Someone had an idea about Liu joining the Red Dragon. What do you think? At least he'll be neutral and Mavado and the Red Dragon will be involved in the next game.
With Daegon gone, the Red Dragon will become interesting.

That part was just made up I had in mind.
Exactly what reason would Liu Kang have to join the Red Dragon? What they do and what Liu Kang does are not even close to being similar whatsoever.
The Red Dragon breeds hybrid dragons last time we saw them, just because Liu can morph into one doesn't mean that he should join a clan that breeds dragons.
Their goals are world domination and to eliminate Taven as well as the Black Dragon. I don't think, if Liu were to return for the next game and this group comes back as well, Liu would join and try to dominate the world.
And the reasoning behind Liu joining the Red Dragon wouldn't make sense either. What purpose would the Red Dragon have on Liu for him to join their clan?

Was just an id, but as for the reasoning since the timeline changd their story could change. Maybe he wants to find a means of saving earth by killing other beings. Mavado allows him entry in hopes of gaining better training for his assassins, their disentangle have to be trust in this recruitment and it could cause tension and anger. The red dragon clan could be forced to be good for the moment due to demons attacking mavado.

The Red Dragon ('s main ally Quan Chi) follows Daegon, which is allied with Shinnok. Unlike the Black Dragon, you do not see how it fit into the next story, the Red Dragon should be, but the side of Shinnok and Quan Chi (and only with Mavado and Daegon, which is enough).
