I wouldn't be surprised if they considered Nitara in the next game though I'm pretty sure she'd be DLC .

The game will most-likely become available on the current and next-gen systems. If not, just the current. I'm not gonna buy a new system just for one game.

Next-gen is out, why shouldn't they take advantage of it's huge potential?

I believe NRS made MK9 with continuity in mind.

Assuming this is true (which I'm inclined to think otherwise because...

A) They NEVER plan ahead for their sequels. It's always been the MK way to just do whatever and then wing it for the next one...

and B) they did such a poor job of remembering the old continuity, why should their attempts to build the new one be any different?)

But again, assuming it IS true...

They know that there would be a huge fan expectation for the MK4 crew (maybe not Jarek) and that room on the roster would need to be made. I believe that's why so many died in MK9.

Since they RIGHT AWAY after the death scene went "even though they're dead they're gonna come back anyway because Quan Chi has them as zombie slaves", it's way more likely that the REASON they killed them is because they thought MK4 SUCKED, and the reason they think it sucked is because Shinnok's army from Hell didn't have enough undead people in it. Because, y'know, it's from Hell. Where dead people come from.

So they made more dead people to give Shinnok a bigger army. And they made the dead people be good guys, to make Shinnok's army all sad and tragic and full of "I can't fight him, he's my best friend!" drama, and more threatening because no one in the world finds Reptile or Baraka scary anymore because they've never won at anything.

Honestly? WB. Despite many questionable moves with franchises, I do feel as though WB takes pride in their properties. I'm sure that during the Acquisition of Midway Chicago and the process of "where do we go from here?", there was some evaluation. In this, they decided to keep the current team. I'm sure somebody said "this plot got out of hand" and it has been addressed. I would at least expect that much of a company as big as WB. After Ubisoft only wanting the MK property and not the team, that card was on the table. If the team was kept, they were surely influenced in the WB Quality gospel as opposed to the Midway WE NEED MONEY gospel.

Then again, there was a time jump... haha. I do kind of understand it. It's a way to conclude MKA (to a degree) and really start their own life for the franchise. My first choice? No. Would other options be better? Absolutely. But it is what it is. We are here and have to hope for the best. It could be much, much worse.

After talking with Ed and some of the team at E32012, I again hide behind my belief in WB. They really are a very clever bunch of people who are passionate about their work. Ed blew my mind with his opinions about MK. He really is a true critic as well as a creator. He wants it to be all it can be.
I am sure there is some form of opinion of MK4 and whether or not they loved it or hate it. Likely the latter. I cannot help but expect beyond a doubt that they already knew during MKA that it was getting out of hand. The armbar that Midway must have had them in to produce a constant payout was likely a primary contributing factor. Very DBZ-like. Bigger and badder threats that everybody forgot about until they surface.

I don't blame Ed or Vogel. I would think it'd be largely the Midway push that create our debacle. Ed was quoted saying the reason WB brought the team in was "we wanted you guys because you know how to make MK games". Yea that sounds kind of funny to read but WB clearly showed interest in the team as well as the franchise. There HAD TO have been a session where they reviewed everything. WB understanding the lore side of things very well through DC, it definitely happened. I am getting repetitive but there is no way somebody never told them to keep the next game in mind.

The time jump really throws any theory up in the air to ground the plot in relation to this. A primary thought that crossed my mind is that IF this is a fighter, our dead characters would be directly ported models/movesets to only be fought (like shang/quan etc in Deception Konquest) while the main roster would consist of the new additions. An ill-advised but predictable move to focus efforts and resources on a better primary roster.

Time will tell, unless this turns out to be an adventure game (which is what I am hoping). Then this could literally be anything for any reason.

I've heard waaaay too many horror stories about the film side of WB and their ignorance towards the comic book side when making DC characters into films to ever believe any of that is true. Internally, Warner Bros. is such a gigantic conglomerate that different branches behave like completely separate companies of their own and there's surprisingly poor communication between them.

That said, WB is just a publisher. I don't see how the CEOs would have any interest in knowing what the storyline continuity of a video game they're publishing is.
Also, if I had to put money on it, I'm dead certain that the reason Armageddon had an "everybody we've ever made is back" roster has nothing to do with Midway (although the fact that it was so rushed they couldn't even write bios was definitely Midway's fault), it was Ed's idea and the reason Ed had that idea is because the FANS demanded it.
I don't know how well you remember what the community was talking about after Deception came out, but I do. Everyone and their mother was saying that they should make "Trilogy 2". "Make another Trilogy" this, "Make another Trilogy" that, it was friggin' everywhere.
Probably because people figured, since the entire Deadly Alliance cast was already fightable NPCs in Deception, they already had almost everybody in the franchise made for that engine, it wouldn't take much to hash out a third one with the few characters they hadn't done yet added in too.
And that is exactly what we proceeded to get.

If it were my call, I would wipe the table clean and stat all over again with a drastically either a new Reboot (that has nothing to do with MK1-MKA/9) or a continuation of what happens after MKA (AKA everyone is dead except a few and new start)

But MK is a mainstream fighter now, its treated like the other fighters when it comes to the roster. It must be full of familiar loved faces with one or two new ones.

Another reboot? What for?
Even if you was dissatissfied with MK9 story, it will continue to exist no matter what. However, it doesn't mean, that the new game will necesary be like it.
In short: away with reboots and haters - let's continue from MK9 and see what they can do. I'am all for it.
I don't know why... I think Shinnok is a very good guess... but can't help to think he might be the new Raiden. Just saying...

They will most likely continue the story of MK9. Why make such a long and detailed story mode that includes an open ending? To disregard it all for MKX? Makes no sense.

Some people not liking the story doesn't matter at all, it happened and MK9 sold over 4 million copies which is a big success for a fighting game. I am certain they will pick up where they left off.

Why is everyone assuming he's going to be shinnok? Did I miss something?

Is everyone assuming all characters keep the same voice actors? That's doubtful, he could easily be Kung Lao or someone.

Hope there's some truth to shinnok being In the game either way. Also this dude is pretty famous! WB aren't messing around with MK it seems.

I just don't like the way they headed with MK9's story. It is just... I don't know cheesy ? The way the characters talked to each others and the fights broke felt forced. Injustice's was even worse.

I don't think story modes give the games any good. When the story is divided into chapters, u will have to make every character has a similar # of fights and when u can't bring up a good one , u end up with Cage breaking up with Jax in a highschool like fight.

MKDA showed a deeper and much more elaborated story through the Konquest training mode and characters' Bios/Endings.
