Mortal Kombat X story questions
I'm unable to justify spending £300 on a new games console when I only play 3-4 times a year.
However, I'm a massive MK story fan, have been since game 1. After finding out the game was not coming to PS3 I've decided to watch the story online as recommended to me on here. All the knowledge I have of the game is from that story and the MKX mobile game. From that I have some questions which may be explainable from playing the game. If someone could try and answer any of the following, or let me know if there is no explanation that would be great!
1. Why is there a "possessed" Kenshi variant when he does not become posed in the story?
2. Why are the variants of Kung Lao and Liu Kang in human form when they appear to still be reverants?
3. Why are there so many normal scorpion outfits when it appears that he's now just human again?
There were loads more, should have written them down.
Thanks

1. There is no explanation for why he has a possessed variation, just like there is really no explanation for Kitana's Jade variation (like how she has her staff and glaive)
2. They both have their revenant costumes you can unlock, but their primaries are like "what if" costumes, probably what they would look like had they not died in MK9 and survived the 20 year time skip. They are still revenants at the end of the story.
3. Do you mean like ninja like costumes? I assume its because he would still likely wear those types of outfits even if he is human again, or at least when he is out doing Shirai Ryu related stuff lol

Most characters got a human costume, probably to not spoil the fact they wouldn't be saved and also because half the roster would look mean in black leather and big yellow veins.
Kind of like Sub-Zero, Scorpion's main costume was probably designed before the story was written and it serves the purpose of having your two most popular and recognizable character fighting in the first media released.
As far as variations are concerned, some of them are non-canon. Kenshi is never possessed, but it's a possibility if Sento breaks, so they gave him that. Kitana is never revived, never find out anything about Jade(fuck, even we don't know anything about Jade) but she can mourn her and use her weapons.

I think that Hanzo having control over Scorpion again he can become him at will, can't him?

I don't know. I felt that when he fought Scorpion in the comic he pretty much lost all his inferno powers. It would work well with the story where he doesn't use any of it.

Wait, what? There is too an explanation for Kitana's Mournful variation, the name itself explains the purpose of Kitana having that variation.

Because as the poster child for the series, he'll get as many costume as the developers sees to it.

But can you mourn someone if you're dead as well? I know it's a non canon variation like Liu Kang's Dualist, but the explanation makes no sense because she's dead as well.

I know, but like Kenshi's possessed variation, it's not canon. Jade is dead and Kitana's mourn her and pays tribute to her by using her weapons. We get that.
But Kitana is still a full-on revenant from MK9 to 25 years later. She doesn't mourn Jade. She's probably not even fully aware that Jade isn't with them.

Some variations MAYBE will be explained in the comics.
Like blood God was for Kotal Khan.
Its been hinted that Liu ́s Dualist maybe is because he is learning to use Sorcery and that could be usefull for the writers if they decide to revive somebody again (like Jade)
As for costumes like Scorpion and Sub, it is suposed to have wear their primary costumes somewhere between the first and the second arrive of shinnok.
But again all that is just seen in the comics.
There are a lot of the story that remaind unexplained until the comics came out.
No suprise if in this second half once Sub finishes Sektor we will get info about.
Liu Dualist./ Dragon Fire, Kenshi Possesed, Kitana Mournfull and so On.

The comics just have one chapter left and it's about Sub-Zero fighting Sektor... I don't think they'll explain variations at this point. Of course, they could do a season 2.

Not really. The only thing we have is that she uses her weapons to mourn the loss of her friend. Which is fine and makes sense, but nothing like that happens in the actual story, so its just a "what if" variation. If it was "real" we would need to know what happened to Jade "she wasn't part of (Qaun's Legion Of Doom) and where/how Kitana got her stuff, because when we last saw Jade in MK9 she was part of the revenant gang and still had her weapons lol

The simple answer is that these things don't make sense.
Possessed Kenshi doesn't happen in the course of the story. (The possession is by one of the spirits residing inside Sento - a fact I didn't actually realise until I read it on the net a week ago, because it's not ever really explained properly in the game.)*
"Living" Kitana, Liu Kang and Kung Lao don't happen in story, yet not only do those skins exist but their interaction intros suggest the hypothetical "what if" scenarios too. It probably would have just been easier to resurrect those three as well as Jax,Sub and Scorp in the course of the story and let everyone else be Quan Chi's captives (Stryker, Nightwolf, Sindel etc.)
*Many of the game's aspects and story's plot holes are never really explained properly to be honest. Even the exposition falls flat. I blame the fact that they put things in the comic that should be in the game - like Quan Chi resurrecting Sub without the Cyber tech.

Kenshi's sword cracked, note the variation cue, cracks all over the blade. He was posessed by one of the spirits because of that.
Mournful is a nod to the pallette swap days.
Dualist is Liu's struggle between light n dark.
The variations got explained somewhere, maybe the kombat klass tutorial/showcase vids.
