Well, Midway is probably already planning for MK7. Boon said that a kreate-your-kharacter mode could be included in the next game which brings a whole lot of possibilites. Therefor this subject should be discussed in a serious way since the MK team really reads these forums.

In an earlier thread someone suggested that you shuld be able to write your own storyline etc. I really think that is a bad idea. Also there are the problems with Online play. I sure as hell want to play my customized kharacter online, don't you?.

Therefor I have come up with some suggestions for creating your own character.

First of all, there should be a few different races to choose from, for example Oni, Spectre, Human, Cyborg etc. All of theese races should have a canon story. For example the Human character must travel to Outworld and defeat Shao Khan and in his ending he has succeeded (this is just a lame example).

About choosing your own name, it would be cool but I'm not sure it's possible if you want to play online. Each race could have like 10 different names, to add some variety.

After you have choosen your race and your name, you should be able to choose your appereance. For example the human could have 10 different heads (one with a beard, one bald etc). Of course the torso, arms, legs etc should be able to be modified.

Each race should also have like 6 different styles to choose from. 4 martial art styles and 2 weapon styles for example.

I know this suggestion isn't perfect so please feel free to fill in what I have missed and what could be improved. If we get a big thread Midway might even use our ideas.

I don't see what would be wrong with online play confused

you should be able to choose from all BASIC races (human, Edenian, tarkatan, shokan, Saurian, demon, etc.). as you progress through a konquest type game, vampires, werewolves, cyborgs, etc, can turn you into one of their kind.

when you start, you can measure, on sliders, how fat you are, your hair length, etc. you choose your skin color, basic costume parts, spawn point, etc. you start with no specials, no styles (besides a really crappy generic style), no allies, and a few measly 3-hit combos. as you progress, you join clans, learn styles and moves and weapons from trainers, get better with your styles and moves and weapons, or you could not join any clan and level up your generic style and specials. you can also improve your costume. when you've reached a certain level in your fighting stlye, you can measure on sliders how fast, strong, offensive, or defensive it is. there is least 1 person in each clan that you can unlock in arcade mode and tag team with by becoming allies with them. you progress ranks in your guild and fight battles and stuff.

since you have to make your way through konquest to gain all your moves and stuff, n00bs are not rewarded online. fucking button mashers.

you have the option of writing your own bio, but otherwise it is generated depending on what rank you are in your clan. you can select your allies and enemies (if you plan to assassinate or betray someone) or it is generated by what you've done to who in konquest.

so, what would be wrong with names in online mode?

The names, idk, it wouldn't be too kool to have names to choose from. Since it is a kreate-a-kharacter you should be able to do that part urself. The endings and story wouldn't be able to be custom either. You would need pictures showing your character's ending and everything, it just wouldn't happen.

If MK does do a Kreate a Kharacter thing, it will most likely be a like the above posts say, sort of. There will be all kinds of clans and races, a male and female of each. You make the character under which kind of character u choose to make, then build up their strenght, whether it be in a "Konquest" type mode or some other way. What midway would do with the endings is probably just show your character standing there over the main boss, sayin whatever the name is wins.

well, the endings could be generated the same way your bios are. they'll be different depending on your rank in a clan and which clan. if you are a footsoldier, the ending will show and talk about you winning a battle against the bossses armies. if you are an assassin, it'll show and talk about you killing the boss (or a general)

Let's not forget here that by the time MK7 comes out in the Fall of 06 most likely, Xbox2 will be in its second generation of titles, and PS3 as well as Nintendo Revolution will be well into their first generation of titles. If not being able to create your own storylines/endings, races, name your character, and have plenty of styles, special moves, weapons, clothing, etc has to do with the power of systems, then this shouldn't be a worry. The next generation of systems should easily be able to hold a large fighting game with a robust kreate a kharacter mode.

I'm not as psyched about online play, since I don't really have any intention of getting online with my videogame systems any time soon, so I'm fine with earning clothing, races, weapons, special moves etc through the arcade mode, a survival mode, a tag mode, etc as well as unlocking stuff in the krypt.

The problems are obviously how deep can Midway go within the year and a half they have to make the game. Of course, they can always push the game back to 07, but it's somewhat safe to bet on an October 06 release. Can Midway make a brand new game for new systems and yet have time to implement a deep and rewarding kreate a kharacter mode? I'm not too sure. I can live without the story stuff (although MK is a story driven game, so one thing that might lure me online would be the opportunity to see other created characters stories, and maybe thier endings if you beat them), but if Midway is going to do this they should do it right. I don't want a few stock items for each race because then everyone will look alike and probably play alike. The key to a good create mode is variety.

The other problem comes with presentation. I think everyone would agree that it would be very easy for Midway to make a create mode that looks very out of place with the rest of the game. No one here wants a mode that looks like it was transplanted from Smackdown or something like that. This is just an idea, but I'd like to see a small town, riddled with MK style, that has someone that cuts hair, a weapons shop, a dojo (for receiving styles), a clothing shop, etc. These don't have to be interactive though. Say you win scrolls or something like that in arcade mode, survival mode, tag mode etc for achievments. Beating the game with Reptile, defeating Johnny Cage four times in survival mode, or winning 74 matches with Rayden, or winning ten tag matches in a row with Liu Kang and Kung Lao, or performing Kano's fatality on Sonya in arcade mode etc. The characters would drop scrolls that could be redeemed in the town, and the items go into the kontent mode, where you can choose to leave them there or add stuff to your created character. Again though, this would require time to make, but it could be possible. If the MK team members devoted to konquest, Puzzle, and Chess from the last MK worked on the kreate mode, it could happen. Konquest was rather huge afterall, and MK:D was completed in roughly the same timespan, if not less.

So sytem power, game creation cycle, mode depth, and MK style presentation are all big issues with a kreate mode. But I think that this post provides some relatively solid answers for all but the time issue. I think that this mode could be done and done well if they give players enough options and allow us to really use our creativity on this.
