Here are some additions that could be made to online play

1. Ranking system.....
a.make it so you cant go lower than the rank of the person you lose to....therefore if the two best go at it...they wont end up being ranked 10000 after beating up on everyone.
b. rejecting challenges should weaken ones rank of the one rejecting it...and raise the rank of the one getting rejected.
c. wins and loses should be pro-rated againt the opponents rank...that way if you are beating up on a 3 year old who never wins it wont impact your rank that much...but losin to him will really hurt you...also winning against a top player should have a dramatic impact on raising your rank while losin wont do tooo much.....
d. inactivity should also lower rank (lets say for every 2 weeks you dont play you take a serious rank drop (this way the top ten will reflect real fighters...you cant get to the top and retire to keep it their then get another screen name...champions should be active....
e. However....if you spend a certain amount of time( 1-2 months of active play with a certain number of matches required to get there) in the top 25 you should be able to go into the hall of fame (this will create legends in their own time)

With this set-up top players will get alot of challenges and have to take them. they would have alot to lose by facing a crappy player and little to gain...but if they didnt face all comers their rank would lower...so to be the best you would need to be active and good....

2. Expanded stat tracking...
a. lets see how often someone picks a given fighter and their record with said fighter. ( we can truly see who our best character is)
b. lets keep separate rank for each character (we can see who the best at a given character truly is)
c. Keep track of match up stats - (how does your Kang do agains other ermac etc.)
d. Keep track of all-time stats add up all the fighter wins and loses with each character to see which character is performing the best online.(this could actually act as a clan battle situation...if i am a sub0 fan i will play as him against the scorpions to proove who is the best and i will help teach other sub0 how to play better with him

3. Online practice mode...this should have no bearing on ranks this is a place where players can sharpen their online skill against each other in a non-timed, no death areana....that way you can practice combos and techniques on each other.


With this system eveyone would know who the best online player and character is...we would also know who the best at every character is. There would be no disputing the Lords of Mortal Kombat (hmmm this would be a cool name for the Hall of fame i was talkin abut). After getting beat by Alexio 10-1 my rank would not be like 40,000
