In Annihilation, the desert Jade appeared in had some mystical elements to it.

First, it's where Nightwolf emerges from, seemingly "out of nowhere."

And the background of the desert changes when Jade transforms into her costume as if what Liu Kang was originally seeing was an illusion.

So perhaps, this desert was intended to be somewhat mysterious and mystical.

I have no idea about its location, but it might be in Outworld. Jade was working for Kahn during this time so it was probably held there.

In the movie it was located on Earth, so that could be too.

i guess when Earthrealm and Outworld were fused in MK3, Kahn let Jade rule that desert. meaning that desert is both Earthrealm and Outworld. once Kahn gets defeated, Cyrax meets this on his way to the lin kuei from wherever he came from once the two worlds were split

I guess is when the earth realm and outworld fused Jade's Dessert and Lin Kuei headquaters were fused in the same location despite being in different realms. At that point were the two different realms merged. I guess.

yeah, that was always was a bit odd to me.

It seemed to make sense when the UMK3 "upgrade" first came out in arcades - players were already familiar with Cyrax's ending in "regular" MK3 where he ends up getting trapped, and now we got a glimpse of it happening.

As time went on, it became apparent that while Cyrax didn't WIN the game or beat Shao Kahn, this is one portion of his ending that still happened - he still ended up getting stuck in the desert, until later rescued by Sonya and Jax. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that this could happen mid-tournament rather than post-tournament. (IF MK3 is even considered a tournament.)

The only qualm I have with any of this, is what DrZoidberg pointed out. The paradox of there being 2 Cyrax's if one has selected him as their fighter. This isn't really worse than, say, any time there's a Mirror Match; however, it is when the MK team first started getting "lazy" because there were never any previous such paradoxes in any of the MK games.

I'll tell you what's the point, Icebaby: I have noticed that you are, in fact, quite often brash and aggressive in discussions, then you turn all self-righteous when someone replies with your same tone. Like the time I was nearly lynched because you wanted to "warn" me about rules I had not broken and wasn't going to break, and I was called "aggressive" simply for answering that if I have to be lectured, that's the moderators' job. Think about all the times you flamed someone or a thread you were discussing was closed and you'll see my point. There is a reason if people have often something to say about your attitude.
Now, back to the topic, I don't think this issue is relevant, I don't think there is a canon answer, I don't think the creators put much thought in it.

I disagree on people's opinions like a critic... I have the right to disagree with people's opinions because they SPECIFICALLY ask for our thoughts and opinions. Therefore, I give you my opinion. Unless they don't want people to ask us what we think, I will continue to say what I want, whether or not I'm agreeing with them or disagreeing with them.

And some people don't like the way I disagree, I tell the truth... except, as always, the truth hurts I guess and they do the insulting first... I don't be aggressive, I be descriptive when I explain why a certain idea wouldn't work, or it's just not that good. You cannot tell me I'm not allowed to post my opinions in a thread that's expecting feedback. Because then you're saying that all those who critique in the Fan Submission form should shut up because they go to the extreme...
