Recently, when on the Grand Theft Auto wiki, I saw they split the different games made in different eras as the 3D Universe and the HD Universe and it got me thinking...

Could the Mortal Kombat series be seen as something as like that but a series of trilogies?

For example, the first trilogy of Mortal Kombat consists of 1, 2 and 3. It's essentialy the first trilogy of the franchise.

After this, the series transitions to 3d. Mortal Kombat 4 is the transition game between the first trilogy and the 3d era games.

The next trilogy would be the 3D Trilogy consisting of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon.

I see Shaolin Monks as a "What if" game.

The next transition game would be Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, what's used in the some of the game is used for the next trilogy with battle damage

The next trilogy is the HD Trilogy with Mortal Kombat (2011), Mortal Kombat X and the next Mortal Kombat game.

Thoughts?

I see the first 3 games as height. The speed increases, combos are added, levels above and below broken through on 3.
The 3d era as breadth. Moving on a lateral plane, different fighting styles, many new characters.
Mk2011 as depth. X-rays, 3D.
MKX as time. All old styles together but not to the extremes as before. Timeline story.

So the next logical step will be space.grin
