How do you feel about the names of the Mortal Kombat characters?

I'll start with what I think about the characters in the first game.

I really like the names of Lui Kang, Raiden, Shang Tsung, Goro, and Kano.

I would like Sonya Blade, if there was no Johnny Cage. I think it's weird that they have last names of like things. Now don't get me wrong, I like the names sound, but I do not like that they are the names of the characters.

I like the name Reptile, but I do not like that the Reptilian creature is named Reptile. Hopefully his disguise name as a human and he has another name as a Zaterran.

I like the code name of Scorpion (oh my am I one of those people who are too dumb to know it's Scorpian? Ah!) and I was really happy to see that his animality was not a scorpian.

Lastly, there's Sub-Zero. I would like the name if I could just fathom why exactly the Lin Kuei would want to pretend that they have an immortal among them. I guess it's supposed to be cool and make others fear them. Or maybe it's just a legacy thing like Raz Al Gul in Batman: Begins.

Okay, I'll also go into MK2.

I like the names of Major Jackson Briggs o.r.t.a. Jax, Baraka, Mileena, Kitana, Kung Lao, Noob Saibot, and Shao Kahn.

I do not like the name Smoke for the grey Ninja. I think it's cliche and guess what? The guy emits smoke and now he is running around as a smoke elemental. Unless this is a code name, I do not like it.

Then there's Jade. I love the name Jade, but go figure it's a girl who wears green. I guess I am biased because I like her as a character, but I think it is kind of cliche to have a green character and name her Jade.

I guess overall, I like all the names of the MK characters, but I just think as a whole there are a bunch that are collectively cliche and lame (but still cool sounding and suiting for their character).

You are free to discuss any character from anywhere in the series. I just started with MK1 and 2 because I thought it would be a good starting point for me.

i like kurtis stryker a.k.a stryker but he is only a riot controler and he have a riot and stun gun but the name stryker it's sounds like a swat codename but kurtis is a riot controlerwink.......

well theres alot of names i dont like, seem to be just thrown togeher, i dont like mavado, it sounds like a french gay name. taven, i just dont like at all, fits no where. mokap, goofy. i guess thats it

Actually, when I first read there will be a secret character in MK2 named Jade, I thought about some disreputable woman, not green ornamental stone.

Initially, the character was named Malvado, which means "evil" in Portuguese and Spanish. Not so gay, I guess. Later, they took the "L" out. Did that make it gay?

And your thoughts on Smoke...what the hell? "I don't like it unless it's a code name"? OF COURSE it's a code name! Why would you even think it wasn't?
And your glad he didn't turn into a Scorpion did you not see MK4 he did turn into a Scorpion

i think the naming has been pretty good, considering sektor was almost named trom, (mad props to dave michicich for that belch of inspiration)taven was bob, and liu kang was supposed to be miyamoto yo shin soo. yeah, they got the names right for the final product.

Don't forget Mustard and Ketchup! tongue I've actually not minded the names they came up with until Deception. Too many characters in that game sound the same and I'm not sure if it's because they're from the same realm or what (Darrius & Dairou; Kobra, Kira, & Kabal). Just another reason to kill off some of these characters for good. wink

I knew it. Lol jk. Anwyay, I hear Reptile and think of the color green, or dirt brown, Scorpion's name is kind of gay, I mean his powers aren't like a Scorpion's and yellow sure as hell isn't the color of your average scorpion, Mileena and Kitana I found to be beautiful names actually.

Hey that's great. The Johnny Cage thing makes me appreciate both his and Sonya's names.

I never knew Scorpion turned into a scorpian. I didn't even know there were any animalities outside of MK3 besides Liu Kang. (Oops I misspelt that, jerk).

I just haven't seen anywhere that Smoke has "taken upon the name Smoke."

I am thankful and hopefully will not misspell Liu Kang or scorpion again, but the way that you are addressing my errors comes off as abrasive to me because it kind of feels like an attack instead of constructive criticism.

Wow. You didn't get it. OK, I'll explain quickly.

I replied like you did, which obviously means, that I have the same right to express my point of view on the matter as you. And if you can't read somebody's post without feeling educated, getting offended (for no reason) and without offending others (once again, for no reason), then I'm sorry, but you just need to grow up to the discussion.

Scorpion's powers absolutely ARE like a Scorpion. What the hell do you think the spear is? It's a metaphor for a stinging tail, duh.

I know this post and the one above it weren't directed at me, but I can not believe all the obvious similarities to a scorpion that I never noticed with Scorpion (the arm/tail, the spear, and even the colours!). So many similarities, but I guess that is how he got the code name Scorpion.
