Blaze's ending has him rampaging through the realms as an unstoppable beast, currupted by the events that led to his imprisonment and all that. I guess that would be reason enough for Radien to do what he does.

You think Liu or somebody could have brought Raiden back to his senses and he then sees the danger? Or did blaze just over power him, and with his last breath, he sent the message back?

My current speculation is Shao Kahn victorious against Blaze. I believe once he absorbed the powers from him, he went on a rampage against the Forces of Light, killing them all. Raiden of course tries to stop him (though it is futile without his comrades like in the beginning of MK:D) and this we get to the point where he is about to be slain. Raiden then does the time traveling message and the MK9 goodness begins from there.

We've already been told the reason Raiden sends the message is because Shao Kahn is about to kill him.

So either Kahn beat Blaze or Taven beat Blaze, accidentally making everybody in the crater stronger, and they kept fighting and Kahn was winning that fight. And since MKA's konquest mode actually ended with Taven beating Blaze, I'm guessing that's the ending they mean to be canon.

I must have missed that. The trailer show it, but did someone say something?

Ed Boon says it in the original IGN interview that revealed the storyline.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1098513p1.html

"So we're kind of doing a Back to the Future type of thing, where Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before he delivers the last blow, he sends a mental message to his earlier self, so the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat 1."

I'm leaning more towards Tavens ending, not just because it usually the hero of the game that has the true ending, but also his ending was that killing blaze did not stop armageddon from happening because Blaze has been corrupt and so everyone gained the powers.

That being said the eyes and skin on Kahns close up on the trailer looks a bit like a cross between Blaze and the Onaga, so who knows.

Konquest is always canon.

Taven beat Blaze, but like the MKA ending says...instead of anulling the fighter's powers or killing them, they made them all stronger than ever before.

My guess is that after that they all just kept fighting until finally only Kahn and Raiden stood. Then, Kahn wins.

Nah, Kahn's eyes have always looked like that.

I get the sinking impression we won't be getting closure to this question. The game intro will just start with Kahn and Raiden fighting, not really answering who killed Blaze. Video game's are infamous for stuff like that.

If they don't even show Blaze, then the most obvious answer would be Konquest Mode's ending is canon, Taven killed him.

My guess is just like every other MK game, no one ending will be COMPLETELY canon, and we'll just get a hodgepodge that suits the needs of this particular game.

The story will start off with Armageddon somehow causing a major fuster-cluck that needs fixing... Raiden will rewind the continuity... all the best pieces of the present and past that Ed Boon wants from every character and every story will be cherry-picked and placed into the new game. The reality rewind will be used to explain away any plotholes.

If it works out, they'll continue on with the rebooted reality in the next game, and have the storylines deviate even further in new and unforseen directions that fork off from the original continuity.

If it doesn't workout, they'll rezap the story back to the prime continuity and again, use the opportunity to start over cherry-picking the things they like best... using the reality rewind to explain away any plotholes.

I read somewhere that Ed Boon claimed this game isn't a reboot... frankly, I don't know where he gets off making that claim. (If he truly did. I admit, I could be mistaken. Third hand info and all.)

It so friggin is a reboot. It's not a complete and undeniable reboot like say... The Dark Knight vs Tim Burton's Batman... it's just more like the new Star Trek movie... where the story has roots in the original continuity, but still forks off into a new reality and allows for new plot directions.

It's a reboot disguised as the next chapter of the canon story.

Reading the EGM character bio for the upcoming game johnny cage's bio say he claimed the power and has chosen the path of enlightenment.... "before attaining godlike powers in Mortal Kombat Armagededdon and giving up material success for a life of enlightenment"
