As you can planely quess, he is my favorite charecter. I like his storyline, exspecily in MKDA, because that proves that hes not some jeaulous suck-up like in MKSM. He is an honerable person, and he would do perfect if he where in MK1. Then midway ruined him by giving him his MKA ending. If he dose come back, i will be very happy, but if he does, he better not have his MKA/SM pensonalityfurious

Kung Lao is one of my favorite characters. I think he gravitates to me with his look, moves, personality, things like that. And of course, I gotta love the hat. wink

He hasn't really done that much in terms of the story. He's more of a secondary character since he doesn't have enough going in his story for him to have his own sub-plot. Even so, I like how he's different, yet similar to Liu Kang. While Liu Kang willingly chose to represent the Shaolin in Shang Tsung's Mortal Kombat tournament, Kung Lao refused as he didn't want to deal with responsibilities of being Champion, along with all its consequences. I prefer the classic "reluctant hero" Kung Lao as opposed to the "jealous" Kung Lao from MKSM. I don't how it was good for his character to be changed like that, but also, I liked the contrast of Liu Kang and Kung Lao when Kung Lao was his reluctant hero self.

In MK3, he didn't really do anything significant, though the significant thing in his story was that he was thought to have been slain by Shao Kahn, thus enraging Liu Kang and leading to Kahn's defeat.

In MK4, his story seemed to have him by himself and not really aiding the others. I liked the development of him and Goro making peace.

With MKDA and Liu Kang's death, it seemed like they were setting up Kung Lao to become the new leader of the heroes, which would've been interesting considering that Kung Lao was a reluctant hero and would be stepping up to take on a new responsibility.

However, in a shocking twist, he and the other heroes, excluding Sub-Zero, Frost, and Raiden, were all slain by the Deadly Alliance and their Tarkatan army.

While some did not like this as it hinders Kung Lao's step to becoming the new main hero, I think it was a good idea as it gives a victory to the villains for a change. Also, this would make Kung Lao more reluctant and make him lose confidence in himself. So with the events after MKD and in MKA, his story could involve his rebound back into a stronger and wiser warrior.

With Goro returned to Shao Kahn's side, I would like to see a showdown between him and Kung Lao. I know there are some who want to see a battle between Johnny Cage and Goro, but despite all the media bits, it still doesn't make sense in terms of the actual story. Defeating Goro should be as a means of restoring his self-confidence.

After Armageddon, I think he should live but not be a playable character in the future.

Gameplay-wise, Kung Lao has been quite good in most of the games he's been in. There are only a couple of games in which he has been decent.

I think both Qi Xing Tanglang Quan (Seven Star Praying Mantis) and Shaolin Chuan (Small Forest Fist) both fit him. I do have to wonder which Shaolin style they are referring to as Shaolin Fist can refer to many different Shaolin styles. The Dao (Broadsword) is a fitting weapon. Some want him to use his hat as his weapon style, but I don't think that's a great idea.

Then we have his special moves. He has his teleport, hat throw and hat toss, whirlwind spin, dive kick, etc. etc. He has cool specials.

For his costumes, I think the idea behind them is that they wanted to do something new-looking but stick to a familiar look for him, which I think works in his case. I like his MK2, MKDA alt/MKA primary/MKSM costumes the most.

Overall, Kung Lao is a cool character and I feel he needs to live and retire.

i love Kung, defnitely cooler than Liu. I think Kung was pused aside so Liu could always take the spotilight, i was glad in MKDA when he was the main hero.

I always liked Kung Lao. Always thought he was much cooler than Liu Kang. Not even just in story, but in moves and just the way he was portrayed. His victory poses, fighting style, and so on. I also remember he had the craziest throws in MK2 and MK3. Liked his looks (although his MK:DA primary seemed out of place IMO...didn't look like him anymore)and fatalities. He was just a bad ass character.

Like many others, what struck me about Kung Lao story-wise was that he was a reluctant hero. He didn't enter the first tournament...even though he would've seemed like the obvious choice. He let people think he was dead after MK3 and tried to retire. Again and again, we see he only fights when he has, too.

I was hoping with Liu Kang's death in MK:DA, we would see the beginning of Kung Lao becoming the new "main hero." Would've been interesting since he always tried to avoid it and I think he would've made a better "main hero" or at least main Shaolin monk than Liu Kang...whom I always found bland and boring.

They seemingly screwed him over though in Deception by revealing he lost, was killed, enslaved, and possibly punked out by Ermac...while Shujinko was given both his fighting styles and touted as the "next generation Liu Kang." Seemed like Kung Lao was given the shaft.

Fortunately, Shujinko turned out to be a bust, so this can be salvaged by having Kung Lao sees his defeat and death at Shang Tsung's hands as confirmation that he isn't worthy Champion and not fit to be the new lead hero. Hopefully in Armageddon we'll see something like that happen with Kung Lao and he'll finally prove himself as a hero.

Unfortunately, we have to take his "jerk-ass" persona introduced in Shaolin Monks into consideration. I hated what they did to Kung Lao. The first and most obvious reason...that's not the Kung Lao I know. That's not the Kung Lao that was established in the storyline that became one of my favorite characters. Total opposite of him in actuality.

What also bothered me was how cliche it was. I mean okay, in Shaolin Monks they wanted create some kind of conflict between Liu Kang and Kung Lao to make the story interesting. That's cool, because it'd be dull if you had two characters who acted the same and got along together perfectly. I'm all for the idea that heroes don't always get along and maybe when Liu & Lao first met they might not have liked each other and had to earn each other's friendship.

But rather than develope the personlity Kung Lao already had as a "reluctant hero" and try to create a conflict out of that...which I think might've been more interesting....they instead disregarded everything that was established about him and replaced it with the easiest, most obvious, cliched, typical archetype you could've used to contrast Liu Kang: "the hothead."
Made worse by the fact their "rivalry" was presented as totally immature and childish. These are supposed to be disciplined Shaolin monk warriors, yet the bicker like a couple of ten years olds.

But Shaolin Monks is pretty much non-canon...so who cares, right? Unfortunately, Kung Lao's Armageddon ending suggests that at the least his jerkass persona might actually be canon. Yeesh.
Hopefully, when Kung Lao's bio is released they'll ignore or downplay any supposed "rivalry" he's had with Liu Kang and we can just add the ending to rest of the bullshit pile.

Kung Lao's been a long time favorite and I hope if Armageddon is his last game, they do him justice. I'll be pissed if yet another character I like is horribly tainted by poorly thought out retcons.

Kung Lao is my favourite MK character, i love him in every single incarnation he have. he is a very silent person (as myself), very intelligent and peacefull, and will probably never start a fight for no reason. an honorable person, a great man, who is calm as water, but in the very next moment can explode and unleash a great fighting skill. i am sorry for the fact that he did not appeared in any MK movie, he is one of the main characters!!! should have appeared in mk annihilation. kitana did not appeared in the game mk1 and showed up in mk 1 movie, kung lao should have been the same. well, but we can see his great ancestor in Mortal Kombat Conquest, he is not the same man, but they are personally similar, very calm and peacefull, that would never start a fight. and Kung Lao's costume in MK DA was awesome, MK 3's one was great too. i sencirely hope that Kung Lao can survive the Armageddon, and show up in future games, and MOVIES!!

LONG LIVE KUNG LAO!! (his name is just amazing, i love the way it sounds..)

Im glad Kung Lao was givin' his teleport abilities in the old mk's. Its a simple attack, but there are times where people are caught off guard by it.

Obviously I like kung lao, But i think it takes more skill to be kung lao then most of the other characters. Like for example, in mk 2 i would be fighting my cousin( who would always be liu kang)I would block a couple move and then he would just shoot fire balls ( low and high)and give me a flying kick all the time, andif i always block my energy would go downn any ways, but that was when i was like ten, but you guys see what i mean.Thats why games ranging from mkda to mka are good. they take some more skill to land combos...not just freezing the guy and just giving him uppercuts.

I definatly like Kung Lao.

He is so cool and calm. I actually really like his Mortal Kombat DA primary out fit the most. it gives him sort of this peacful traveling warrior when he needs to be type fill. And I like his Mortal Kombat 2 look as well. There's just this strong yet calm minded esscence about him definatly one of my favorites.

Kung Lao is my favourite character (my username was used when I liked Sorpion). He may not have similar moves to Liu Kang but still he has moves like Tornado or the famous Hat Throw. Also I must point out that after MK4 (that Liu Kang dies at Tanya's Ending) Kung Lao is somehow the leader of the Good and thats something that made him one of the greatest warriors in history of MK

kung lao is one of my favourite characters too. I always thought his hat made him look the beez neez when i first played MKII (i was a kid then ye, but so where most people who played).

I have to admit though i didn't like him in MKSM, and i don't like him in the comic books either (non canon). One thing you should be aware of MKSM isn't a canon game either - it was just for fun. I personally found the game very entertaining - but in all honesty the story, the voice acting and the graphics where a pile of poo.

To me though - Kung Lao is the underling of Liu Kang. Liu Kang is easily the "mature" one of the 2, and definately the "leader". And since Liu kang is dead - and there are chances he won't make it into the new MK i am really eager to see how Kung Laos storywill unfold. Will he become the next liu kang type character (the leader) and win Mortal Kombat? or will he remain an underling for the rest of the series. A part of me wishes he becomes the next champion of Mortal Kombat. But by doing this it would mean that Liu Kang can't be in the game - or something really needs to go down on liu kang street.

great character with great skills, and i really liked him in mk konquest, his character was perfect, showed an accurate status of kung lao and fought well, a strong warrior. in the games though im not a fan of his outfits. i think they could do better. other than that hes awesome, hes a very effective character with unique and talented, well thought, moves and specials. he can be really hard to defeat playing against him in arcade modefurious
