SELECT NO VARIATIONS!

Hi Kombatants, For those who aint make this yet.
To select a character with No Variation just:

1)Select the character
2) instead of chosing a variation pres UP, UP, 1 (Triangle/Y)

Some characters are very usefull without variation.

For example: Liu Kang retains his bycicle kick and has his quick fireballs like in Flame Fist.

If I was ever to use Reptile I'd probably select no variation as I really don't like the snake belt, green noxious cloud or maskless look for him. His variations don't seem that useful anyway.

Some characters like Reptile won't even notice the difference, characters like Kenshi wom't know who they are anymore lol.

What visage do the characters take out of the three variations when you play without one?

None of them. You can see it in the character viewer when you select no variation.

I thought this was already widely known - good to see this post has been helpful for people.

Regarding what visual effect you see - for some characters it is unique. For example, the "No Variation" version of Kano is where his green Cutthroat color scheme went.

Whaaaaaaat? You can do that? That's awesome! I'm eager to play some of my old mains in a more traditional style. Also aesthetically I kind of like seeing them without the little visual cues and just in their normal models/ colors.

Played my boy Reptile with no variations. It was awesome. It felt so old school. Thanks OP.

It's a fun little hidden detail, isn't it! I checked it out with my main Kotal, and a bunch of other characters when I found this out. It wasn't exactly something I'd try online, as it puts most characters at a disadvantage. But maybe some actually benefit?
