I thought it's about time to ask this question. We're slowly starting to get new insights to MKX's main story and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on who's MK9 ending was either canon, or closest to canon by relevance to MKX's story plot.

At the moment, I'm thinking it was Quan Chi's...

Just a refresher...

Quan Chi MK9 Ending :

"Having finally brought about Shao Kahn's demise, Quan Chi was then tasked with growing the ranks of the Brotherhood of Shadow.
Many warriors had perished in Outworld's invasion of Earthrealm. Quan Chi stole their souls and remade them to serve his master, the fallen Elder God.
The task completed, Shinnok repaid Quan Chi's service by ordering his execution, thereby eliminating a possible challenger to his rule.
Quan Chi had anticipated this act of treachery, however, and resurrected Shao Kahn--the ultimate phantom warrior.
With Shao Kahn as his enforcer, Quan Chi struck down the Brotherhood of Shadow and Shinnok. Quan Chi forgives betrayal from no one. Not even a god."

This rings a bell for quite a few story possibilities circling MK4 that we're likely to see. The Brotherhood - Reiko, Sareena, Noob. Maybe even the likes of Ashrah, or Shujinko. However brief of a period, they did cross paths at some point. Also mentions Quan Chi stealing the souls of conquered warriors and having them "remade" (confirmed) to serve Shinnok. Shinnok. There's another reference to MK4 plot material.

And there's still the open question as to whom the boss will be in MKX as well. But Quan Chi's ending suggests the return of Shao Kahn as his "enforcer". Shao would certainly fit the "surprise" motif. And maybe it's possible he'll use Shao Kahn to "strike down" Shinnok as well. That certainly sounds like "grand schemes coming to fruition."

Actually, with that in mind, some sort of buffed Quan Chi could possibly be the final boss.

Thoughts?

Hhhhhhmmmmm. I can't tell yet. I'll wait for the game to see who the final boss is. All this speculation is gonna make someone go crazy, once things turn out different on release day of MK:X. My only hope is that this new boss serves as a challenge to me. Goro, Kahn and Shang were too easy to kill in MK:9. Quan's existence will always be more powerful then anyone in Mortal Kombat. Thanks to his unattached personality to anyone, and his lust for power he will remain unharmed. To survive, even Quan can betray the power of a God's(Shinnok) influence. As for the stories, with every game Im expecting some returns with characters like you do. Im just dissapointed a little bit with the lack of new. Every Mortal Kombat game feels a little...... the same. I hope they add more new characters. I have been whooping Shang Tsungs and Kahns tail for years sense I was a little kid. A new boss is in order. Seriously. Its about time.

At least I've got something I can direct it towards. Otherwise, I would go crazy, lol. And oh yeah, Goro, Kintaro and Kahn were all pushovers. Shang Tsung was alright on the tougher difficulties I thought.

Also, considering the new reveal -

Kung Lao's MK9 Ending:
"Kung Lao had avenged his ancestor's death and saved Earthrealm from Shao Kahn's brutality.
In quiet reflection with Raiden at the grave of the Great Kung Lao, he touched the modest stone marker. Images of past events, moments of someone else's life, flashed through his mind, concluding with a lost battle against Goro. Raiden theorized that Kung Lao had unlocked memories of his past life. The Kung Lao that stood before Raiden was in fact the reincarnation of the Great Kung Lao, who had been defeated by Goro 500 years ago. He had accomplished in the present what he could not in the past."

There could be some truth in his ending too!

Others like Cyrax, Sektor, and Liu Kang's endings are to be kept in mind as well -

Cyrax' MK9 Ending:
"Although he had pledged his life to the Lin Kuei, Cyrax left the clan to help the Earthrealm heroes turn back Shao Kahn's invasion.
For this act of desertion, he was marked for termination by the new Grand Master--Sektor. Surrounded and severely outnumbered, Cyrax prepared to meet his fate when Raiden came to his aid. With him were 100 Shaolin monks. The Lin Kuei were defeated, though Sektor was not counted among the dead. Cyrax was offered sanctuary at the Wu Shi Academy, where he has begun a new life as an honorable warrior for peace."

Sektor's MK9 Ending:
"Sektor had dedicated his life to the Lin Kuei. His victories had brought honor to his father, the Grand Master. He had proven himself worthy. It was time to replace his father. In a bold attack, Sektor smashed through a company of Lin Kuei guards as he pushed toward the Grand Master’s chamber. There he found his father waiting. The Grand Master warned him that wearing the Dragon Medallion brought much power, but at a cost. Sektor ignored the warning and slew his father, whose soul burst from his body and flew into the medallion. Sektor placed the artifact around his neck. He had finally seized control of the Lin Kuei."

Liu Kang's MK9 Ending:
"Having defeated Shao Kahn, Liu Kang believed he was the only one capable of defending Earthrealm against outside threats.
During the invasion Raiden had been more burden than ally. Brazenly he demanded the Elder Gods grant him the thunder god's status. In a one-match Mortal Kombat tournament, Liu Kang defeated his former friend and mentor. Liu Kang's request was granted. He was made a god, the new Protector of Earthrealm."

All of those seem to have bits of possible truths. Liu Kang could still be butthurt at Raiden. Sektor could still be trying to seize control of the Lin Kuei. And Cyrax could still be struggling with his "code of honor". I still think Quan Chi was the main one they're basing off though. Like Reptile's MKDA>Deception foreshadowing scenario.

If Shao Kahn returns as a secret weapon, I want him to be under the Elder God's control.

That would be cool now that I think about it. Shao Kahn under Shinnok or Quan Chi's control would be pretty dope,

Also: If Kung Lao's ending appears to be true in MK9, then this guy is waaaaay older then I could have imagined. Cool.

Nightwolf's spirit wolf became tainted with Shao Kahn's soul which = Lycan Nightwolf. So I highly doubt that one is canon, lol.

And Rain defeats Shao Kahn and gains control of his armies, and is praised by Raiden for it. But then Rain turns his attention to Earthrealm using Kahn's forces. Also probably not canon.

I too am wondering if Noob's ending was canon. I know Quan Chi is still in the picture, but maybe while he's on his quest with Shinnok to consume the other realms, they place Noob in charge of the Netherrealm. Then he could form the allegiance with Havik, and spring a surprise attack on Quan and Shinnok upon their return.

I hope Johnny's ending was canon so he matures and passes the comedic flame onto Cassie
