How would you add hype to MKX fights?

I've been watching some MKX fights recently and I've noticed that the fights themselves aren't very exciting. There's not a lot going on visually or in terms of sound. I know MKX went with a more realistic approach but I wouldn't mind a little flash or excitement. Here's some little ways I think they could add a little hype to matches.
1. Give the announcer more presence in fights.
The announcer plays very little role in MKX. He's practically not even there during the fights except for saying the rounds, Finish Him/Her, and the finishing move. What ever happened to "Outstanding", "Superb", and Well Done"? Have the announcer say that stuff after a meaty combo or a whiff punish. And bring the laughter back too.
2. Put more emphasis on EX moves.
One thing I love about KI is how they handle Shadow Moves (EX moves). When a character does a Shadow Move the game slows down and zooms in on the character while they get ready to do their move. It looks great and really doesn't stop the pace of the fight. I think it would be cool if MK did something like that. Not the exact same thing but something similar. They could do what they did in the announce trailer where Sub-Zero did an EX ice ball and the screen darkened. That alone would be great. Anything would be better than a generic white flash..
3. Highlight the attack impacts and knockdowns.
Whenever someone gets hit it doesn't look as painful as it should to me. Most likely because there's hardly any impact from the attack. Tekken recently added spark effects after certain hits land to give the game more visual appeal. Which looks great in my opinion. MKX has blood but after awhile you forget it's even there. I wouldn't mind if they did what MK4 did and have one huge blood splat during the first hit of a combo. It makes it look a little more brutal. Oh and make knockdowns more important. There should be a loud thud or boom if someone hits the ground.
4. Get better music.
This one is probably the one that gets complained about the most. The music in MK has been lacking for a while now. One of my favorite tracks from MK came from Deception and it was the Hell's Foundry/Dark Prison theme. It was loud, banging, and it was pretty intense. I'm not saying all the music needs to sound that way but they gotta make the music more exciting. The whole point of fight music is to get people hype, not put them to sleep.
What about you guys? Think MKX could use a little flash? What are some ways in which you'd make the fights a little more exciting?

Yeah I think a lot of this stuff would add some more excitement to the game.
The announcer saying random stuff throughout like back in the day would be great, especially the laugh. Oh what i would give for them to bring Steve Ritchie back as the announcer, but I understand why he likely wont be back.
The extra emphasis on the Xrays would be cool too, maybe have a signature sound on activation, some different lighting effects at the start and during too. I do wish they would shorten some of them a bit though, I think Sub-Zero's Xray is perfect in terms of length. While during Liu Kang's I can check my phone, respond to a txt, and place it back in my pocket before its even over lol.
And of course the music. MKX's music just doesn't compare to Forden's old work on the first 3 games, the music on those games were so damn perfect. Ill put it this way, if they released a "retro music" dlc which enabled a mode where we could replace all the new music with classic tracks from those old games, I would not hesitate to throw my money at them lol

This would be a complex issue to solve, but a lot of the fights I see in KotH and a few streams all seem to be a rush to corner the opponent.
I personally don't find the realistic style choice to be boring, but rather the predictability.

Good topic and great points. wasnt expecting a topic like this on MKO.
- Music-
Make it louder and better. The SFX are really loud in comparisson to the back ground music. Also their old music was original and is still better than their new music. said by 99% of the fans
- Announcer-
Quotes while fighting, superb, Outstanding, whaha etc.
- Color-
MK9 did an impressive work when it came to colors and backgrounds.
- X rays-
Make them faster and less damaging. Most X rays are too much, almost a mid fatality.
- Art design-
This is opinion based. but i feel that the art that was represented in MK9 was much better than in MKX.
Pherhaps it also has to do with MKX feeling more like injustice as i saw the same problems with that game. it died really fast and i dont see MKX living longer than INJ.

I forgot one important issue.
All you need to interupt someone's pressure is using EX moves. It gets boring and predictable if all they do is EX true pressure. This problem had MK9 aswell. If your character lacked EX move that has good armor, it was really hard to stop pressure. KL vs JC for example. I know they can down 1, but than again its very risky as their recovery on pokes is quite long.
The game should give the players more options to get out of pressure. and not just rely on EX moves.

Most characters can get out of pressure by jumping, backdashing, or poking even when they are using meter. Hell, even using an interactable can sometimes work. EX moves aren't the only thing that you can do to get out of pressure
I agree 100% with the OP though. Very solid points, and as someone else pointed out in this thread, I would really love to have Steve Ritchie back, he is the definitive MK announcer imo and it would bring back so much nostalgia if he did it for another game.
I also really hope they drop the super realistic approach, I don't mind it but the game just looks so dull all the time. If they kept the realistic approach but added some better music and more colorful stages I would be completely okay with that, but the way it is right now just doesn't really feel like MK to me.

Some great points but ultimately it could just be an issue that any measures they do to make it interesting become dull after several hundred fights.
My advice: get 3 buddies, blindfold two of the four people, pair up one person blindfolded one not. The blindfolded people have to play and their partner has to tell them what to do. Screaming over each other and spamming projectiles in the wrong direction makes things plenty exciting. Bonus: Use blind random characters.

All these ideas are really great, but oh GOD yes it needs better music!

Hell`s Foundry, Dark Prison theme, Slaughterhouse Jive, and Hell were some of my fav tracks from the recent games.
Love Tiles of Death & Whimsy.
I`m thinking of 4`s Temple or Elder God`s theme, I think, the one with the yell, scream every now n then. Denn denn, oooaaaa or whetever.

The only thing I can agree on this list.
Everything else...
I never played Killer Instinct, so I can't agree or disagree about interrupting the flow of combat just for the camera man to be flashy on characters.
I had unsettling feelings when X-Ray's were introduced, how they look like they break the flow of combat, which in the end, they didn't. But anyway, I never played K.I. But judging of the description, it sounds like it does, and rather it not look like Street Fighter IV, I see a character amping up to do a super "Oh look, counter!". I piss my friend's off so much every time they use their Super, because I always counter their Super with my mind because it gives me sooo much free time to do so by panning the camera to their character and treating them like a special snowflake for a few seconds.
Tekken sparks, I always hated that shit. A big, NO. What is this? Power Rangers?
I still haven't paid attention to the music of this game, it's just too low and can never be assed to change it. lol

Here watch this fight I recorded in KI a while ago. The Shadow Moves are quick but still look good.
As for Tekken, I'm not saying we need the sparks. That was just an example. Hell look at the way KI does blood too. I wouldn't mind if MK handled blood the way KI does either. Rather than just turn the floor into a slip and slide like in MK, KI's blood is way more noticeable in comparison when hits land.

Add a Weapon Kombat mode or have the music change for the 3rd Round and call it Sudden Death where a Stage Weapon drops in the sway the battle!!!

One thing that I like about the new Killer Instinct is that both the level and the music change with the action as a match goes on.
A combo of 15+ hits gets you what I suppose one could call the "chorus" of the composition, while the music builds and destruction reigns down to one large crescendo as the match nears its conclusion.
Now, some might feel that the level stuff can be distracting, but I'm not one of those people. I see the levels on MKX and they tend to feel rather static to me. I know there's stuff going on here and there, but it's all so passive and separate.
Also, MK needs to drop the understated music and go for something that not only gets your blood pumping, but has a memorable hook to it so you hear it and immediately associate that song with a particular character or level.
I'm not saying that every level has to have speed metal or loud untz untz techno to get your blood pumping either. Far from it. There are a wide variety of influences that could be tapped and merged with other ideas to form some cool, unique tracks.
MK1 on the Genesis had a cool intro song that had a beat behind what sounded like an eastern inspired woodwind instrument and it's one of my all time favorites. I hear it and it just "sounds" like MK to me. So yeah, influences are everywhere.
Better music quality that ebbs and flows with the action and helps bring home the end of the round as well as the end of the match would be nice. Perhaps it could evolve throughout the match and change when one side's winning or losing, a good/bad guy is winning or losing etc.
As far as X-Rays go, I say get rid of them. They're too long, too repetitive, and too powerful. To me, they're a momentum stopper in terms of watching a match and enjoying it. After two games, I'd say it's time to find a new mechanic anyways.

I agree, but only partly. The one thing that I think MK would benefit more from is a more prominent OST. Right now in MKX, like all other MKs before it, the OST is simple ambiance...atmosphere. The music was never meant to come to the for front, but honestly I think it should. Games like Killer Instinct benefit greatly from a great sound track, and honestly it is one of the best parts of the game.
But overall the best thing that could happen to make fights more interesting in MK is to make the fights less scrubby. Seeing people jump all around, or just making "seemingly" dumb mistakes makes the game less interesting to watch IMO.
Right now the game is hella easy to play (play being used in the most loose sense), but at the same time the gap between casual and high-level is incredibly distant. It is WAY harder to play this game at high level and succeed just because of how strict thing are. To anti-air someone you have to be "pixel perfect" in many cases, and as such, watching a fight between 2 casual level players is just boring in most instances.
I really enjoy watching 2 high level fighters go at it in MKX.

after playing KI on X1 I can definitely say that MKX can learn a lot from that game. The music in KI is phenomenal, its up beat and very unique from stage to stage, i've never enjoyed the music in a fighting game more than KI. MKX music is really boring and half the time I barely even notice it
I also LOVE the idea about the announcer commenting during battles, i've been wanting that back in MK since the very first game they stopped doing it, which I believe was MK4. This is also something KI does very well, the announcer is very present during the fights, and they have the option of switching between 3 or 4 different announcers
also agreed about emphasis on EX moves, KI knocks this out of the park, the attention to details in that game is incredible (I actually got KI after I got MKX, and since I got KI I havent played much MKX...its just not as fun...this topic is making me want to play KI right now lol) but yeah, MK really needs to spice things up, the music and visuals and overall fight excitement is very drab compared to other fighting games, its hard to play MKX for too long without getting bored

KI is the guitar hero of fighting games. Hella not fun to play, imo.
That said, it really, really did a fantastic job aesthetically. And as much as I came in here to whine about the op, I do agree with every point he made as well as many other points in this thread. I really like the realism of MK, I prefer it over the cartoonish SF and KI (although they are cool too), but MKX does kinda lack that 'oomf' or like visceral feeling when landing hits. Like it was more satisfying in injustice to land a combo than it is in MKX. Grundy's slam chain was sick, the whole screen shook with every slam.
I think MKX really went overboard in the silly, squishing fruit sound effect area. I remember when one of the podcasts interviewed the sound engineers and they were like "lolz all this gruesome violence is made by crushing FRUIT" and it was like no shit guys, thats what it fucking sounds like. It sounds retarded. The cage crushing juicy tomato nuts sound, the reptile grab tongue flute, the list goes on and on. It was almost funny the first time but that shit got old insanely fast.
