It is implied, but not explicitally explained, that Outworld has had different lands and every and each of them has had their own species.
Some species were able to live peacefully next to the other, others barely stand each other, the shokan became enemies of the centaurs.


The Tarkatas are born from the demons of hell and the original outworld inhabitants, which were nomads.

The shokan could be pretty much the same: somehow a human being from Outworld was able to fuse or copulate with a Dragon and the whole Shokan Draco race was born.

The Tigrar might be the spawn of Taigores and Human/Dragons, that's why they are less "noble" than the aristocrats Dracos.

Since it would seem we (The fans) put more thought into this stuff than NRS does nowadays, im going to go with the most simple answer and assume it was just a matter of human(s) ending up having offspring with some type of Outworld dragon race and bam, you have Shokans.

The way I rationalized the Half dragon half human thing is that the Dragon race that the Shokan stem from are the race that Onaga belongs too. Not actual giant snake like reptilian creatures.

As for humans, well, Outworld is full of those so some of Onaga's people got freaky one time and bam the Shokan happened.

The Shokan being "half human, half dragon" was probably retconned. If not, I imagine that at some point during the forging of the realms, the gods were feeling creative and experimented by creating out of humans and dragons. Their creation is probably more mystical than sexual.
Dragon King is not Shokan or half-human. The Dragon King is simply the Dragon King, likely a unique being (given his god-like power, I would assume a demonic or demi-god entity). A dragon god in anthropomorphic humanoid form. Much like Shao Kahn, whose race appears to be unique.

Yeeeah, but that's just kinda lame. I think it adds a bite more richness to the lore if it did turn out that the race which Onaga belonged too were the ancestors of the Shokan. *shrugs* be we all know this stuff will never be acknowledged or answered so whatever right?

I think it should be seen as how he is described by people who have never heard of Shokan before. The Shokan aren't really human-dragon hybrids.

It goes something like this:
Human 1: What's that?
Human 2: It looks like... some... half human, ... half dragon... thing...
Human 1: We're doomed!

I once had it pointed out to me that in Harry Potter... Hagrid's father was human, and his mother a giant. Which I knew before that point, but I never really THOUGHT about... which was the point being made.

Hagrid's dad isn't just described as human, but as a tiny little guy that Hagrid could pick up and put on a shelf as a boy (albeit a large boy)...

Wheras pure-blood Giants, in-universe for Harry Potter, are described as gargantuan, ill-tempered, ugly, brutish and dumb... for the most part. We read about several in the books, In the movies we even see Hagrid's pure-blood brother Grawp, and a few nameless ones working for Voldemort in the final movie. They're none too pretty.

And Hagrid's tiny little dad is supposed to have copulated with one of their females somehow?

To paraphrase Austin Powers: "How could you do it!? No I mean LITERALLY, how could you do it? The sheer mechanics of it are mind-boggling."

Suffice it to say, sometimes creators just think up things that sound cool in the early chapters "He's half-dragon!" "He's half-giant!" ... but then when you start examining the complexities of the backstory in the later chapters it turns a bit well... stupid. And odd. And gross.

Personally I like the idea mentioned earlier that Onaga's race got it on with some humans. Why that would result in a yellow-brown four-armed race with a fondness for top-knots I have no idea... but it makes more sense than most of the alternatives.

Boon & Tobias probably just thought it made him cool. A dragon has always been a mascot for MK, but (apart from maybe Taven and Daegon's dragons) they never have been important to the series. Onaga is the Dragon King as a design choice. Lui turns into a dragon in a fatality to reference the logo. Before Armageddon the Black & Red Dragon were just cool sounding names. Goro is half dragon to make him sound more badass.

Maybe ancient Dragons could take on a Human form, and mate with Humans.
In various mythologies, there are all kinds of Human hybrid freaks.
Maybe magical genetic spliced hybrids, created like the Tarkata(Half Oni Half Outworld Human)?
In MKA's Konquest, the Red Dragon created Dragon/Human hybrids that looked more like Zaterrans.

Reptile being Onaga's host was a fluke, who knows where/what the egg's energies would've manifested as if Nitara hadn't led Reptile there.

Also, Kintaro being a Tigrar type, going by the 4 Heavenly Kings/Directional Guardians, could there be Turtle, and Phoenix type Shokan also?

My question is why 4 arms, instead of wings or more Reptilian features?
