It is pretty clear that the MK people want to reduce the number of ninjas... since people are compliining about too many aplette swaps.. (male AND famale)
well... so far they changed reptille into a more feral creature, joined Noob and Smoke since they where both basic ninjas, gave Sub an armor, jade an amazonian look, Mileena a more arabic style...

Now.. they tried t change ermac but they decided to leave him untouched...
other characters still remaining "ninjas" arer Kitana, Rain and Scorpion AND if u want to count her, Khameleon....

Now, my theorie is that if and when Rain comes back they will completely get rid of the ninja influence, and he will end up having a brand new look... however they would probably keep the pink as his main color... just to keep him tied to his old self...
and he will be the most changed...
they may give kitana a more princess-like outfit like her purple one in DA... but I think she will remain mostly as THE female ninja...

Scorpion is pretty much THE ninja... and they probably don't want to change him...

Ermac I think will drift more and more from a ninja and more into a monk-like character like they inteded for MKD... only done better...

Now... characters like Reiko and Tanya who at one point where kind of rip-offs from ninjas will just drop the entire look like Tanya did in MKD... maybe having hints of their older looks in ther alternates...

Damn right Ermac will. grin

And you've got that right about Scorpion, all his costumes since MK1 have been based on that.

But personally, I like all the ninja revamps. They were always my favorite part of UMK3, and they look far better in MK:DA and MK:D

Im sorry but I think I'm gonna have to disagree with you on reducing the amount of ninjas. IMHO I believe that to a point there actually can be too many ninjas but 7 or 8 to me is not bad, especially when 1/2 of everyone's favorite character is a ninja.

Also, the pallate swap ninjas from the old MK games have new and revamped looks now. When I look at how one of most contraversal pallate swaps, Ermac, has been revamped in MKD, I know that they could do the same with Rain one of my favorites.

Can't you see that they all have their own unique looks now!? They're amazing! glasses

No no no! don't get me wrong! I do not want the nuber of ninjas reduced! I just say that's the direction Midway seems to be taking!

And I agree!!! I LOVE the revamped ninjan looks... especially Ermac's and Kitana's... but again, I think midway is trying to drift from the pallet swap ninjas

Monk look? I don't ever recall seeing concepts of a monk look for Ermac...confused Can you show me some pics of that?

It wouldn't make sense for Ermac to be that kind of character. The costumes he has in MKD are perfect as they are, imo and he should keep those as well as have some new looks. However, I feel that a monk look should not be one of them.

Reiko, I see as a ninja type character, but Tanya, never. She never really had any of that ninja look or feel to her. Going back to Reiko, he should keep the unmasked ninja look but look more general-like as well.

I wouldn't want Kitana to be a ninja-type character. In fact, I feel that they should steer away from that with her, Mileena, and Jade.

With Kitana, she should have a warrior princess look and have battle armor. The armor itself shouldn't be big, heavy armor, but light armor with a nice royal blue color to it. With this kind of look, she can steer clear of that whole bathing look suit.

When it comes to Mileena, I like the whole Arabic feel to her primary MKD costume with the veil. She should have something slutty as well, but her alternate costume (though I'm not really complaining that much), is a bit too much.

I like the direction they are going with the amazon look for Jade. They should definitely go with that though maybe a couple of ninja elements like the mask should stay, at least for one of her costumes.

Khameleon should have a completely revamped look and should ditch the ninja look altogether. I wouldn't want her to look reptilian though...>_<

About Rain, his costume was only pink in the N64 version of MK Trilogy. Why they did that is a mystery to me. Rain really has a purple ninja costume. I think for one costume, he should have an Edenian knight costume. His other costume should be a ninja type costume with a demon mask and armored sleeves just like the ninjas who use Kumogakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu. I would like to see him use that style along with the Kamayari, a weapon used in Kumogakure Ryu.

Scorpion should be the most ninja-like out of all of the characters. I'm really surprised he hasn't used a style of Ninpo Taijutsu. Anyway, I like his primary costume look in MKD. I think the less yellow they have, the better as long as they don't take out too much yellow from the costume. It would've been cool if he had that Monster costume like he was originally planned to have.

Reptile should have certain ninja elements but also have reptilian elements, namely like his MkSM look. One thing I would like to see is the type of mask he had in the first MK movie.

Noob Saibot should stick with the all-black look. It fits him nicely as it is as long as good details in the costume can be seen. In one costume, he should have that one costume look from one of the MKD concept drawings. I'm referring to the one that has 3 different drawings of him on it. The one in that concept that I'm referring to is the one on the right. He should have that look but with the leg pads from the concept on the left because of the cool eclipse design.

In addition, I'd actually like to see a Darth Vader type helment instead of a regular ninja hood for him. The reason why I say this is because to me, Noob is like the Darth Vader of MK and since he seems to be stepping up with the ruler of the Netherrealm thing, I think it would be fitting for him to have something like that. For another look of his, I'd like to see the Grim Reaper look he had in MK4 along with the Scythe. I was thinking that maybe he can have his primary MKD look but blue and with the MK2 style ninja vest to go for that Classic Sub-Zero look.

I love both of Smoke's costumes in MKD, especially the alternate costume. he should stick with looks like that.

Sub-Zero's ancestral armor look is perfect but I would like to see the Dragon Medallion on it somewhere. His alternate costume looks good too, but I would like to see a short, thin ponytail with his MKDA hairstyle. I don't think he should have pale skin either. The icy eyes look from his MKDA alt costume is something that I think he should have for his armor costume. I don't think he may even need the mask for his alt costume.

I don't understand why some people would still be complaining about pallete swaps since they haven't been doing that. Are you sure about all of this? One last thing...I think the amount of ninjas is fine and I don't think it's necessary to add or remove any.

The "Monk" look is what I call the look of the Ermac sketches where they show his face... It kind of reminds me of a Japanese monk... where he had the beads arround his neck and the flowing red robe...

I like ur idea for Rain... sounds really original for the MK universe

I actually agree with you... but from different bits and pieces of info it does seem like midway are trying to reduce the amount of characters with the ninja look... because people (not fans) always poke fun of the amont of pallet swaps and ninjas (What I don't understand is why I never see people showing how ther are like 5000 Ryu-like characters in street fighter... or all the recycled characters in King of Fighters)

I agree with a lot of what Sub-Zero7th said. It's good to see you around here, buddy.

From a lot of chats I've had, I know a good number of people do not class certain characters as ninjas, even though they had the ninja palette swap outfits. One of these characters is Reptile. Even if they dress like ninjas, it doesn't make them true ninjas. Sub-Zero is the perfect example of this. He is not a ninja. By this logic and where he comes from, Smoke, Cyrax and Sektor are probably not real ninjas either.

That being said, the palette swap characters needed to have costume changes and they did a great job with that in MKDA and MKD. Those that are in the games have regained individuality and are so much better for it. I used to hate Noob Saibot and Ermac, but I like them now in MKD. Both look great. I love Reptiles reptilian looks. I prefer it, though I know many hate it.

I agree that Sub-Zero needs the dragon Medallion in his outfit. I love his MKD costume with the armour. It gives him the feel of a true grandmaster and further development of this costume along with what he learns from his heritage should result in something kickass. The ponytail in his alt i didn't like at first, but I do now. It alt gives him the definitive Sifu look, so both his costumes are appropriate for him and explain his character well.

Scorpion will remain much the same as he is the one true ninja of the series. He'll have the occasionally revamp here and there, but he needs to look more ninja like with each costume.

Rain I believe will stray away from the nija look as you said Kamionero. His MKT ending sees him finding out that he's Edenian and I think he'll dress accordingly. Sub-Zero7th's knight costume idea is excellent.

Noob Saibot can remain as he is. the pure black look for him works, though some details should be visible on it imo.

Ermac looks amazing as he is. I don't like this monk idea, but I think he does need to look wise in a way. His glowing eyes make him look awesome. I'd also like to see some looser cothing on him that could move in the wind, so it gives off a telekinetic like feel to his outfit. It could show that his mind is always in control or something.

Reptile should develop more as a reptile, or he should be a mix of reptilian and ninja attire. Both as costumes for him would look amazing as long as they make the reptilian body and face of his look good.

Sektor needs to look nothing like Smoke and Cyrax. With his clan behind him, he needs to be totally revamped and have a new look about that says 'badass'. This is one such look. He is a killing machine now and his look needs to emphasise that to the fullest.

Smoke's alt in MKD is perfect for him, but his costume and how he should look is based on story and depending on how it goes, it'll influence his outfit. I would prefer they keep his alt in MKD as the basis for his look as the smoke body was just amazing.

Cyrax needs some tweaking too, but I'm not sure how he should be. He needs a new design away from the one he has though. His MKDA story could have set up for a possible upgrade to his look anyway.

For Kitana, I've wanted her to have a princess and ninja assassin mix for a costume. It'd be a cross between what she currently wears with some that Taki from Soul Calibur wears. Kitana can use the veil or not, either way it suits her. Light armour could work, but nothing too dramatic as she still needs to be elegant and speedy.

Jades look in MKD was amazing. I hope they continue the Amazon style costumes with her and mix it up with the assassin type attire also. Her alt was just so amazing!

As for Mileena, she's fine as she is. The Persian outfit she had as her main costume is the one I always use. She looks incredible and it suits her perfectly. More costumes of this style would be great for her. Thoguh maybe she will eventually have an outfit without the mask, so we can see her face fully for the first time. I think it would be cool if that happened.

With all of this and more, each of these characters is different. The time of the palette swap is effectively gone.

Ah yes, I remember that Sektor pic Pat did. It looks very good and that would be cool to see. I would also like to see the look Sektor had in that one MKD concept art, the one that supposedly gives him a "manga" feel. To me, he should really be like Brainiac from Superman in which he kind of uploads his essence onto his cyborgs.

When it comes to Cyrax, I liked his MKDA costume. I don't really see the need for a change in it. His alternate costume kind of reminds me of Robocop. I don't really like him having so much yellow on for his alternate costume. If they plan to show more of a human side to Cyrax with his alt. costume, they need to do something better with it. I'm not really sure what....just at least have less yellow..
