Interesting indeed. What this article is apparently leaving out are the accusations that Daigo was payed to lose to Lupe as part of a publicity stunt.

No matter the controversy surrounding his Street Fighter V chops, Lupe has drawn the ire of some of the biggest NRS players in the FGC, with names like Perfect Legend, Kitana Prime, Pig of the Hut, Tyrant, and MIT(to name a few), all adding their two cents.

Sonic has layed down a challenge for a set in MKX, and even so humbly offered to teach Lupe SFV afterwards. The shots...they are fired.

I doubt anything ultimately comes of this, but certainly brings a bit more attention to the oft overlooked FGC.

Kick, push, kick, push, kick, push....

Lol at Fox calling out Lupe. Lupe has more talent in his little finger than Fox does in his fluffy blue hat.

This stupid commercial plays ALL the damn time I work. Apparently Gamestop thinks they are reporting big news for Lupe "beating" Daigo.

I will say there are a lot of people who think its bullshit.

Update: It would seem that Lupe Fiasco deleted his tweet after being called out by Sonic Fox.

Are you joking? Lupe is one of the worst rappers in the biz. I could name fifty dudes better than him. I'm not even a fan of Sonic Fox but he's easily the best MK player around atm. Either way, the skills don't cross over, Lupe's rapping "talent" isn't being questioned, it's his ability to play fighting games.

Nope, not joking. He's great and that's my opinion. What isn't an opinion is the unneccesary shade throwing which is pathetic. Just a further attempt to look cool. Pissing matches don't make you look good either way, they make you look small and petty. I mean, you summed it up perfectly; musical talent doesn't cross over with video gaming abilities yet here he is, a professional gamer talking shit to someone who isn't even near professional level just because he's famous and was involved in a publicity stunt. Always thought Sonic Fox came off as childish, this cements it for me. He's a great player but immature as fuck.

The fight between Daigo and Lupe was so fucking fake, you'd have to be mentally challenged to believe Lupe actually won. Throwing random SRK's like a little scrub. It was so sad to look at I can't even express. I guess when your players loose to Japanese and other Asian players in tournaments like EVO for 7 years straight, you have to pay off people to let you win.

I laughed pretty hard at seeing people, not only on here, defending Lupe. His music is average at best and his win over Daigo was fake. If anyone thinks he has a chance against the EVO Champ of 3 completely different games then they have a wake up call to answer. Sonic Fox even offered to play the game that has player skill level which, according to lord and savior Lupe, determines whether people go play MK.

Kenshi I have to disagree with you on this one. Lupe started all of this with his little tweet "Mortal Kombat is for people who can't play Street Fighter. If anyone in this "dispute" is childish, its Lupe IMO. Sonicfox only sent a challenge to him because of his comments about Mortal Kombat and its players.

For the record I have always liked Lupe's music, but he was the instigator in all of this.

That's what rappers do on Twitter, tbh. It's all publicity. And Sonicfox took the bait; hook, line and sinker. Could've been the bigger person but who am I kidding? It's the internet. There are no bigger people.

Lol dude. I like you Kenshi but I also cannot disagree with you more. While I don't think Lupe was being 100% serious with his little anti MK comment and was just talking some shit to stir things up he still got called out because what he said was total BS. Lupe is a very musically talented individual and I am a fan but that is not the issue whatsoever, he's a casual FG player and not a name in the FG community whatsoever. Just because Lupe is kind of a celebrity doesn't mean MK fans should bend over and let the dude talk mindless shit. Sonic gets mad props for shooting him down. And just because Lupe wanted more attention doesn't make Sonic a fool by any means, if anything he just played along because fuck it why not. Publicity for both as well as the MK scene. The number one player in MK defends the game against a celebrity rapper who said something legitimately dumb, serious or not it was funny and pretty cool of Sonic.

Maybe it's just over my head but I personally don't care about Lupe's opinions on gaming, nor a Twitter "beef." I could care less what he thinks of Mortal Kombat. I could care less if Sonic Fox, a person I find highly annoying anyway, took offense to it. I could care less if anyone dislikes Mortal Kombat or thinks low of it in any way. What matters is my enjoyment of it as it only impacts myself and I can't do a thing about anyone else and their pleasure or displeasure about it.

The fact is my point still stands; this shit doesn't do a bit of good for either of them in my eyes. Does it get MK publicity? Sure. But it still makes them both look immature and stupid for going in on it, in my eyes, because it's a fucking Twitter "beef" for crying out loud. The most embarrassing, least influential way to debate something ever created.

Maybe I'm just a fan of, like I said, being the bigger person. Maybe a clever post or reference instead of straight up calling someone out. It all reeks of attention seeking to me, from both angles. Sonic Fox (and PerfectLegend while I'm at it) both can't be that stupid and ignorant to not know all of this is a giant stunt, and either way they both played into it out of sheer ignorance or simply trying to play the defense, but it still makes all of them look dumb to me. That's just how I feel. It's the biggest waste of time on the planet worrying about someone else's opinions.

True, that is what rappers do on twitter now (Kind of lame imo) but I don't see how Sonic taking the bait or not being the bigger person makes him the only one at fault, nobody would have to be the bigger person if Lupe didn't try to troll the MK community. I do think some of the NRS top players could have been the bigger person and ignored him, but that doesn't automatically absolve Lupe of any wrong doing, IMO. He doesn't get a free pass to put down an entire fandom just because he's a successful hip-hop artist.

I still like dude's music, but I can't side with him on this one lol

They're all idiots, tbh. They have thin skin if they can't accept certain people have differentiating opinions on gaming franchises. MK isn't for everybody just like SF isn't and people have preferences. Then there are people who like to be vocal about their opinions or those who want to use it to gain attention. Both parties here are at fault in my eyes for being completely childish over this.

At the end of the day, Lupe probably got paid for this whole thing. Sonic and Legend or whoever else that were 'defending' the franchise just look like the usual loudmouth fanboys who cry foul whenever someone badmouths a beloved franchise. Just another day on the internet.

The whole thing absolutely got blown out of proportion, but in many ways, Lupe getting called out on his capcom elitest bullshit, especially based on recent events, was appropriate.

Could it have been handled better, sure. But it just looked like all the shit the NRS community has had to eat from Capcom fanboys over the years just finally reached its boiling point. Wrong place, wrong time.

I'm honestly more surprised no one pulled the sales card. Figured that would've come up by now.

1. Wasn't Diago paid to lose to Lupe?

2. NRS chimed in on the matter, which is why Lupe deleted that tweet.

Yeah, though I don't think anybody is happy to see SFV struggling.

Well to be fair, Capcom is going for the long haul. They want to try and last at least 5 years or until the next console generation. So if the launch sales aren't strong it's not the end of the world. They'll get more sales overtime. I expect a sales hike when Story mode and the Arcade Mode eventually gets patched in. Also when big DLC favorites like Juri and Urien come out.

Whereas MK gets all the sales right out of the gate, and support dies a little over a year later. Followed by the announcement of a new game and the cycle starts over again.

Two different approaches for two very different fighting games.

This is all true but it's just a sad state of affairs. Just sort've a bummer it's not doing so hot at the moment. Healthy competition keeps the genre alive and well, it's honestly a little disheartening how the launch of SF went along with the sales projections. I may not like the franchise but I respect it enough to want to see it do incredibly well. I only hope these incredibly low sales don't affect any of their future plans for the game if Story Mode and DLC Wave 1 fighters don't heavily increase sales.
