I've had a problem with how MK has recently introduced characters into the storyline. In the classic MK's they introduced characters such as Jade, Smoke, (Ermac, ERror MACro), Reptile, & Noob Saibot by having them a secret characters. Then they became more involved in the storyline over time.

Now it's like we have to unlock characters that have always been in the series...Like Jax, Cyrax, Reptile, Raiden, & Kitana (Deadly Alliance)....Raiden primarily in MK:Deception...Why unlock characters that we already know about and their moves it's nothing surprising there, and it's nothing challenging about unlocking them? Just that it takes to damn long.

Sindel, Tanya, Liu Kang, & Jade were acceptable unlockable characters in MK:Deception because they we're never seen on the new game counsels. Jade, Tanya, and Sindel had only been in 1 MK before MK:Deception.

If you keep the main characters, lose and take a couple with some new characters(like Kung Lao from MK:1 to MK:2). But for the most part....go back to making new characters as hidden or rumored. Like Dairou, and those already stated....or just introduce them through a character's biography. The Dragon King was rumored all throughout MK: Deadly Alliance...thats why the build up was so great for MK:Deception.

This also gives a character a better ability to be involved in the story and have in impact in the storyline...cause know one knows about them..

I think this is a good point. But not only for the characters sake, but for the games - cus the secretive elements are severly lacking these days...

Reptile is my favourite character, and Cyber Smoke is my 2nd fave - both of which started off as secret characters, and I don't think it's by coincidence (cus I really like Blaze, H. Smoke, Chameleon and MK4 Noob and Goro too).

Starting off as a secret gives the character an aura they otherwise do not have.
There's just something special about them, not only the fact that they're usualy very strong also.

Imagine having someone like Hachiman as a secret unlockable warrior ? That would own...

I totally agree with this. They should keep all the old characters as playable from the start. Only fan favorites and new characters should be secrets. If a fan new their favorite character was unlockable, wouldn't you rather unlock him then some boring character. It would give you some initiative to unlock stuff.
