Hey everyone. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this topic. Personally, I feel the MK team for the past few games reveals way too much way too soon. By the time the game comes out, we usually know everyone that is in the game, what the fatalities are, all of the stages, most of the alternates, and even most of the fatality commands.
Is anyone else kinda annoyed by this? On one hand, yes, I am right there with you in the excitement, wanting to know exactly what is going to be in the game. On the other hand, part of me wants the team to keep a lot of things from being revealed before the game releases. Some surprise characters, unseen fatalities, and even unmentioned stages would, IMO, make a most memorable first gaming experience with the new Mortal Kombat.
What are your thoughts? How much being revealed becomes too much for you?

I agree because being able to figure out things yourself is so much better and it gets you more involved into the game therefore making you love it that much more

The story should be completely secret, it feels so much more satisfying cuz I remember buying Deception knowing nothing about the game and I was amazed with the story... Some the characters needed some work though or atleast their own movelist... I mean, Kira and Darrius could have been fan favorites since they look badass...

Getting back on topic, they should also keep atleast half the roster a secret from the fans and we should start with 7-8 characters...

also, anything that is unlockable should be kept secret. Its cool to see a new costume by going online and saying to the guy, oh Shit!!! where you get that?

Characters should be revealed, I don't care about anything else.

Reveal the default characters that you don't unlock, reveal the stages you don't unlock, reveal some fatalities, and show official renders. That's really all they have to do to hype the game.

The following post is said in all respect to all those who hold the contrary view.

If you don't want news, why don't you just not read the updates? If you say, "but it's fun to speculate," Then I say "why speculate over information we already have? Speculating is the thing I do when I CAN'T get any more information!" The only thing I don't wanna know are the endings and story-mode twists.

More importantly, if we know how a game's doing development-wise, we can voice criticism and possibly change negative features. That's precisely how Chameleon and Meat made their way into Armageddon.

People, please don't rally behind this cause. I don't want to lose out on new info because people don't have the will-power to avoid the MK section at gamespot.com.

If it were up to me, I'd have Warner Bros. send me every roster member and character bio on silver plate. Tonight.

You're completely right. I'd like to be completely surprised and have it like the old days where I would get to experience everything fresh, but unfortunately I have no self control so that's not going to work out, lol.

I promised myself I wouldn't watch the 12 minute demo since it's going to be a while before the game is released, but I caved two days later, haha.

Reading all the info. and getting to speculate on rumours and updates is still a fun experience though so I don't mind all that much, but really it's not up to the team to hide anything for anyone's enjoyment.

I'd like to know about 20 characters that will be in the game and a few kept secret. I hope they release renders for them all tho.

Even if they did hide loads of characters there will be some person who will read the disc code or whatever and find out who is hidden.
Also when the game comes out there will be many many spoiler threads e.g "SHEEVA IS A SECRET CHARACTER!!!111z"

So i would like alot kept secret but wont be surprised if everything gets spoiled thanks to eager forum users lol.

And wasn't it a magnificent demo? grin
The whole roster should NOT be released. Maybe half but not the entire thing. Since you know its going to be MK 1-3 based that all you need to know. Same with stages in the game. reveal some but not all. Show maybe 4-5% of the story to tease it and show the new direction its taking. Then hint at secrets in the game without revealing them

Temp, how could you not want surprises in this game? Its Mortal Kombat, the game that invented the secret character! I really hope they keep like 10 characters hidden and only release their renders after the release of the game.

Oh, It was grand!

The temptation was too much, I had to give in. Even though it might sound ridiculous, there was a tinge of guilt while watching it, since I did make a promise to myself, but it was worth it in the end.

I justified it by telling myself that I'd just watch this video to satisfy my hunger, but I fear it's too late. The flood gates have opened. I have to know everything now, lol.

I really hate it when the "Super Unlockable" or the "Secret" are revealed way before the game comes out.

Ed Boon said in an interview that thos time around they wont show us everything before the game is released. I hope they'll manage to do it...

Just the way things are turning out now it fun... I mean people are wondering why Rain is there, who's the fighters on the bridge etc... That hype is what I, personnaly, like about MK. It reminds me the era were MK2 came out and kids at my school were buying Fatality codes from each other.

The new generation have it all to easy. One or two clics and bam! the whole guide is in front of them. Bio, Endings, moves etc...

Give us some... but not everything...
Please Boon, surprise us!

How much should be kept secret? Hmm....

That would depend on how long we have to wait for the game. If the game is coming out next month or something like than, then we already know all that we need to keep interested.

If the game is not coming out until next summer (a possibility you must admit), then they are going to have to reveal more just to keep the public interested. If the buying public loses interest then the sales will not be as high.

In either case, there are some things they should keep secret such as the majority of fatalities, any more details in the storyline, and the majority of any videos (ie bios, endings, etc) that they may have if any and secret characters. They are called 'Secret' characters for a reason.

Somethings to reveal should only be increase interest and not give too many spoilers include the name and renders of playable characters, some arenas and maybe a teaser video clip here and there which are extremely short and show just enough to keep us discussing what the hell could be going on. They should spread this out and not dump large amount of info at one time. Little bits of info at a time keep us talking about the game and the interest in it on the high side. If done right the pre-orders alone could break records.
