The Future of Mortal Kombat

Loved by many, hated by many. Mortal Kombat is is the source of all fighting games, the ancient soul of video violence. The epic confrontation of Shang Tsung and Liu Kang, the climactic defeat of Shao Kahn, the explosive destruction of the Deadly Alliance... The uncertain fate of the Dragon King.

From the time it emerged, Mortal Kombat has established itself as "the mother of all fighting games." And so - its future? Will Shaun Himmerick and Paradox Development return with the Kombat team to create an ultimate new set of gaming entertainment?

My hopes are as such: Paradox is the ultimate ally of the MK legacy. With their combined intuition and skill, it is easily possible to create a breath-taking game. We have the perfect example with Shaolin Monks.

As has been established, many fans are displeased with the current MK fighting engine - the controls are inferior, difficult to maintain, and the once-vicious Fatalities are (debatably) no longer so. But there is an ultimate solution...

Combine The Skills of Paradox and Midway

'Tis simple: The Midway team crafts the storyline and characters. Paradox, working with them, assists with everything to improve and perfect gameplay and concepts. And most notably, Konquest is designed utilizing the Shaolin Monks software.

Think of it: The brutal style of finishers as seen in 'Monks, an expansive Konquest mode with brutal playability, and a breath-taking Arcade of, as ever, one-on-one fighting, using weapons, styles and bloody death traps (and the Battle Plan! tongue).

From what we've seen, the Paradox fellows are very skilled in crafted an amazing Mortal Kombat game. If they continue to work together with Boon's team, Mortal Kombat can become the unquestionable champion of fighting game features, playability and quality.

What are your opinions on the matter? wink

Well, heh, Paradox made the backyard wrestling games, which were horrid, lol. I'm not familar with their X-Men series, though. I think Paradox couldn't do any worse of a job designing MK as their big brother. The fight mechanics in MK:SM are much better than D and DA. I'm not familar with paradox enough to base or label them as an exceptional company, though. Like I said, their Backyard wrestling series was bleh.

People are jumping all over the nuts of MK:SM, but to those who have played the demo and seen the videos, it has issues. Hella glitchy and the voice acting and overall presentation was is kind of weak. Though, like I said, the mechanics are much better than this new gen of MK.

I'm not sure how Paradox works. I'm not sure if they are a secondary unit of Midway, company wise, or just a development team within the company, like Team Ninja for Tecmo. Give the gameplay to Paradox and let Midway handle presentation; sounds good to me.

Actually, I'm going to head out right now and pick up those X-Men fighters they made, lol. Give myself a better idea of whether or not they know wtf they're doing.

I didn't like the whole "news announcer" intro. We're not ignorants, if we didn't know all of that about MK, we wouldn't be on this site. But don't worry, I have a sense of humor. Can't you see the smiles? furious

You could've just said, "Paradox is making MK SM look nice, should they work more closely with Midway on future MK games?" instead of that rambling.

In case you didn't know, Midway bought out Paradox a while ago (it's been almost NINE months, took place November '04), and they're now known as the "Midway L.A. team", just like Boon and Co. are the "Midway Chicago team". Below are several news links:

I have a good feeling about MK:SM, it has so much freedom it's not really easy to say.

I think the final version will be alot more solid than the demo as are most games.

I love the fact that you can just literally make your own juggles and combos with you own imagination.

That is sweet, i never played an adventure side scroller/3d fighting adventure game enable you to do so much.

Granted it's a little glitchy, but then again it's a demo, i wouldn't sweat it.And i feel that this game has lots of potential to be one of the best adventure/fighters of 2005.

And also the multi-directional thing is pretty insane, so easy and so much fun to kick the shit out of three or four guys at once.smile

But KaizuDragon, it's fun - you don't become the creative mind behind a multi-million dollar media franchise by using acronyms abbreviations! tongue

Of course, if you deem this a worthless thread, by all means take it upon yourself to notify those with the power to close it.

Well, I picked up X-Men:ND tonight. Been playing for a while. Not sure about ballance, and probably never will, but it's got hella good movement. You can BDc fucking everwhere, but "it seams" to have preasure options, like snake stepping, moves that cover space well, etc. So it all evens out. I'm pretty sure it's broke as fuck, lol. Seams way to loose and free in the options, but that's cool, no worries.

Point being; if the team that worked on this worked on the mechanics for MK7, I'd be happy as a clam. MK:SM has some sweet mechacanics for a brawler, least it seams that way now. We'll see when it comes out, meh.

not sure who mentioned this earlier...but it must be mentioned again...two words....BACKYARD WRESTLING....while it's looking like they're gonna blow the brains out of the beat em up genre with and awesome showing of shoalin monks...i don't see them teaming up for an official mk fighter....it even states on the main page that shoalin monks and mk 7 are being made by two different developers...shoalin monks =paradox(midway L.A.) mk7=midway chicago(boon's team)
