I know that Stryker is the most hated character from MK1-3 era.
But how do you guys think of him now in MK9?
Personaly, I think he's a badass.
But a bit too much of a badass. His partner got burned and yet he has no emotion about it. Doesn't he feel bad? Shouldn't he be kinda worried where Kabal is when he got back to the street.

What are your opinions on him.

Wouldn't you rather focus on a 4armed, giant, Firebreathing, bipedaled tiger, thing instead of worrying of your *Dan forden-TOASTY!* friend? lol

I think he's alright. He still looksl ike John Cena to me, but wte. lol

Dude's always been a badass, he just had an incredibly dopey mocap actor 15 years ago. As for the Kabal part, I'm sur ehe was concerned, they just didn't really spend time on it. It also didn't help that right after Kabal was burned, Stryker had to save his own ass from a Shokan and then a guy who telekinetically hurled him about hundred feet from the street down into the subway. And the "Punk" line in between rounds was awesome.
Stryker's a badass mofo. wink

Okay, obvious conditions from me aside, let's go ahead and say one of the reasons I like Stryker: Currently and since I've known him from MK3, I've been very....

http://myfacewhen.com/101/

...about Stryker. Yeah, I've been a fan of him since the beginning, and I had a crush on the fat, ugly guy everyone hates so much. The attraction as amplified by his new appearance, but that's not the reason he's both my favorite character from this game AND one of my favorite characters of all time.

What does looking like John Cena have to do with anyth~ nevermind.

No. I'm not going to care more about a four armed giant. I'm not going to like a character by appearance. Scorpion is one bad ass looking mother fucker, but when his entire existence from MK1-MKA was "I want revenge", even though MK2-4 and MKD-A, he had already won his revenge. Beyond that, I can't relate to him at all.

I am more than willing to say that 75% of the entire Mortal Kombat series looked cooler than Stryker did in MK3. I will say the 55% of the entire Mortal Kombat series looks cooler than Stryker does now.

But I don't deem my favorite character entirely on coolness factor. I like majority of the characters in this series, and I only HATE one character (Tanya, for being a backstabbing bitch) in this entire series, and I actually want her in the next game. But Stryker is my favorite because he's the one I can relate to the most! The same reason Reptile is my second favorite.

Stryker is in over his head. He fits in like a sore thumb, and chances are, he couldn't take Shao Kahn head on even if he tried. But he tries. He still attempts. He doesn't hesitate or question. He knows there is a fire, and regardless of the odds, he throws himself into the fire to save lives. That is a quality I WISH I could have.

At the same time, I see him as an unappreciated kindred spirit. He represents gratitude and modesty. I try to live being as thankful as I can to those who have helped me in the past, but when I help someone, I don't expect or want the same gratitude. I see this Stryker, and I feel like people should appreciate characters like Stryker.

That's why I'm a Stryker fan.

And if anyone thinks the issue is sexual attractiveness: I find Chris Redfield very attractive, and Resident Evil is one of my all time favorite series that I'm willing to EASILY say that I love more than Mortal Kombat. Chris Redfield isn't even close to being one of my favorite characters. I like Jill (second favorite RE char of all time), Wesker, Leon, Ada, Claire, Barry, BIlly, Rebecca, Steve, Alfred, Alexia, Ashley, Sheva, and the entire cast of Resident Evil Outbreak (Cindy being my all time favorite RE character) more than Chris.

Yep, that's another thing I like about Stryker, the guy was humble, modest, and doubted himself as a defender of Earthrealm despite hving taken out Reptile, Mileena, and even got dang Kintaro and freaking Ermac. I'd have been pissing and crapping myself if I was in his shoes at those moments. That's the kinda person you wanna admire, and aspire to be. And for that, Kurtis Stryker will always be one of my favorite Mortal Kombat characters. Dude's just so bad fucking ass. wink

personally i've never liked stryker o.o not to dampen the mood here or anything but i didnt like him then and dont like him now.
i dislike the use of guns as a form of "fighting" because no matter how hard i try it's just simply not possible for me to like anyone that does that. i prefer actual hand to hand or swords as a form of fighting...stuff that takes practice to get good with(yes, i realise using a gun properly takes practice but its nowhere near the same).
so as a character in a fighting game i have 0 respect or admiration for stryker, just as i always have, and just as i always shall.

He can use other weapons besides guns. Hell, I've been through a match without using his gun. Just punches, nightsticks, tazers, flashlights and grenades.

No, no, no... This simply will not do. If you're going to say it, say it right with emphasis and style!

It's gotta be BIG and it's gotta be LOUD

Not to mention, you need the word "man" at the end of it.

IT'S FUCKING STRYKER MAN!!!!

My catchphrase will not retire, but I am limited to how and when I need to say this. Only during the right time will this line come out... It's the greatest thing ever invented right next to cream cheese, and I hate cream cheese.

Consider the fact that Stryker was brought into the series NOT during a tournament, but during an invasion of Earthrealm. And still, he IS a part of the story when Earthrealm is invaded, and not during the tournament. At a time in which monsters like Reptile (love him though), Mileena, Eramc, Kintaro, Sheeva, and so many more are marching up and down the streets and killing thousands, the civility of not bringing a gun in a fist fight goes out the window. This isn't a matter of 'fairness in a tournament', this is survival.

Also take note that Stryker uses more than a gun. I have full belief that in combat (namely with Reptile since Reptile ate his gun), Stryker would use a wise combination of all of his weapons and abilities.

Also, compare this to characters like Ermac, Mileena, and Sindel. Ermac was created by Shang Tsung using a massive collection of souls, and had his powers from day one. Mileena was born as a complete clone of Kitana, mimicking her already existing fighting skills and being made deadly since her birth as a grown woman. Sindel was brought back to life, and given unlimited power by Quan Chi and Shao Kahn.

How is that fair? Mileena and Ermac are born with their powers and skills, while Sindel is given a massive amount of power in a matter of a day. Little training required. And I can tell you, their powers are more effective than a gun.

I see little point in your argument, as Stryker isn't bringing a gun to a fist fight. He's bringing a gun to a monster fight.

And to piggyback off of that, there hasn't been an ACTUAL Mortal Kombat tournament since-Well, Mortal Kombat 1. Maybe Mortal Kombat 2, but you get the idea. Now it's just invasion this, end of the world that.

Also, let's not forget the fact that Stryker is fighting against people who can:
a) Take a bullet....or twenty, and still walk like nothing is wrong.
b) BLOCK bullets.
c) DEFLECT BULLETS.

Right.

The gun is unfair. But the telekinesis, soul stealing, shape shifting, fire throwing, flying, super strength, acid spitting, super speed, magic blade saw throwing, ice manipulation, undead existence, shadow throwing, MISSLES, TIMED BOMBS, electric nets, FLAMETHROWERS, metallic arms, arm blades, undead puppets, teleportation, and god like powers are all totally fair.

In MK3, I was mostly indifferent about him. Didn't hate him, but he really didn't appeal either.

In MK9, however, I thought he was awesome. His entire story chapter was great and fun. I actually would've loved to have seen more of him and Kabal and how they reacted to the invasion. From the initial attack to right where we found them, seemly part of some small measure of a counter-attack.

a) That's fine, but don't hate him for looking like John Cena. There are a lot of people that do, and honestly, that's a dumber reason for hating him than hating him because he's a cop.

b) The writers didn't even bother put in Stryker's reaction to Kabal out of laziness. Sonya didn't react to Jax's arms. Hell, Jax magically got his arms out of nothing, no explanation given. Scorpion and younger Sub-Zero's rivalry was handled with bullshit intent. Kabal joins the team without Sonya or Jax questioning the fact that a former Black Dragon member is joining. Not to mention, Stryker never gets a chance to react to Kabal being a former terrorist.

Don't blame the writers lack of effort in character development on Stryker. It could have been easily added, and they didn't do a god damn thing.

c) Stryker looks nothing like Chris Redfield. Dress like him? Somewhat. But the black hair, distorted face, steroid abused muscles, and larger array of bizarre weapons are no where to be found on Stryker.
