Is Cyrax in fact an African American and do you think he will have a similar alt-costume in MK9 ? Ever since i played MK-DA i have been wondering if that look was canon or just maybe Midways way of bringing in more African American characters? What do you guys think? This has always confused me.

It's canon. He was black since MKGold. There's also that MK9 casting sheet floating around.

So, is he actually American? Or is he just black?
I know Sub Zero is half American but he is half Chinese and he has relatives in the Lin Kuei - but this doesn't explain how Cyrax got in (if he is indeed full American).

Wasn't the Lin Kuei meant to be a Chinese clan of assassins? Or did they recruit people from all over the world? This could explain Takeda (Japanese), and the American members (Cyrax, the Sub Zero brothers).

What nationality was Sektor?

Never really thought about the Lin Kuei like that before.....

The Lin Kuei originate in China, and their HQ was in China (until MKDA when Subbie moved it to the arctic) but they kidnap children with mutant powers from all over the world to stock their ranks. That's why there's black guys like Cyrax in there.

Sektor might be Japanese. The MK9 voice actor casting sheet just lists him as Asian, but it might be telling that when he left to form the Tekunin, he moved to Japan just like Takeda did.

Or maybe an asian black man. Hell, he could be aboriginal. There are other people colored black than afro-americans, africans...

Damn, and here I was hoping for a bit more diversity with the characters. Being from India just seemed more interesting to me, it at least made him come from Asia. There aren't many actual Asian characters in this game. confused

For a game that is supposed to take place in Asia and other realms mostly, you do have a point that there aren't many actual Asians. It's strange how white Shang Tsung looks now in contrast to the first few games.

I do have to disagree with that. The main character is Asian, but the game takes place all over the world, and in other dimensions. Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Bo' Rai Cho (Outworld, but he looks Asian and has an Asian name), Shang Tsung, Li Mei, Hsu Hao, the Sub-Zero brothers, Scorpion, Shujinko. That's ten of 63 characters that are all Asian in heritage or appearance. In appearance they look asian but also sub zero is half asian. ermac is a multidude of sould outworld are outworldians so not half the cast is asian although they look it.
