I noticed a person on the map that looked awfully familiar...

I wouldn't say him getting a vague drawing is him being shown love. I mean, this guy is supposed to be one of the most skilled and dangerous beings of earth and Outworld and look how poorly he was treated in the story of MKX.
Then again who wasn't robbed of their dignity at some point during the story....looks over at Quan Chi....why Vogel...

They easily could've glossed over him and just put some non-distinct figure in there (or a Trilogy character for that matter). The fact they went to Bo' of all people is a little respect and love in my eyes considering how NRS and their counterparts love to gloss over those characters and pretend they don't exist most the time.
As for how he was treated in the story, I'd say I have no complaints as to how he got beaten. That's what should happen when you take on a Fallen Elder God.... you get your ass kicked. Not like the Cassie fight. I don't have issue with her winning, it's HOW she won. She should've gotten her ass kicked to high heaven and won at the very last second out of desperation. The way it was handled in-game was poor.

Yeah I agree. I just don't like how he was basically the only person that fell victim to Shinnok. However, I'm still eternally grateful he was even there in the first place. Getting retconned into MK4 when you're a 3D era character is quite noticeable. The fanboy in me wants to believe it's a sign of greater things to come. It was his introduction back into the franchise so they can finally put him to decent use in future games.

Man I can't even remember how they handled Cassie winning. My brain checked out after Scorpion went full retard (yet again) and they made Quan Chi into a total joke and then had Kotal Khan who is supposed to be Mr. Super Rational Diplomat join Scorp by putting his pants on his head too.
Either way I still have no problem with Cassie being the one to save the day. Though i agree it would be better if they had gone your way.

She takes two punches and falls to the floor, Shinnok taunts her while torturing Johnny and thus activates her moody green magic aura stuff.
That's. Literally. It.
So lame.

Of course he did. But how it happened was completely unfitting and character breaking.
You want to show us Quan Chi finally getting what's coming to him fine. But you do it in a way that makes sense to the character. Have him finally be out smarted; hoisted by his own petard..
Like what happened to him in MK4. He thought victory was at hand, let his hubris get the best of him and revealed to Scorpion that he had been using him and that he was the one who murdered his clan and loved ones as he was intending on sealing Scorpion away in the Netherrealm. What he didn't plan on was Scorpion having time to take him with him and from that point on he was relentlessly hunted and tortured by Scorpion.
That's! How you have Quan Chi get what's coming to him.
You don't make him a completely different person who completely contradicts the character he is and make up some BS like he is tired and that he would constantly see hand to hand combat as his first resort to doing away with his foes.

No.
NRS had the greatest video games villain of all times. Somehow, they decided to lose that

I had no beef with Quan until MK9. What really got my goat was taking away pivotal plot points that belonged to Shang and gave them to him when he really wasn't even supposed to be there.

Plz look at the wiki stuff. It says for the original timeline that Shang restored Sindel with the help of shadow priests who were sent by Quan Chi and Shinnok. Quan Chi was always behind Sindel's ressurection.

In MK4, he just popped in the middle of Scorpion and Subby's fight and said "I did it. LOL bye."
It was not impressive at all. MKX had some stupid moments, like the stuff between Chi and Jax, but MK4 didn't really do any character justice imo.

He showed up because in that ending Scorpion defeated Sub-Zero a powerful enemy of Quan Chi's that's why he just sauntred in and confidently confessed to Scorpion. Because he thought he had won. But Scorpion rushing him somehow was unexpected.
Stupid in some ways but a hell of a lot more fitting than having him make sooo many stupid mistakes in MKX that a master calculative manipulator like him would never make. And then having him for some reason be a withered old sorcerer by the end was just the ultimate insult...why would Quan Chi age as they were implying? He is a demon in a realm of the afterlife...he is eternal!

How about you read the bios and tell me where anywhere it says the Shadow Priests were lent out by Quan Chi and Shinnok. Shang Tsung created the shadow priests and was the leader of them. No Quan Chi was not always there from the start.

A master calculative manipulator would admit his deception standing in front of the guy he deceived because that guy just beat up his sworn enemy. He didn't do it after Sub-Zero was dead or while Scorpion couldn't attack him or not actually do it. Why not keep Scorpion around as a minion instead of gloating about his master plan completely in front of the guys he deceived unrestrained? He was super weak in MKX, but he was super dumb in MK4. Becoming weaker and relying on others after the defeat of his master is more interesting than suddenly becoming a Bond villain.

Okay you got me there. Here's the thing though. We are making the best from BAD WRITTING! No a better written Quan Chi wouldn't have done things that way in MK 4. He would have immobilized Scorpion in some way and then admitted to his deception when Scorpion could not retaliate.
But allas this is what happens when you have guys who have no business writing....writing.
The scene might have been stupid(like every cinematic in MK4), but is still leagues ahead of what Quan Chi has been turned into now.
