In MKX's story mode, I get the feeling that there is an implication that Liu Kang and Kitana have something between them. But they're revenants, aren't the revenants incapable of emotions? Also, how was it decided that they would be King and Queen instead of Liu Kang just being King? What made Kitana the queen of the Netherrealm?

They are together, even prior to being revenants..
Incapable of emotions?!
They all seemed pretty damn angry at Raiden...

But it was never shown, just implied.

Good point, but that scene in story mode where Kitana and Sareena are fighting, Kitana talks shit to Sareena for having emotions.

Another thing to point out is Sindel said that her and Kitana reconnected in death or something. So there is obviously a sense of comradery amongst some of the revenants, but do they love?

No disrespect, but ain't you guys taking things a little bit too seriously ? It's MK.

Yes I do enjoy the story modes of the games for the laugh of it and the general stuff.. Scorp hating on Sub Zero, Shang Tsung being Lo Pan and Cage joking around in the latest game, but that's pretty much it.

I disagree.
The MK lore has all the potential to be taken seriously. It lacks the interest of the team behind MK. This doesn't mean we cannot speculate about it, just like we did non.stop since 1992.

To answer the topic:

Kitana said it herself, "[being a Revenant]. Suits better to me, I feel no longer a victim".
Kiatana and Liu Kang played the goofy goody two shoes for too much time, and what they got from it? Death, blood, violence.
As Revenants they are free to express their freedom and mutual love, something that only NetherRealm gave them. So they are betrayers of Edenia and Earth, and join the NetherRealm as a place where to fulfill their dream of love.
This story is so full of potential...
What if Kitana and Liu have a child, with the blood of the MK champ, the royalness of The Princess of Edenia and the evil powers of the NetherRealm?

I love lore speculations and discussions, that's a big reason for this forum.

Anyway, I also find it puzzling that Kitana is still referred to as the princess of Edenia in MKX's lore. In the new timeline, that started in MK9, Kitana was only the princess of Edenia when she was an infant. She spent over 10,000 years as the princess of Outworld, not Edenia.

Quan Chi & Shinnok are dead, why still revenants? Revenants was never explained and just sloppily put together. I think it's rather lame, and having Liu Kang & Kitana next game as evil is only temporary so rather just kill them off and skip that part. Shang Tsung capturing their souls for example and putting them in a goon's body would be a nice twist. If Fujin takes over from Raiden and he stays dark or dies at the end, so absent for the game after that, I hope it's in or else just skip that as well. Why have a story when you know the outcome will be that everbody turns good again in the next game?

Let's say they are rulers of Netherrealm, it will be Shang / Quan Chi after them which is rather boring. Indeed Kitana is not the ruler of Edenia any more and Outworld is taken by Kotal Kahn. They kind of messed up by skipping over the Netherrealm Wars and not giving Outworld's deal with Earthrealm the proper attention either. So Raiden will attack others, so will he just get other revenants or also evil goons like Baraka etc? Will it be a war for the alliance of characters? Chaos vs. Order? Dragon King stepping in? Blaze an idiot on fire out of nowhere on a temple, beating every one? As I said in my thread, they can do whatever they want but I sincerely hope it's no DA and or Deception re-telling, no nonsense like Kitana & Liu evil for one game and good the next and take full advantage of the realms this time!!

Shinnok is not dead and rejoining his severed head with his highly healing body is one of they future events of the story.

The Revenants are well explained, son. They are "evil undead warrior" Johnny Cage stated it in the very beginning. They DO have emotions, memories, vengeance desire and all their powers, if not something more as stated by John Vogel himself.

Shang Tsung absorbing the soul of Kitana and Liu Kang? Maybe as a plot twist, but now we need to see some degree of interaction between the Nether royal family and Dark Raiden.

No, I'm very against bullshits. Especially on a forum where EVERY FU**ING thing bad about MK X got a hell of wagon jumping, wheter true or not.

Let MK X have the hate it deserves, but at least blame on it with TRUE accusations.

They have feelings yes. But corrupted by Netherrealm. Logo yes, they can love.

But nothing indicates that revenants may have children when they are revenants. Totally believe that they do not reproduce.

Finally it seems that we will have an interesting relationship of Earthrealm threatening the legitimate government of Netherrealm and Outworld in the next game. It's a nice reversal, and so Raiden take a base on earth antagonists (could include your Shang Tsung service). That said I think two ghosts could just go over to the Dark Raiden. Smoke and Noob Saibot.
iirc, Sareena said that Bi-Han freed her.
Whether she meant from Quan Chi's control or with love I'm not sure.
Some people think Frost is their daughter.

It's not that they don't have emotions, they're just more inclined to evil now. Darker versions of themselves. People wanted Liu Kang dead for the longest time, while others wanted him to be dark/evil as character development, as they were sick of the whole cliché good guy shtick.

I believe Frost is the daughter of Bi Han and Sareena (But I think Sareena is a demon a bit different from a revenant).

And it seems that love freed from the control of Quan Chi.
