A long time ago I was reading an interview in GamePro magazine shortly after MK1 had come onto the scene. They were interviewing Ed Boon and John Tobias about what all went into making the first Mortal Kombat. For some reason I always remembered the story about how the giant "Buddha statue" (their words) in one of the backgrounds was actually a lawn ornament they borrowed out of their neighbors yard... without their knowledge.
I always love hearing about what all goes into making the games and when you think about it, the crew at Midway was taking gamers behind the scenes with them long before it was an industry standard to do so. The "making of videos" are one thing, but the krypts recently are so chock-full of sketches, animatics, animation tests, motion capture sessions, etc. etc. etc. I can't really think of many other developer teams that pull back the curtains all the way like this. And it's not just the two co-creators that get all the glory. But most of all it's just cool to see everyone behind the scenes having fun making Mortal Kombat. That's what it's all about, right? Anyway check it out; a whole collection of behind the scenes videos!
