Basically, this topic is to discuss the placing of the many male MK "Ninja's" (including the cyber-ninjas) skills on a storyline tier list. In other words it's about listing the Ninjas on order from strongest to weakest based on things we can see in the story storywise. Please give your reasons for your placements. You're able to split a character into as many incarnations as you feel is needed to express their varying skills over the years.

TOP

Noob-Saibot: Was once the top Lin Kuei and has now had wraith powers added to his own skills. MK:A seems tom imply that Sub-Zero would not have been able to handle him had Taven not stepped in.

Grand Master Sub-Zero (MK:DA onwards): Power was greatly increased by the dragon medallion.

Ermac: Made up of the souls of hundreds of warriors so is very likely quite powerful.

High

Spectre Scorpion: Defeated Younger Sub-Zero in MK4. Was defeated by Elder Sub-Zero once, but defeated him in their second (technically third) match.

Elder Sub-Zero (MK1): Top Lin Kuei of his time. Fought and defeated Spectre Scorpion once, defeated the second time.

Younger Sub-Zero (Pre-MK:DA): Strong enough to defeat Sektor, but not as strong as he would be when he got the medallion.

Middle

Sektor: Before becoming a cyborg he was one of the top Lin Kuei. Became even more powerful after being made a cyborg. Seems to have been approached before Younger Sub-Zero or Smoke.

Cyrax: Before becoming a cyborg he was one of the top Lin Kuei. Became even more powerful after being made a cyborg. Seems to have been approached before Younger Sub-Zero or Smoke.

Smoke: Before becoming a cyborg he was one of the top Lin Kuei. Became even more powerful after being made a cyborg. Seems to have been approached after Cyrax and Sektor.

Low

Rain: Apparently high ranking member of Shao Kahn's forces, also fought Taven, though he was defeated.

Living Scorpion: Had none of the abilities that make him so formidable, was able to fight against Elder Sub-Zero, but was defeated.

Younger Sub-Zero (MK2 - MK4): Was defeated by Scorpion in their first match (though this may have been due to Scorpion's experience fighting a similar opponent). Implied to be inferior to his elder brother.

BOTTOM

Human Smoke: Was captured when Sub-Zero managed to escape.

Reptile: I don't think he has ever canonically won a single fight in MK history.

Chameleon: Spent the entire series hiding, so is probably not too powerful.

Cool thread but I'd have to totally disagree with your placements.

I'd say this order:

Ermac
Noob
Scorpion
Subzero
Cyber Smoke
Sector
Rain
Cyrax
Reptile
Smoke (human)

The thing is they all are top tier, Storywise all MK kombatants are, but it comes down to match ups and setting if you want to know who'll beat who. Ever watch naruto?

Example: Noob vs Subzero.

Noob is definately one of the most powerful warriors in MK, let alone, of the bunch listed. As a human, he was one of the original chosen earth warriors, but now as a wraith, his skills and overall ability jumps up conciderably. But put up against sub, he is facing an opponent who knows him in and out (up to a point). Both were original Lin Kuei members and the fact that they grew up together plays a major part.

A match between them would, IMO, most likely end in a stalemate. Noob's offense is like "damn!!" and Sub's defense is top notch, so they more than likely would cancel each other out. And given the fact that Sub wouldn't finish Noob, even if given the chance, the fight would go on until one just gave up.

Like wise, look at this match up, Rain vs Cyber Smoke.

Now, according to my list, it would seem Smoke would have this one in the bag, but...lets look at some facts.

As a human, he was trained by the original Lin Kuei to be an assassin. His conversion into cyber smoke took what he knew and his experience and increased it multiple time over. Also it added things like a more durable body and more offensive power. Smoke's biggest asset however will always be his ability to become smoke.

It is stated that he uses Nanotechnology ,so I think it is safe to assume that in order for cyber smoke to become like smoke, his physical body breaks apart into million, maybe billions of tiny machines enabling him to move and flow like normal smoke would. Also, MKA showed us that he can assume control of other beings but using his nanotech to jack into other things.

Rain on the other hand, is a half god. All Edenians have the blood of the Gods within them, but Rain is the direct decendant of Agus himself. Smuggled into hiding at an early age, he has survived for more than 10,000 years, under Shao Kahn's rule no less, and has emerged a resource full and cunning warrior. His biggest asset in battle is the ability to summon lighting and control water (where ever it might be).

Rain Vs C. Smoke...Fight!!

Smoke, with his mechanically enhanced strength and speed, would easily control the "klose quarters kombat," or at least wear Rain down to where his would be forced to fight from a mid to far distance.

Now, at this distance Rain has the advantage. With his lighting summon and various water attacks, he'd be able to keep smoke at bay and do some heavy damage. Smoke's only solution would be to try and get in close and over whelm Rain, and the only way I see him achieving that goal is to disperse and become Smoke, his ace in the hole.

Rain wins. Wait...what!

Now, someone please prove this wrong but I believe Machines, water, and Electricity still don't mix. With all of Rain's water assaults, some water is bound to get into Smoke and his nanomachines. Coupled with the water in the air, this spells disaster for smoke as one lightning bolt could fry a good majority of his nanotech. Smoke would either have to accept defeat or or continue to fight and more than likely die.

Now these examples are very subjective. What if they were fighting indoors? what if Rain is in an area where access to water is more limited?

In any other cases, the out come of Rain Vs Smoke could probably be different, but like it said, it all about match ups.
