamers. Story mode however.... I don't think i would play that in front of casuals at the bar. It does look a hell of a lit less cheesy now and I think they would get a kick out John cages deadpool personality.
