It's an interesting idea but I don't know if it would work. I think there'd be too much confusion over canon not to mention it would require a lot more work for the programmers to make multiple timelines

This sounds like a really cool idea. While it would confuse as to what is canon, prior to the story mode we didn't know until the next game anyway. Still I would like story mode to be canon since that is it's purpose. Perhaps having some choices but rather small consequences could be a way around it. Or either choice made would result in the same outcome, although through a different path.
Still a very nice idea.

I brought this idea up a few weeks ago
But yeah, I definitely think it would give story mode a great replay value, and it could also be used to unlock other characters (Cyber Smoke anyone?)

If they could find a way to properly implement it, I'm all for it.

Brought this Idea month's ago, but It would be a cool Idea for the next game. MK 2011 didn't really have time to experiment so it was probably best to perfect the chapter structure after how lame MK vs DC was.
I like this idea, but, I agree with this fellow's post:
Story length/material/depth might be sacrificed in order to make multiple timelines/outcomes possible, and, I'm not sure I'm up for that.
It would work amazingly well on an adventure game though. This is something we seriously need again.
MKSM proved it can happen....just don't repeat the same terrible lame and lazy mistakes with the storyline.
