I've been thinking of some character concepts for MK7, and Sareena is one of my favourites so I thought I would share my ideas with you.

Firstly, I made a bio which encompasses all that is known about Sareena so far. Its not official, its my take on whats happened, and Ive written in the MKD style of first person. It's rather long so you dont have to read it if you dont want to. i'll split it between two posts and then my ideas for MK7.

Post 1: This intro.
Post 2: Bio till MKM:SZ (Quite Long...feel free to skip).
Post 3: Bio till MK:TE (Quite Long.....feel free to skip).
Post 4: MK7 Bio.
Post 5: MK7 Alternate Bio.
Post 6: MK7 Ideas.
Post 7: Possible Fatalities.

I will also add a drawing I made of her, If I can manage to get it uploaded.

I'd appreciate feedback on my ideas, and feel free to post your own Sareena related ideas too.

‘I am Sareena. Born of the Netherealm. My essence had descended here from a higher plane, and I was given human form by the one known as Quan Chi. Threatened with death and the prospect of living as the lowest form of life in the bowels of the Netherealm, I have had no choice but to serve the evil sorcerer. The sorcerer has had many slaves over the years, each treated with as little respect as the other, serving as spies, assassins or his ‘personal assistants.’ To begin with, I did not enjoy my work. Many of the people Quan Chi marked for death were helpless individuals, who were sacrificed to show others the power and control which the sorcerer had. I served with two other of his guards, Kia and Jataaka. They were callous women, who took no shame in killing to preserve their own life.....something- I am ashamed to admit- that I learned to live with myself. The three of us worked well together, and were ruthless in battle. But we shared the same hatred toward the slavery, and for the man who forced us to do his work. But, a chance encounter with an Earthrealm warrior would change the lives of all three of us. Around a decade ago, the warrior known as Sub Zero entered the Netherealm, sent by the Protector of Earthrealm and Thunder God Rayden. His task was to put an end to the plan of Quan Chi and his new brutal ally Shinnok, by retrieving an ancient medallion he had mistakenly given Quan Chi at an earlier date. While in the Netherealm, Sub Zero killed many of Quan Chi’s warriors, so the task fell on the shoulders of my partners and myself, to eliminate the Ninja. We decided that the best way to conquer the ninja was to engage him in battle together. We were naïve. The ninja had great strength and great knowledge of our fighting skills. My partners both fell in battle, and were brutally murdered. When it came for Sub Zero to finish me off, he spared my life. I lay battered, bruised and humiliated. But as I lay there, I came to realise that Sub Zero may be the one who could free me from Quan Chi’s slavery. I regained strength and followed Sub Zero, and witnessed him engaging Quan Chi in battle. The battle was fierce and Sub Zero was winning. As Quan Chi grew weaker, his body was thrown toward me, and I seized the opportunity to free myself. I rushed forward and finished the sorcerer. I was free!! Sub Zero stood there, breathing heavily, obviously shocked at my actions. But the victory was short lived. The fallen Elder God Shinnok had watched the whole thing and stepped out from the shadows. He raised a mystical circular medallion in the air, and at this time, I felt my body shudder. I writhed in agony. I had been taken over by a mystical forced that was draining the life from within me. The pain drowned me, and I felt my lifeforce drain from me. My aura however, lived on.

'The time I then spent in the Netherealm was shear torture. I was left to thrive on my own, surviving only through selfish acts. As I had no real form, I was easily able to hide and listen in on conversations with my enemy. It was by this means that I was able to overhear a conversation by fellow members of the Brotherhood of Shadows- an organisation of evil minions under the control of Quan Chi. Quan Chi was still alive and had been banished to the Netherealm.....still enslaving women to do his dirty work. He had also appointed a sinister unknown wraith called Noob Saibot to lead the Brotherhood. I also overheard my name mentioned many times. I was branded a traitor for what I did to Quan Chi, and with my whereabouts unknown, scouts had been sent out to track me down. Little did they know I was listening so was one step ahead. For decades I searched for ways to restore my human form. If it weren’t for two foolish Oni speaking openly about Quan Chi’s plan, I would still be rotting there. They were discussing Quan Chi’s plan to overthrow Earthrealm with the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Quan Chi had used ancient spells to open a portal to Outworld. But in his haste, had forgotten to close it. This left me intrigued. It was through unknown portals that Quan Chi transported Auras to keep his assassins alive. I decided to investigate, and remembering one of the spells, I crossed the portal. The first mortal I came across, I attached to and said the incantation. It worked!! The life drained from him, and his aura passed onto me. I did the same to another....and another...and another. Finally, I was able to fully restore my human form!! Freedom. Ahhhhh, I had forgotten how nice the air was outside of the Netherealm. No longer was I a Denizen of the Underworld. I was free. In my haste to leave the Netherealm behind, I ran. For days I wandered, feeding off of the human aura. I had also learned how to keep my prey alive and not totally kill them. I threatened people for information on the whereabouts of the one I helped in the Netherealm years ago. Seemingly, Sub Zero is now Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. I travelled toward a portal to Earth, only to find remnants of warriors shattered by ice. The ice was cold....He was still near. It was not long before I encountered him, although I had to fight before he would talk. I stopped mid battle to prove I meant no harm. As it turns out, this was not in fact my old acquaintance, but his younger Brother. I explained how my path has crossed with his Brother’s , and as a return for helping his brother those years ago, I was granted Sanctuary in the Lin Kuei temple, while himself and his ally Frost went back to Outworld to stop the Deadly Alliance.’

Sareena:
Origin: Netherealm
Status: General of Kitana's Allied Army
Alignment: Good
Allies: Sub Zero, Kia, Jataaka, Kitana
Foes: Quan Chi, Shinnok, Brotherhood of Shadows, Ashrah

‘With Sub Zero searching for his heritage, I was left in command of the Lin Kuei Temple. I did not want to let Sub Zero down, so enforced a strict training regime upon the warriors. During my time here, I was sent news that Sub Zero had allied with the Edenians, and that Princess Kitana was to be given control of our warriors. Kitana arrived and took over the troops, and asked for my assistance as a general in her army. I could not refuse, but before we rendezvous with the accumulated troops, I have one other task I must fulfil. I returned to the portal which I used to escape the Netherrealm, and searched for a former ally. He is a potions master, and has ways of tracing the essence of fallen warriors, and helped me track down Kia and Jataaka. My former allies had deteriorated more than I expected. I could not let them rot here any longer. Drained and unable to control spells, I could not teach them how to restore themselves. The potion master gave me an alternative, to place the essence of Kia and Jataaka within two razor rings. This way, I could find a way of restoring them without them degrading further. The weapons would also aid me in battle with Kitana’s army.’

Alternate Bio

‘As I made my way to the rendezvous point in Edenia, I was attacked. I did not recognise the woman who attacked me, but I sensed that I knew her. The woman was foolish. She appeared weak, but hell bent on fighting me to the end. As I battled, I felt my comrades Kia and Jataaka speak to me. They spurred me on, and I easily defeated my attacker. She revealed herself to be Ashrah: a former being of the Netherealm and servant of Quan Chi. While serving under Quan Chi, she had been ordered to track me down, and now on a quest to destroy all evil, she seen this as a chance to eliminate me. I explained that I was aiding Sub Zero and Kitana, and like her, had no interest in pointless evil acts. She then informed me that Sub Zero was in grave danger from the Wraith Noob Saibot. He is now known to be the Older Brother of Sub Zero. This news shocked me. I left Ashrah battered and bruised and continued to the rendezvous point, where I must ask Kitana of Sub Zero’s whereabouts. I must find out more about the return of my former ally.’

Fighting styles:

Fighting Style 1: Hsing-Yi Chuan.
Mind-body boxing. This style encompasses self defence, self healing and mind-body co-ordination.

Fighting Style 2: Bak Fu Pai.
White Tiger Kung Fu. This style is similar to Fu Jow Pai. It incorporates, kicks punches and combo attacks.

Weapon style: Razor Rings.
The essence of Kia is contained within one, and Jataaka the other. Razor rings allow for close kombat, as well as mid range kombat.

Special Moves:

1. Double EnergyBall: Two fireballs, browny/yellow colour- releases one from each hand that hit at same time

2. Back Flip Kick: Does back flip, kicks with both feet as she is going back

3. Spinning fist: She does a turn on the spot to gather power and backslaps her for in the face

4. Aura steal: A bit like Shang’s move in MKDA...steals a bit of aura and rejuvenates

5. Lunging Kick: Sareena jumps toward her foe, as her leading leg lands she kicks powerfully with her trailing leg.

6. Razor Ring Toss: Sareena throws her razor ring at the enemy

Fatality 1: Aural Distortion.
Sareena stands midscreen and chants an incantation. A browny/yellow aura appears around the enemy. Using her powers, Sareena distorts the aura and therefore the foe, breaking there arms and legs. She then does a backflip kick and breaks her foes neck.

Fatality 2: Backbreaker.
Sareena approaches her opponent and does a spinning punch to the face. She then kicks her opponent’s abdomen, making them fall onto their knees. She then walks behind them, puts one foot on their back, pulls their arms backward, and pushes on their back with one foot, snapping their spine. Sareena’s foe screams in agony until the back breaks.

Weapon Fatality: Kia and Jataaka’s Revenge.
Sareena throws one of her razor rings and slashes her opponent’s stomach, as the fall onto their knees; she launches the other, decapitating them.

Hara-Kiri: Aura Release.
Sareena jumps away from her foe, raises her hands into the air while she chants a spell. In an instant, Sareena’s human form becomes a blob leaving a brown/yellow cloud, which vanished in a flash of light. The remains of her human form are left at the battle scene.

Great thread. I like your ideas. The essence of Kia and Jataaka being in Sareena's weapons is a cool idea.

I've always said there's massive potential in Sareena. I think if she's developed correctly she could become the star of the Netherealm plot thread. As of now she's neutral, stuck in the middle of everything, and could be swayed to join either side. That and she has connections or potential connections to almost every other character involved.

This is my MK7 bio for Sareena:
"I am no hero, I make no secret about that. I did not ask to be what I am. I did not ask to be a Demon, nor did I ask to be an assassin. I've no interest in fighting or death or war. I only seek freedom. I only seek to live my life in peace. But unfortunately, that is almost impossible because of what I am.
"For centuries, I suffered in the bowels of the Netherealm at the beck and call of madmen. For centuries I desired nothing more than to be free from that pit and to be free from my degenerate masters. I took a chance by allying with the Lin Kuei ninja Sub-Zero that cost me dearly. I was caught by Shinnok and banished to worst part of the Netherealm where I suffered for over a decade.
"But I finally found my first step towards freedom when I discovered the portal Quan Chi used to escape the Netherealm. From there I regained my human form and I believed was finally free.
"Or so I thought. I've come to realize that I will never truly be free as long as I am what I am: a soulless Demon. 'Abomination,' 'lowlife,' 'degenerate,' are just a few of the things people use to describe me because I am a Demon. Everyone expects me to betray them or to do some terrible, inhuman act. Honestly, I do not blame their suspicions.
"I do not want to fight, but I soon find I may have no choice. After my escape from the Netherealm I was offered sanctuary by the younger brother of Sub-Zero and for that I am grateful. But he has many enemies who now consider me their foe. I also have old enemies who seek to send me back into the Netherealm and new ones who seek to do the same just because I am a Demon. I do not wish to fight, but I will to defend my freedom. I am never going back to the Netherealm and I will never be enslaved by another again."

This is a concept drawing of outfits I drew for her: Sareena Concept

Basically in MK7, I'd set up Sareena's goals and what she's after and some of her initial conflicts. Since this would be Sareena's first official appearence in a game think she should get a good establishment of her character and goals before things really start to happen.
All she wants is to be free and live in peace. But no one trusts her because she's a Demon.

I don't know much about fighting styles and I'm not much for making up special moves or fatalities. She'd be top tier, but not cheap. I'll just leave it at that.

Now in MK7, what I'd do is have Ashrah, who escaped the Netherealm, learn that Sareena is on Earth. Ashrah, knowing that Sareena's a Demon and an assassin of Quan Chi, would immediatly assume she's evil and must die. Ashrah would then start hunting Sareena unaware that she turned against Quan Chi and has no evil intentions.

I also thought of a side plot involving Frost's return. Basically, Frost stealing Sub-Zero's Medallion didn't kill her, it just unleashed her power, but her body needed time to adjust to it. She returns desiring more power from the Medallion and returns to the Lin Kuei pretending she has no memory of betraying Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero, partially blaming himself for Frost's near death, will accept her back and continue to try to teach her discipline, unaware that Frost is only planning on betraying him.
Now this is where Sareena comes in: she discovers Frost is only planning on stealing the Medallion. She tries to warn Sub-Zero, but who's he going to believe: his pupil or this Demon from the Netherealm he barely knows? Naturally Frost will take advantage of this mistrust and try to make it look like Sareena's going to betray everyone.

This leads to her ending:

After finally escaping the Netherealm, Sareena was offered sanctuary with the Lin Kuei by Sub-Zero. She accepted his gracious offer and stayed in the Lin Kuei Temple while Sub-Zero remained in Outworld. However, with Sub-Zero returning from Outworld with news of Onaga's coming invasion, Sareena offers her assistence in helping him, not wanting to be enslaved by anyone again.
Sareena tried to gain the trust of Sub-Zero and his allies but her suspicions of Sub-Zero's pupil Frost hindered her intentions. Sareena suspected that Frost was planning on betraying Sub-Zero, but no one believed her. Frost capitalized on this mistrust and turned Sub-Zero and his allies against Sareena, forcing her to flee.
As Sareena tried to think of a way to prove she had no evil intentions she was suddenly attacked by the Demon Huntress Ashrah. Ashrah claimed she would send Sareena back into the Netherealm where she belonged. Sareena tried to tell Ashrah that she no longer served Quan Chi and she meant no harm to anyone, but Ashrah would not listen.
Ashrah attacked, forcing Sareena to defend herself. She managed to defeat Ashrah, but Sareena spared her life. After the battle, Sareena realized that she would never be truly free and no one would every really trust her as long as she was a Demon. She needed to find some way to become human.
After seeing Sareena's mercy, Ashrah realized that she was not an enemy and offered to help her. She revealled to Sareena that there was a way to purify herself of her Demonic taint and be truly free. But in order to do so, she would have to return to the Netherealm and find the Kriss.

So in MK7 we get a proper introduction to Sareena and her goals. We also get a Sareena/Ashrah feud, a Sareena/Frost feud, and she is given the next step to achieving her goals. While establishing Sareena's character there's stil some developement and hint for her future.
I wouldn't rush the Noob Saibot/Sub-Zero card into MK7. This'll be a big moment for Sareena and deserves build up.
The big stuff for Sareena, and the involvement of Noob, Quan Chi, and others would become factors later on.

I'll post more later.

Nice Ideas XiaouDun84. Good work.

Personally I dont like the thought of Frost coming abck, but the story with their rivalry is intruging.

And where u say the Noob/Sub Zero thing shouldn't be rushed, well I agree in a way. For me, that is what would truly introduce Sareena to the main storyline. I also set up a rivalry with Ashrah and left her ending, which I haven't come up with yet, as the real lead into the Noob/Sub story and lead her into MK8.

As for Quan Chi, well that sotry will no doubt develop further later on too.

Okay this, is Sareena's storyline progression beyond MK7:

I see MK7 as getting the ball rolling for Sareena before she really takes center stage of the Netherealm plot thread. By MK8, all the pieces should be in place, so to speak.
In MK8, Sareena will reluctantly return to the Netherealm to find the Kriss to purify herself as Ashrah did. And this would be where Sareena takes off.

I'll explain Sareena's progression through the characters she could interact with.

Noob Saibot
Way I'd play it out, the reason Sareena liked the original Sub-Zero was because he was defiant to Quan Chi. Quan Chi wanted Sub-Zero to join the Brotherhood but he refused and that's what Sareena liked about him. So when she discovers that after his death he was turned in Noob Saibot, the Brotherhood's dutiful slave, naturally it'd be a crushing blow.
As Noob becomes the ruler of the Netherealm and leader of the new Brotherhood of the Shadow, he would reveal his identity and true intentions for Sareena. As ruler of the Netherealm, he offers to let her rule by his side as his queen. Noob will be the factor that tries to sway Sareena towards evil. Even though she hated the Brotherhood, Noob'd assure her he won't treat her the way Quan Chi and Shinnok did.
The promise of power and her feelings for Noob/Sub-Zero will tempt her to join him. Will she? Or would she try to return him to being Sub-Zero?

Ashrah
As I said, Ashrah would at first assume Sareena's evil and try to kill her. But once she learns that Sareena turned on Quan Chi and that she doesn't want to be Demon, Ashrah will try to help. She'll see a relection in Sareena and make it her mission to see to it Sareena gets her freedom.
If you want to get deeper: in Ashrah's MK:D bios, she explains that she was forced to kill her own sisters. Wouldn't she have attempted to convince them to join? She probably did, but they didn't listen and she was forced to kill them. So for Ashrah, helping Sareena becomes personal. She doesn't want to fail Sareena like she failed her sisters.
Ashrah will become the factor that tries to keep Sareena good, as a counter to Noob Saibot. Ashrah would be an important figure to Sareena because Ashrah is living proof that Sareena can achieve her goals. And, by pointing Sareena in the direction of the Kriss, she's offering her a chance at freedom.

So between Ashrah and Noob Saibot, what will win out for Sareena? The promise of the freedom she desires, or the promise of power?

Kia
I see Kia being developed as Sareena's mortal enemy. Like Mileena is to Kitana, or Tanya is to Jade, or Shang Tsung to Liu Kang. I haven't worked out the details in my mind, but I see Kia being Sareen'a nemisis. All Kia wants is to see Sareena dead. Jataaka could also be used for this.

Quan Chi
Quan Chi will be a factor later in Sareena's story. Having not forgotten that she betrayed him he'll begin to take a personal interest in making her life miserable. Way I'd go with it, is Quan Chi is one of the main reasons Sareena hated the Brotherhood and the Netherealm because he takes a sadistic pleasure in tormenting her. I don't see Quan Chi just trying to get her killed, or having any interest in which side she takes. He just wants her to suffer.
One idea I thought of, Quan Chi finds the Kriss before Sareena does. Knowing that's what she wants, Quan Chi either uses it as a bargaining chip, forcing her to be his slave by dangling it in front of her (one of the factors that will tempt Sareena to join Noob Saibot) or just flat out shattering it.

Sub-Zero
Sub-Zero would be another factor that tries to keep Sareena good. I figure by this point he's realized that Sareena was right about Frost and try to make amends for not trusting her. Since Sub-Zero is one of the only humans who is willing to give her a chance, Sareena would probably continue to try to earn his trust.

Reiko
I've long been a supporter of Reiko's hinted connection to Sareena. I always thought that possible connection had much more potential and would have made much more sense that Reiko's possible connection to Shao Kahn. If Reiko ever comes back, I really do hope they develope that aspect of his character and leave his Shao Kahn connection in the past.
If you've read my "Reiko & Sareena" fan fiction you know how I see Reiko's character and his involvement with Sareena.

Scorpion
I know MKKitana won't be a fan of this, but figure Sareena is a character who hates Quan Chi and has issues with Noob Saibot. Scorpion also hates Quan Chi and has issues with Noob Saibot. They're bound to run into each other sooner or later.

Drahmin
After betraying Quan Chi, Sareena was banished to 5th Plane of the Netherealm as punishment. Maybe Drahmin was one of her torturers? Something that could be explored if Drahmin should ever turn up again.

Frost
If Frost returns, she could go in the direction I suggested. Afterward, she could be recruited by Noob Saibot and we could see a Sareena/Frost feud further developed.

Sektor
Sareena is involved with the Lin Kuei and an ally of Sub-Zero. That automatically puts her in Sektor's crosshairs. Something that could be developed.

A future boss
Say when this whole Noob Saibot situation clears up, Sareena still has not found a way to become human. Quan Chi or Kia or someone could still be around to make Sareena's life miserable. Then comes a future boss charcater who says "Serve me, and I'll make you human."
What would win out: Sareena's loyalty to her newfound allies or her desire to be human?

New characters
As Sareena's story developes new characters could be introduced that could feud with her or help her.

Nitara
No real connection or paticular reason for this suggestion. I just think it'd be cool, a Demon chick and a Vampire chick brawling with each other.

If you pace this storyline and address each character or connection, Sareena could easily have stuff to do until at least MK12. I could see, just as a rough outline:
MK7- feud with Ashrah; feud with Frost; must find the Kriss
MK8- looking for the Kriss; Kia/Jataaka return; Noob makes his move
MK9- will Sareena join Noob?
MK10- conclusion of Noob Saibot situation
MK11- Quan Chi has the Kriss
MK12- alliance with Scorpion and/or Sub-Zero against Quan Chi; Quan Chi shatters the Kriss
MK13- new boss makes Sareena an offer

And that's assuming MK will keep going until 13.

I see your point about Frost. I'm not fond of resurrections either, but I do like the idea of Sareena trying to warn Sub-Zero about Frost, but he doesn't believe her and just wanted to mention it.

I love you guys ideas and concepts for Sareena. She has a lot of potential, and need to make her appearance in a "real" MK so badly. She's too interesting and cool to be left out, and as you guys say, there's a lot of connections with other characters, even though I doubt the Reiko one will come to anything.

I have a Sareena bio in my own thread of MK7 bios, mostly concentrating on having her torn between Sub Zero and Noob, though I did give her a small connection to Nitara, because I like that idea too.

Lol you recognise my dislike for Scorpion I see. Lol. Well actually I had thought out the possibilities and likleyhood of their paths crossing. I don't see them allying as such, but yes their paths will certainly cross.

Again good work, Outlines well how much potential Sareena has.

My main idea for MK7 involving Sareena/Sub/Kitana is that Sindel notices something on Sub Zero's armour that is like writing/hyroglyphics in the Edenian vaults, but this is a dangerous place and only Edenian throne Bloodline is supposed to enter. Sindela grees to take him there in return for using the Lin Kuei warriors as part of an army Kitana is building up, so she offers Sareena a position as general. This encorporates Sareena into the possible situation of encountering many warriors in the MK world to further her story.

NIce Pic too XiahouDun84.

I really love the costume design.

I would really love to be able to put my Sareena pic up, but I dont ahve a scanner jsut now, and taking a photo with digital cam will prob be poor quality. But I would like to see her in predominantly a Maroon/Wine coloured costume for her primary. I also have her more fully clothed than her MK:TE render lol.

Also as regards using the Kriss to restore her human form, well I'm not too sure. (Sorry I hate to sound like Im putting your ideas down). I just don't want Sareena to become too like Ashrah and risk her being another rip-off character. I like the idea of Quan Chi toying with Sareena and the Kriss before destorying it...as potentially it's a threat to him too.

I agree. That was something that worried me when we found out Ashrah's story. That's why I think Quan Chi should find and destroy the Kriss before Sareena even has a chance to use it. It stops her from becoming an Ashrah rip-off, tempts Sareena to join Noob Saibot, and adds to Quan Chi's mystique as MK's total prick.

(Finishes looking through the thread) This is some serious stuff that should be used in the next game. To me, it was really shocking to learn that Sareena and Sektor wouldn't be in Deception and I thought that it made no sense. Hopefully both of them along with Kitana, Fujin and Kai (these 5 should have been the "Super Unlockables" of MK:Deception) would be in MK7. Go, Sareena!!!!

Yeah sorry the thread is so long lol.

I was also shocked they weren't in Deception, they seemed to use MK:TE to build them into it, then they just got dropped. It was weird. I do think however the sotry of Sareena fits in well now with the Two Sub Zeros being present. (And I also think all 5 of those charcters should be in MK7).

Great work, Kevo!

I'm impressed. Sareena has massive potential in terms of her alignment and allegiance in MK and I am hoping they will use her for MK7 so that we can see what she plans on doing. I love her story and believe it to be one of the best in the series. It's a pity she was never in a mainstream console game.

I like the idea of the Razor Rings and Kia and Jataakas essence being wiothin them. I think more of her specials and even another Fastality could be based off them.

Thanks.

And yes it's a shame she was never in a mainstream game, though I think they will use her......eventually #rolls eyes# and MK:TE was a way to kinda gradually build her in.

As for another weapon fatality, well I personally think that in MK7 they should have 3 fataliities, one of which will be a weapon kill. I wasnt a fan of how some characters only used their weapons to kill in MKD. OK, sometimes its only possible for a character to kill that way, but where possible I'd like to see two non-weapon kills and one weapon. (At the very least, One none weapon).
