How would you rewrite it?

Cause some parts of the story are okay. Some just need changes.

That includes the endings.

Taven wins Armageddon and the fighters get super charged and a majority die. Some new faces enter the arena and Shinnok changes his plans of ascension, while keep Johnny and other heroes,as a result, under his deception.

I'm mostly concerned with the art designs and gameplay these days. I wasn't happy with MK9's story, but I'm over it.

Assuming we're still going with "Time travel back to MK1-3 and changing the timeline", well, so far:

-No baby Mileena

-No turning Kuai Liang into a cyborg....Speaking of which....

-Cyber Sub-Zero would be Bi-Han's corpse reanimated as a Frankenstein/prototype for the cyber initiative. Plus, if Smoke were to stay human, you could still get Noob-Smoke, except it would actually be Noob tag teaming with his own corpse. Although I'd be fine with either tag team.

-Not sure who if any character I would kill, I actually like just about all the characters from the original trilogy, but if I did...

-I would not go on a mass slaughter of the heroes and leaving the survivors ill prepared for Shinnok's coming invasion

That's it so far. Now, if we're just talking MK1-3 without time travel: Leave the story and characters the way they fucking were 20 years ago period.

Don't fucking touch the old canon and go in another direction, specifically I wanna see the continuation of MK Armageddon, with most characters dead and new faces. My ideal dream is that MK9's story and games after are complete new universe, while some group of artists and comic writers retell us what REALLY happened from MK1 till MK Armageddon. And I mean REALLY,because MK9 butchered the original storyline pretty bad and I don't care if there are who disagrees because it is useless to argue with them if they don't admit it.

Yeah, I mean they're owned by WB now, which means DC could publish MK comics. I'd fucking love for that to happen.

Yeah, but I want those DC comics writers to sit down and AT LEAST read the original bios and endings before writing up the story. Some serious research would be nice, and I would LOVE for them to actually spend some time with some "story guys" from this board. Some writers actually listen to fans one way or the other.

I really liked the story. I would change a few things, but they're not significant enough that would completely change the entire story or major events.

My only complaint is that I wished the scene with Sindel killing off everyone lasted a bit longer and made it look like the heroes had some sort of a chance to go against her.

Other than that, I would just have added a few other characters to the story and make some characters not punching bags throughout the story.

It should've been Taven the one to send vision's to Raiden's past self.

The One Being is influencing Shao Kahn.

Kahn (One Being's voice): Where are the Elder gods, Taven? Their pathetic Mortal Kombat shackles me no longer!
Kahn (One Being's voice): They masquerade as dragons. But are mere toothless worms. You may have defeated Blaze... but this works in my favor.

My venom spreads! It is the end of all things... Armageddon!

Taven: Ahhh! Stop! (Kahn kicks Taven to the other side)

Raiden: Taven....
Taven: Raiden?
Raiden: I'm so... sorry... for everything. You should've through what the realms... and its warriors are going through... if you were awoken for sometime.
Taven: How can I stop it? My family failed.... I failed.
Raiden: Take this. (Raiden shows Taven his amulet)
Taven: Your amulet?
Raiden: There is a way... (Raiden whispers to Taven's ear)

Taven realizing this, he takes the amulet and does a chant.

Taven: The true hero... must win! (Kahn finishes Taven with his hammer after the spell is complete)

I really freaking love this. I wish I could see the original story given the same treatment as the story mode in MK9; I really do think it was the best.

Absolutely beautiful, man. If I may ask, how's it going with the MK2 outline?

I've got it all plotted out in very rough form, but I'd like to finish the costumes before I write it.

Cool, take your time. Can't rush excellence. Edit: So does that mean you were finally able to come up with some kind of tourney, 'cause I know you said that was a pain in the ass, ha ha.

More or less. The first round bracket doesn't have an even number of fights, but I'm just gonna fudge it a bit by having some of it happen offscreen while the characters are doing more important stuff like Liu and Kitana meeting in secret or Jax trying to rescue Sonya.

Sounds good. Although with that being said, do you think plotting out MK3 will be easier or harder to do?

Probably about the same, to be honest. Maybe a little harder, since with MK2, the first act is just taking what was in the comic and adding to it, and I might be able to borrow scenes or ideas from Shaolin Monks and MK9 too, since they weren't completely off. But MK3 never got adapted and nothing in 9's version of the invasion is how it happened in the original.

I agree, although I did enjoy seeing Stryker kick ass against the first wave of the invasion, plus Kabal's whole scenes with Kano. Those are probably the only things I'd keep from 9's version of MK3, at the very least maybe having Stryker defend some innocents from generic extermination squad dudes, at most/worst named characters like Reptile, Mileena, and Baraka or even maybe the Tormentor thing in the background of the Street/Bridge stage right before the whole souls getting sucked up into the Soulnado thing happens and he finds himself the last man alive in the city. Obviously, that kinda thing most likely didn't happen in the old timeline, but MK2 with the Tarkatan massacre of the Shaolin temple already proved that Outworld didn't need to win the tournaments to randomly enter/invade Earthrealm, plus this way we'd get to see Stryker in action and see why he's worthy of being one of Raiden's champions since "old" Stryker was largely ignorant of why he was spared from the invasion in the first place. And obviously I'd keep Kabal's origin the same as the original, getting fucked by one of the random extermination squads, but keep the part where Kano picks him up and takes him to get fixed up and he has the meltdown after finding out his old comrade was partly responsible for his scars. Other than that, I agree with you 100%. Well, Nightwolf (with maybe a few others) going to take out the Soulnado could probably work too. And Johnny getting killed by Motaro, too. Speaking of which, are you going to go with that and have him return from the dead ala MKT or just have him not get killed period, lol.

Johnny's gotta die and come back. It's important to MK4.

Plus, it and Armageddon are the only times he ever got any character development and started having a reason to act serious.
Besides, I never saw that bit in his Deadly Alliance bio as a retcon and I don't know how the rumor that it is one ever got started. It's a joke about him being too egotistical to admit he'd ever died and make a movie about it, that's all.

If I ever were to rewrite it, I would stick with the Legacy route and reinvent the whole thing from scratch and base it intrinsically on the mythology it tried to adopt as it's own.

Starting with the cosmology, the whole Elder God/One Being thing is supremely stupid if you think about it... the Elder Gods devise a tournament that can be circumvented by marriage arrangements. Wonderful. It's like the Elder God just needs to lay back in it's fragmented nonexistence and enjoy the fools unmaking themselves.

The whole Armageddon story that supposedly gave us the origin of MK was a hasty brainstorm with not much afterthought. For me, overall I think MK3 was the turning point with the exception of MKDA-and parts of MKD what started the bad comic book feel.

And lately the art design followed suit, in MK9 they look more akin to superheroes than actual functional warriors. I mean, Shang Tsung for example is a step down concerning MK vs DC, barely anything tells me he is a Yellow Peril character. Aside from hillarious voice acting.

I think what I ould throw out would be Outworld and the realms as a concept. The He-Man like stereotype-landscape does not do it for me (chaos-order-Eden-hell-even bigger hell-afterlife hell). No ambiguity. Let it be an overlapping fantasy world of myths.

Let Raiden be a Japanese thundergod (and preferably more akin to MK1 Raiden), let Shao Kahn be a warlord from ages past, let Reptile be a kappa and not an intelligent exodite dinosaur. Explore the mythoi of the world, let Scorpion be an Onryoo, etc.

And let it be character driven. Because I think that is why the Legacy series has garnered attention, and why MK9 was enjoyable on the acting level - -> the characters were given a spotlight. Let the characters define the conflict, not vice versa because then we get the God of Blunder and his Wacky Entourage.

Nothing. Not to say the story presented is good, MK9's story is good in the same sense that Woody Allen is an NBA star. But the possiblities it opens up regarding time travel and a potential multiverse, make up, to me anyway, for the general shoddiness.
