He sounds like a predictable character... Almost all of the elements have kombatant counterparts. Maybe bumping him before he had the chance to exist was wise on Midway's part, though if he were to return his appearance could resemble a semi-transparent liquid version of Blaze. Hornbuckle could just be a Hotaro-like warrior which ambushed Blaze on the bridge in The Pit II. Gorbak definitely exists, otherwise Goro would be King instead of Prince, wouldn't he? Hopefully Midway will research these forums and realize we bothered to remember these unknown characters, so they can at least put air into them. wink

I agree with you 100%

Hydro's look would probably be similar to Blaze's, except that he would be made up of water with some aqua coloured armor on. I imagine his special attacks would involve high-pressured water blasts, whirlpools, hot water beams, etc. If he was in MK7, I'd like to see him side with Noob Saibot a.k.a. Original Sub-Zero, just like in the comics. Seeing a fued between him and Smoke would be sweet IMO. But as much as I love the idea of Hydro being in MK7, I don't really see it happening. Hydro is from the comics, and Midway has yet to put a character from the comics into an MK game. I kinda doubt they will since the comics and the games don't tie in, but you never know.......afterall, it was the fans that bought characters like Ermac, Noob Saibot, and Baraka back in MK7. I think Hydro has huge potential to be in an MK game though, and IMO he's someone that could have an instant fan-base if he's made correctly.

As for Hornbuckle, I hope we get introduced to him in either MK7 or MK8. He should ATLEAST get a mention, but IMO they should change the name.......I mean, come on, HornBUCKLE? I can't imagine that name getting called out in MK after beating someone, it sounds cheesy. Since Hornbuckle looked like Liu Kang, they should give him an asian name just like his. Anyways, If he's in MK7/MK8 I would want his story to be involved in Blaze's. Perhaps the 2 of them were long-time arch enemies and Blaze was going to slay him, only to be forced as the protector of the Dragon Kings egg. I hope to see him in a future MK game, fully revamped with a great story.

Ed Boon said that all the rumored characters will be presented in MK SM.
So we'll see him along with many other rumors in the game.
I dont know what they will put in mk7.

OK, let's clear things up about Hydro. We are NEVER going to see this character in an MK game. Why? Simple, he was not created by Midway, he does not belong to them. Hydro was a Malibu comics creation, and only appeared as a killable filler in those. For copyright reasons, we will never see guys like him, or movie/TV show characters such as Art Lean and Taja. Hydro was basically just Sub Zero with katanas anyway. As for Hornbuckle (who the hell named him), maybe as a one off extra, but with his own look and a new name, like they did with Blaze.

But, as for unused MK concept characters being brought into the games, yes, I am all for it. This happened with Dairou, who began life as an unused MKDA concept. I would love to see ideas like Elder Demon Baphomet (another MKDA concept), Rokuro (old MK1 concept) and a few others be made into real characters. For some of them, I sometimes wonder how they were dropped in favour of worthless crap like Kobra.

There are many characters who haven't actually appeared in the games as playable characters who could make at least decent replacements for characters such as Tanya, Mokap, Jarek, Kira, etc. I don't understand how such pathetic characters get a nod over these much cooler seeming characters (Tanya especially, since she was chosen twice).

Here are some I can think of-

Hornbuckle - I don't like this name... sorry. I doubt they would use it though, after all 'Blaze' wasn't what most people called 'Torch' back then.

Zebron - Who couldn't love this guy? Zebra prince of his realm... I think we'll eventually see him make at least a cameo appearance.

Rokuro - Old concept from MK1. Here is some information I have gathered on his storyline:

Rokuro belonged to a race of demon warriors called the Rokuro-Kubi (Demons of the Dark). Reputed to be savage barbarians, Rokuro used this misrepresentation against his opponents. He used the tournament to restore the pride and respect of his race.

The Rokuro come from Japanese mythology/folklore, and one of the most well-known stories about these entities was translated by Lafcadio Hearn in the early 1900's in his book called Kwaidan. In 1964, stories from Kwaidan were turned into a film of the same name, but Rokuro-Kubi was not among them (the tone of this particular story would have been at odds with the creepiness of the rest of the film). As for the Rokuro being in Mortal Kombat, they would have made for some interesting kombatants.

Apparently, Rokuro was an early concept of Goro.

Shadow Priest - I have long hoped one of Shang Tsung's Shadow Priest would be a playable character.

Hachiman

Excellent looking character from MK:DA's Krypt. Carrying a long sword and dressed in red, Hachiman wore a type of mask not seen in MK before.

Baphomet

The Elder Demon. This would be a great new villian character.

Lucifer

A canon part of the MK storyline. Perhaps his essense could be freed somehow. Many mistake Lucifer as being "Satan" from religion, but that isn't necessarily true. They are two different individuals.

Konga

The big drummer from the Makeba Canyon in MK:DA who would challenge both fighters in the event of a draw.

Kia

One of Quan Chi's assassins from MKM:SZ, killed by Sub-Zero at the time. Obviously, being a demon death means little to her... given Sareena's return.

Jatakka

See Kia.

God of Fire

I would personally love to see more of the Gods. We know very little about them... not the Elder Gods, but Gods such as Raiden or Fujin. There must be more.

God of Water

Same as God of Fire. A true water elemental would be great to play as.

God of Earth

Too large to be a playable character, probably... but perhaps a sub-boss.

Tiamat

Reptilian looking creature, likely used to develop Reptile's MK:DA appearance.

Siobhan

Counterpart to Li Mei; concept from MK:DA's Krypt.

Undead General

Second in command under Onaga. This guy's concept is from the MK:D Krypt... definitely should have been the sub-boss. Noob-Smoke have nothing to do with Onaga and should not have been a sub-boss team.

Tremor

Ninja palette swap from MK: Special Forces and member of the Black Dragon. He could control the Earth and apparently had former ties to the Lin Kuei. He was brown in colour.

Tasia

Female assassin with twin swords from MK: Special Forces. Worked with the Black Dragon clan.

No-Face

Explosives expert from MK: Special Forces and Black Dragon member. Carried a flamethrower.

Chow Kang

Liu Kang's brother's name, according to his MK1 instruction manual bio. His current whereabouts are simply listed as "unknown".

-----

That's about all I can think of, at the moment. There may be more... here's an easy to read list of everyone above in alphabetical order:

Baphomet
Chow Kang
God of Earth
God of Fire
God of Water
Hachiman
Hornbuckle
Jatakka
Kia
Konga
Lucifer
No-Face
Rokuro
Shadow Priest
Sioban
Tasia
Tiamat
Tremor
Undead General
Zebron

The five I would most like to see from this list-

Baphomet
Hachiman
Shadow Priest
God of FIre
God of Water

They used mortal kombats ideas to create the comic and with permission from midway anyway even if hes dead hed probably be in the netherrealm thatd be cool if he was similar to noob saibot but with different powers if they brought him in he would definetly ally with noob

Damn! wow Good work, ~Crow~. Here is a URL which I think most of your information came from, for the others...

http://www.angelfire.com/sd/scaifsal/mk/a.html

Most of the people online would already know of the encyclopaedia. It seems impossible to reach the main link page for each letter, so replace the "a" in the URL with a different one.
I also can't see why characters from the comics can't appear in the games. The comics obviously would of originated from the games, so technically I don't think it could "steal" the concept of Mortal Kombat and create a unrelated franchise. It could be difficult if they decided to want him, though. Since Hydro was created by Malibu, Midway may have to purchase the copyright. All I'm hoping for is great new characters, referenced or not. wink

Subzero6969, you've kinda missed the point. Midway let other people use the Mortal Kombat license for movies. comics, TV whatever. Those people use the basic setting and characters of MK, but adding their own twists to things, which explains stuff like Sub Zero and Scorpion as Shang's servants in the movie, and the stupid Malibu comics plot involving the riddle book.

This goes for characters too, who only appear in these things, Midway themselves had no hand in creating them, and I very much doubt they would buy the rights to guys like Hydro and Art Lean. Why spend money when they can create their own new characters? I think these characters were created, one, to represent the fact that other people took part in the tournament, and two, to provide characters to kill without having main ones we all know die.

What Midway could do, is base their ideas around some of these things, this has happened in the past. Kano became Australian due to the 1st movie (before he was "adopted by an American woman in Japan"), and Jax's metal arms are more than likely based off Lance in the Malibu comics, as he had one.

The only canon comics are the MK1, MK2 and MK4 comics written by John Tobias. These were done by the co creator of MK, and tie in with the MK storyline, except a couple of retcons. There were a few minor extra characters in these.

King Gorbak- Goro's father, King of the Shokans. Looked like a bearded Goro in a cape. Had a big spear.

Original Kung Lao- The man who originally beat Shang Tsung before losing to Goro in a later MK.

Master Wu- Master of the Shaolin temple. Old Chinese guy.

Jake- Sonya's MK1 partner. Looked like Rambo, most likely dead (he was part of her team taken hostage).

Beran- Jax's MK2 partner. Skinny guy with glasses, named after Steve Beran. Killed by Mileena.
