Ways to unlock characters in MK7
Sorry, but I've gotten sick of the Krypt. Midway should think of better ways to unlock the hidden characters.
One way that it could be done is to have you win all the matches without losing once. This could unlock someone. You could also be timed, like beating the Arcade mode in under 8 minutes will unlock someone.
But my personal favorite would be to have a Mission Mode, a la Guilty Gear. You have to beat set requirements. For example, you are Scorpion, you only have half life, and you can't do special moves. Your opponent is Sub-Zero, and he is twice as fast as normal, and does double damage. These kinds of missions would be fun IMO.
Survival Mode is another way. Say you beat 50 people. Yay! A character!
Can't think of any more right now. Post your ideas.

in the next mk fighter..im makin this based on a no konquest mode game
the roster should have 1/5 of the chars unlcocked
that way each char can unlock 4 chars..therefore provding variety...
so we know each char can unlock 4...now they do it by
-beating arcade mode=char1
-25 survival wins=char2
-under 8 mins arcade=char 3
-all flawless victory arcade (any diff)=char 4
therefore every player has to have skill with all chars and not a cheap ass to unlock the chars...so after all are unlocked...
now lets just say the roster has all chars:..i think it would make it between 80-100 chars...lets say 100 to make it easier
so thats 20 chars to start...each unlocking 4 would make a total of 80 unlocked plus the original 20 is 100 chars
now the select screen will be a box type screen..like deception but bigger
each corner would contain 20 unlocked chars...so beat arcade on max with 1 corner of 20 cars gets 1 of.....
4 SUPER UNLOCKABLES
continue to own with other corners of unlocked chars to have the 4 players select icons in each corner change when u push select/back...to reveal a super unlockable...
damn im good...midway should hire me..lmao

Maybe something like Tekken where when you beat the game with a character their counterpart becomes available.

I like the idea of using Mission Mode to unlock extra fighters and stuff. Completing set tasks and/or reaching certain points of the mission could get you a fight with a hidden character, and if you beat them, you can play as them.
Something I thought was cool in Rocky Legends was to have a Shop mode. You'd earn koins as normal, but instead of looking through random coffins hoping to get lucky, you are able to see exactly what you can buy, and for how much. This would cut out the wasting koins on useless crap, and you could go straight to aquirring characters, stages and decent things. After all, who really wants to unlock a photo of Ed Boon or whatever? Obviously, not every unlockable should be available with this method. I like the concept art in the Krypt, but think that should be available in options from the start, as it doesn't work as an unlockable.

Yeah, I like that idea about a Shop. If it were anything like the one in WWF No Mercy, I'm all for it.

How about in arcade mode some hidden character pops up and you have to fight him/her. if you win, you unlock them, if not ; try again next time.

I like the old Tekken sub-boss system, where you'd play through Arcade Mode fighting the chosen character's sub-boss before the last battle. That character would then be unlocked. I doubt it'd be a good system to be used in MK - characters would be unlocked too soon, and it's storyline-influenced.
So I reckon finishing "Arcade Mode" for the first time with a certain character should give one of the co-ordinates in the krypt, and finishing it a second time gives you the second co-ordinate. Then it's just a matter of amassing the required amount of koins and opening the right koffin.
Example: Kitana's "sub-boss" is Mileena, initially unplayable. Beating the boss of the game with Kitana once gives you co-ordinate A, a second time gives you F - koffin AF unlocks Mileena, for 9000 Ruby Koins (you have to work for it). What I like about this system is that you'll see the unlockable in action before you get to play as them.

I think someone said this. probably when you beat arcade with someone, their greatest ally becomes unlocked. like if they used it in Deception,
beating it with Sindel unlocks Jade
beating it with Mileena unlocks Baraka
beating it with Ermac unlocks Lui Kang
beating it with kira unlocks Kobra
etc.
I also like Sektor13's idea

I think the 'Tekken way', where you beat the game with say Mileena, and you unlock Kitana or Baraka is too simplistic and boring.
I'd prefer to beat the game with a character, then be given a quick screen or something that hints / gives you a clue about unlocking the character. I would like to see certain difficult achievements that are pulled off in arcade, 2 player, online etc. be rewarded with unlocking hidden characters. So a double flawless victory + fatality on Ultra Hard difficulty in 1 player Arcade mode, on one specific stage - would unlock a character.
And if you beat regular arcade with Mileena for example purposes, then in her ending there could be hints as to how to unlock Kitana or Baraka or whoever else might be storyline related to her...
That's how I'd do it, add some mystery back to Mortal Kombat...

That would be a better way to utilize the currency earned than the Krypt. I'm a fan of the Krypt as much as the next MK gamer, but it was in two games already, time to do something different.
Of course, another idea, would be to do a Shop/Krypt combo.
