new ideas for the Special Forces

The Special Forces was initially formed in the United States of America as the United States Special Forces with the goal of stopping international crime gangs, in particular the Red Dragon and Black Dragon clans. By the time of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the organization had become the Earthrealm Special Forces; while it was still an anti-crime organization, its mandate had expanded to defending all of Earthrealm against outerdimensional invasions, such as by the Tekunin.

Special forces members are:
*Sonya Blade
*Jax
*Cyrax
*Kenshi
*Stryker (revealed in MK9 Challenge Tower mission 233)

also:
*Gemini - MK Special Forces

Special Force members from the 90's MK Comic book series:
*Mikka Stone
*Sylence
*Torque
*Cody Finnigan
*Vapor
*Lt Lance

I hope the Special Forces is further explored/expanded in the new timeline and here are some of the ways I would like to see it evolve:

1.Sonya should assemble a team to go and rescue Jax, Stryker and the others who were left off as zombie like slaves to Quan Chi and also to avenge Earth after the invasion in MK9 story mode, Cyrax is now good and probably open to new offers of partnership so now is a good time for Sonya to recruit him, kenshi could also be bought in for this and announce the red dragon threat to Sonya and co, Shinnok and Quan Chi could learn of the Special Forces plans and send a gang of Netherrealm demons after them, who could invade them at the Special Forces base, and at the Special Forces base we should see cameos of other SF members that work at the base eg: some from the SF comic series could make some interesting cameos, not sure if Kano will continue to be leader of the Black Dragons as I think Kabal will kill Kano and take his place but there should be a big showdown between the SF and the Black Dragon clan in the next story mode.

2.Special Forces is the way forward for Stryker - using special force technology he should be given a new gun/device weapon that fires blue energy bolts which would look good and be his most powerful move in the game, I'd personally like to see him in a close partnership with Jax and Sonya but also he could get it on with Sylence or vapour. I see Stryker as a hero and it would be nice if he had someone to personally fight for.

3.The Special Forces arena is one of my favourite arenas from MK vs DC Universe so I really want to see that bought back as an arena again with possible cameos in the background of Vapor, Lance, Mikka, Torque and Sylence.

i feel like the special forces has gotta play somewhat of a big part in this next game in order to save the zombie heroes. earthrealm has no one to fight for them besides johnny cage, sonya, and raiden (as of the ending of mk9 storyline). so maybe they will introduce a couple new members of the special forces. it'd be cool for special forces to have more of an impact in a video game.

I hope they do bring back Stryker at the end of the game.

I've always "fantasized" of a third person shooter mixed with action adventure game that is a reboot of MK Special Forces that shows the development of the three-way rivalry (spec forces, black & red dragon clans).

Funny thing is I actually put together an excel spreadsheet with a lot of ideas, new costume designs that resemble the original comic drawings, etc.

If only NRS would explore such options...........

Earth realm certainly needs new recruits right now and we all know NRS will fill the gaps with Fujin, Kai, Bo'Rai Cho and Li mei, but I'd like to see the Special Forces get more involved as they should seeing how that's why they exist - to protect and defend earth, I'd like to see the Special Forces come together like the Avengers!

it really bugs me how they made such a sloppy mess of the Playstation 1 SF game with Jax, I know that any game weather it was Shaolin Monks or anything would have failed with how poorly that game was executed, it doesn't require much imagination to see what a badass game that would make if they did it with thought and todays advanced gameplay, I think it would work best as a good 2.5D scroll play game like in Shaolin Monks with 3rd person perspective action showdowns at the end of the levels, NRS needs to give the Special Forces more focus. Also blacksaibot I'd be really interested in seeing your spread sheet concepts/designs, do you still have them?

SPECIAL FORCES TEAM
Colonel David Georce - Commanding officer over Jax's Special Forces team.
Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs - Leader of the Special Forces squad responsible for tracking down the Black Dragon. Becomes Sonya's partner after 2LT Lance's death.
1st Lieutenant Sonya Blade - Lance's former partner who develops a personal grudge against the Black Dragon leader Kano. This inner termoil causes her to become a loose canon at times.
2nd Lieutenant Lance - Sonya's former partner who is murdered by Kano to send a message to Jax's squad.
1st Lieutenant Mikka Stone - Torque's partner equipped with two Katana swords.
Captain "Torque" - Mikka's partner. Lost his arms to Kabal's deadly hook swords and replaced them with prototype bionic arms.
Warrant Officer "Vapor" - Scientist in Jax's team. Has the ability to have projectiles slide between her molecules.
Sergeant First Class Cody Finnigan
Sergeant "Sylence" - Cody Finnigan's partner. One of the SF captives in Shang Tsung's Island.
Specialist "Gemini" - Communications officer for Jax's squad. Briefs members on intel brought by Hsu Hao and orders from COL George.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Hsu Hao - Intelligence Officer. Secretly a Red Dragon mole within the Special Forces. Chief Hao is aiding Sonya and Jax hunt down their mutual enemy, the Black Dragon.

NYPD SWAT
Sergeant Kurtis Stryker - Has jurisdictional run-ins with the Special Forces but negotiates for their aid when things get out of hand.
Sergeant Axel Stone - Stryker's partner (Alex Stone pays homage to the Streets of Rage character).

BLACK DRAGON CLAN
Kano - Leader of the Black Dragon clan.
Jarek - Jarek's second in command and protégé.
Rojak - One of Kano's right-hand men.
Tasia - Kano's top assassin armed with twin Wakizashis which can be connected to one another.
Tremor - Previous Lin Kuei ninja who left the clan to pursue a more rewarding life style.
No Face - Freed by Kano from Prison.
Kabal - One of the prisoners that Kano frees.
Quinn - Assisted Kano in freeing prisons.

Black Dragon Regulars
Thug - Unarmed (Boxing)

Character Redesigns






If I knew how to draw and I had more free time on my hands, I'd probably have a better presentation than the above designs... but if you use your imagination you can kinda see where I was going with this. I wanted a realistic look to the characters yet still have them resemble their original comic book designs.

Since my fan-fic takes place before the events of MK1, I did not include Kenshi or Cyrax.

I didn't work on redesigns for the Black Dragon nor did I get so far as to include the Red Dragon into the "fake game" I was envisioning. However I would reference MK Shaolin Monks and the Konquest game modes for them.

MISSION LIST
My mission designs are all very based on MK3's urban/city arenas. I thought it a little stupid how Kano goes into Outworld in the original MKSF game. Mission 1: The Bank - Special Forces operatives who were chasing Quinn managed to disable his vehicle. Quinn has baracaded himself inside of a bank with civilian hostages. NYPD is also on the scene.

Mission 1: BANK - Special Forces operatives who were chasing Quinn managed to disable his vehicle. Quinn has baracaded himself inside of a bank with civilian hostages. NYPD is also on the scene. Objective 1 - Enter the Bank undetected and free the hostages. Objective 2 - Quinn is hiding somewhere on the roof. Fight your way to him. Boss Battle - Defeat Quinn. Mission 2: SUBWAY - A bomb has went off in a subway station close by as a distraction. Investigate the situation. Objective 1 - Stop the Black Dragon from arming any more bombs. Objective 2 - Disarm the three hidden bombs Objective 3 - Stop the Black Dragon from escaping on the train. Boss Battle - Defeat Rojak. Mission 3: SEWERS - Tasia and other Black Dragon members escaped Jax's pursuit. She is heading into a sewer system that leads to one of the Black Dragon hide outs. Objectives - ??? Boss Battle - Defeat Tasia. Mission 4: WAREHOUSE - No-Face hiding out at a warehouse used by the Black Dragon to smuggle weapons around the world. Objectives - ??? Boss Battle - Defeat No-Face. Mission 5: WATERFRONT - Weapons managed to get loaded into containers a cargo ship which Jarek has hijacked. He is attempting to leave the harbor to sell them in an arms deal. Objective 1 - Get to the ship before it docks. Objective 2 - Find the containers with the weapons. Boss Battle - Defeat Jarek. Custcene - Jarek escapes. Mission 6: BRIDGE - A huge shoot-out has erupted on a high-traffic bridge. NYPD has set up defenses but need Special Foces assistance. Objectives - ??? Boss Battle - Defeat Tremor. Mission 7: FACTORY - Intel disocvered the location of a weapons manufacturing plant which is being secretly run by the Black Dragon in Hong Kong. Objectives - ??? Boss Battle - Defeat Kabal. Custcene - Kabal yields and confesses to being an informat for the NYPD. Mission 8: HEAD QUARTERS - Kabal has given up the location of the Black Dragon Head Quarters and Kano's location. Objectives - ??? Boss Battle - Defeat Kano.

wow loads to look through here, thanks for sharing, that's really got me in the mood for more special forces! you mapped out a good game here. :)

good to know someone else who appreciates the Special Force comic book characters, my favourites being: Cody Finnigan, Sylence and Vapor.

I liked your idea of Hsu Hao being a SF mole! lol that would actually make him a much more interesting character but it's probably best to play it safe and leave him out of the game, and Sonya's weakness for Kano's manipulation and it interfering with her missions and relationship with Jax would be a good side story, also think the player should have a choice of several SF members to play as from the start and maybe even have a bonus vs game as an extra mode.

I'm going to have to start tweeting @noobde for more Special Forces because it was one of many directions that they were going in and I think they're unfairly dismissing future potential based on the failed spin off game that was rushed and carelessly handled.

thanks again for sharing your concepts, it's given me inspiration to do some of my own concepts

That was already canonical, you know. That's a major part of his story in Deadly Alliance.
He's the one he blew up OIA after Mavado ordered him to, stranding Kenshi in Outworld, and making Jax super angry. Just FYI.

I'd definitely like to see a (good) side game involving SF.

ah yes, I remember Hsu Hao blowing up the OIA resulting in us seeing a super ticked off Jax! does anyone know why Hsu Hao has green skin?

I can't say canonically... but I have two guesses:
1. The MK Team attempted to go for a pale-skinned Asian look and failed.
2. Its due to the injuries he sustained which also resulted in his cybernetic implant (aka his "fake heart").

By the way, it's not actually green, though I have seen some poor quality images on Google which would implicate that he does.

BTW I am glad to see so many people are open to my ideas. I look forward to seeing others' ideas as well.


And I've actually done something similar for MKM:SZ, a project simply titled "Cryomancer" - originally designed to be created on Half-Life 2's game engine. Hasn't gotten very far over the years due to school, work, and family. This is the only level I was able to design:







It was going to include co-op (two player) and the second being player being Tundra. I have a shit load of documents on that too, but I'm not trying to hi-jack this thread... maybe I'll share all of that in another thread but I am very protective over my ideas. I spent 100x more effort on my MKMSZ re-envisioning than I did the MKSF one...
