These threads have been done to death and I've searched all over the net to get peoples perspectives on this particular battle.

It seems that Ryu (or street fighter in general) gets the win more often than not (about 60/40) out in internet land, but seeming as I've have never brought this thread up, I just wanted to get an MK fans input on this fight, and see what you guys thought.

Anyway...

IMO, I say Liu wins this fight for little more than one reason. Both are well above average fighters who have accomplished feats beyond that of normal humans. Both have a seemingly limitless potential and both have a determination that allows them to persevere through the toughest of battles, but Liu has something Ryu seems to be forever chasing...

Clarity.

Liu Kang has been trained by the best Shaolin, the greatest master in Outworld, AND the Thunder God Raiden. There is know doubt he has mastered himself and is ready for any fight.

He has proven this by defeating Tsung, someone who can read a soul like and open book, and by beating Kahn, which is really where he showed his true fighting prowess. Liu Kang knows himself inside and out.

Somehow he even bested a fallen elder god, but since there are no details of that fight I can't really say much about that.

Ryu, on the other hand, is a wandering warrior, out to perfect his art and overcome the darkness with in himself. He too has trained with the best, and fought against some of the best, but according to the info I've gathered, even though he has overcome it once, he still struggles with his darkness and has fallen back into the muck that lays within him over and over again. It seems to keep him down, and hold him back from truly reaching his full potential.

Fighting Liu Kang, someone with seemingly the same fighting potential as Ryu, I can see this as being a big obstacle. Ryu would have to come up to Liu's level, which he can, but be able to keep control. I can't see Ryu tapping into the dark Hadou and beating Liu in a one hit KO like he did Sagat. Or even temporarily overcoming his shortcomings to take down Liu Kang.

The way I see it, Ryu would need to have truly mastered his art AND be wholly focused on the goal of defeating Liu Kang in order to be victorious in this fight.

According to the MvC3 strategy guide Ryu's stats are all really high in each category. My understanding is that the dark hadou, is a virtually unstoppable force in the physical realm.
