Will there be new characters and backgrounds?

It's been said that the focus is MK1-MK3 era Mortal Kombat. The talk of new characters was sort of steered away from by Boon in interviews. We've only seen classic characters and backgrounds. Which makes me wonder are we going to see any new characters or backgrounds?

I'm happy to stick with the classic characters and backgrounds but it'd be nice to see at least a few new additions. I think a limit of two new characters and two new backgrounds would be perfect. Just enough so you get something new and the quality stays high. So you don't end up with Jarek, Hsu Hao, Darrius etc type characters that are horrible. The same could be said of the backgrounds.

They said there would be 18 backgrounds so I don't know if they'll all be old ones or not, to me there are a few I'd love to see before they make new ones like a new version of the sky palace, the graveyard (with rain added), kahn's throne room and the water front.

I think i heard in one of Boon's interviews that the majority of the arenas will be classic. Basically confirming that we'll have a few new arenas at least. I hope he wasn't fibbing lol. I would enjoy a couple newbies

In Kamidogu's interview with Steve Beran, it was confirmed that there will be new Arenas.
I'm expecting maybe a few new arenas, but I wouldn't hold my breath on getting any new characters, and honestly I am fine with that. We have more than enough already.

I like the idea of having a majority of classic arenas and some new ones but I hope the cast of characters are all classic because some of the newer ones they decided to make during the DA-A games just plain out sucked!!!
