Besides good gameplay,I want to see the dark and mysterious feel from MK2 back in MK7.The things that made MK2 dark were:

The Levels-All of the levels had an cloudy look to them.Take a look at Shao Kahn's Arena,The Dead Pool,The Armory.

Music and Sound:To me,music and sound play a BIG part in a game.I want to hear very painful screams.Screams that'll make me cringe and feel a hard hit in my stomach. The music sets the tone for the game.Church Organs,Violins,Guitars,Pianos, are all great for that kind of music.

Gore=The last 6 MK games have been missing that gore factor MK2 had.I want to see the blood look and flow like real blood. There shouldn't be "popcorn" or "Butchered Steak" looking organs.I want to see spinal chords, lungs, hearts in detail. If fake pic makers can do it then the MK team can do it.

What do you think?

Exactly what i thought Deception was gonan be, full of secrets like MK2, with the return of the pit and the deadpool, 2 fatalities for everyone, i was even hoping for the odd third fatality like some in Mk2, i guess we did get NEW boss' for the game, but Noob Smoke shouldnt be just a sub boss, Kintaro should have been the sub boss, the Dragon King Was new so that was Ok kinda like Shao Kahn.
Now Midway and company put alot of shit in this game that put them in the shit boat yet again, so this time Eddy, i hope you listen to these comments cause you may be the fighting series ever, but laziness and incompitence from your staff is really waring down peoples patience for things that could have been.

I don't define MK as a whole as being a dark mysterious game. All MK games have a different feel to them, but managed to maintain the grim events. Have been since MK1.Each MK game has a set up of story, which defines the game itself. Example: MK1 asian type vipe to the game. Of course most of the settings looked like they came out of a mashal arts movie. MK2 of course had a outworldly feel too it , mainlt because it was in a Outworldly place. MK3 had a post apocalyptic, which of course matched the whole storyline.

What I am try to say is look MK7 define itself. MK7 having a "feeling" of a past MK would make the game less appealing from a sequel stand point. MK7 storyline and characters should define the overall feel of the game what ever it maybe. One of the reasons why I didn't like Deception is because it took so much and gave so little from past MK. For me Deception didn't define itself like the reason of the series did mainly because so much was brought back, and almost nothing had changed. I am hoping that the MK team brings MK to a new level in all aspects story, fighting, and character devlopment. The satisfaction for me at least of playing of MK of its sequels is know that I am going to play and see something I had never see or done before. I have good faith in the MK team that they will do just that with MK7.

All MK games are dark in some form or another,i guess you just like an extremely dark feel to the game, thats cool,i though Deception was dark in the sence of dath traps, that was awesome when i first saw that,i was astonished, hopefully the fatalities will be more graphic in mk7 along with ripped clothing and more bruising etc.MK is the darkest fighter ever,so i really don't have a problem with the darkness theme, its always dark to me,so its great.grin
The music alone is dark and almost creepy, but not quite.I know what you mean though,MK2 and 3 were very dark games indeed!!!!!!!!gringrinBut Deception wasn't exactly a light game either.grin

I never realy found any of the MK games dark. and as for the gamplay MK3 ultimate/triligoies had the best. I don't know why so many people liked MK2 the best. The only thing it had over MK3 was that more people had better fatalities. The gameplay was a real improvement with the addition of combos and the increased speed of the game.

I think MK6 was not bad with the dark feeling but it missed realistic human pieces. Also, The Forest Stage should have had a stage fatality. In addition, I wanted the music of the Spikes Stage in MK2 or the stage itself.

I think the screams are pretty good in MK6 and the blood too.

I think that MK:D was plenty dark if you're talking about atmosphere. Most MK fans cried foul when MK:DA came out and lacked that dark, kinda gothic but asian feel, and I think the MK team responded well in MK:D.

While I was certainly one of those people that wanted the dark look to return, I'd almost prefer the Enter the Dragon/Asian/Martial Arts tournament feel that the first game (and to a lesser extent MK:DA) had. I think that MK:D had some of the best arenas in any game since MK2. But that's just my opinion.

As for gore factor, I couldn't agree with you more. MK used to be the most shocking game in existence. But it's just gone way over the top. MK3 had the eighty rib cages, and now we have the popcorn in the 3D games. The blood doesn't look real, and for some reason it explodes from people when they get punched once in the face. I'd like to see realistic damage as far as blood goes, and truly sinister fatalities that give you sinking feeling in your stomach instead of a creepy case of the giggles. It's tough to talk about this and not sound like a freak, but honestly, MK is being out grossed by several games out there, and out shocked by several other games as well. It's time for MK to reclaim its throne, and if it takes a close up shot of a begging Cage getting scorpions spear shoved into his head from chin to brain, complete with one eyeball getting chopped in half and oozing out of his face, then so be it. I haven't been shocked by an MK game since I was 14 and Jax ripped off Kung Lao's arms (now THOSE were some agonizing screams!)

A good thing would be when the Midway team would turn it's attention to the arena design of MKDA. Yes, it wasn't obvious at first blink but think about it: the most menacing things remain unseen and invisible.

So why can't players fight on a sunny clifftop? The answer lies inside the design: lets imagine that the cliffside is burned heavily with the sunrays so it is bright, however, darkened greyclouds could move at high speed infront of the sun, while the arena has only a slight blowing wind.

Such minor things if contradict each other can create a very suspicious atmosphere. Lets just say that the MK1 backgrounds were so natural, that they filled in withy the darkness all by themselves. MK1 seemed more realistic than MK2 in certain ways, so I think that this very realistic back-ground fuelled the whole games darkness factor, simply becouse it represented that everything was real: the brutal moves pasted well into the background.

So much for MKDA having crappy atmosphere when it conmes for level design. The Tsung palace was more menacing that Kahns weirs tower in MK3.
