First off, before I start my rant. I'm a huge Sektor fan. I know this will sound a little bitter, but, I digress. My main question here is why is Cyrax more popular than Sektor? I don't really get it because they both debuted in MK 3 and it is mostly just the same character, just with different special moves. It seems that the MK team favors Cyrax more than Sektor because he has been in more games. Sektor was mentioned in Deadly Alliance, but didn't show up until the game boy version. So, my question I'm asking is..Why do you think Cyrax is more popular than Sektor?

Easy. Actual character development, more versatile weaponry aside standard explosives, more diverse gameplay.

To be more precise, Cyrax is the active character, Sektor is a foil to be overcome by Cyraxor Sub-Zero. He doesn't get development as he is merely a part of someone else's arc.

I favor Sektor over Cyrax.

If we were to get one of the two, I would want Sektor. Who knows, they might and could put them together like they did Noob and Smoke in MKD.

While Cyrax is a kool kat, and has a more developed story/history than Sektor, I prefer Sektor for 3 main reasons:

- I prefer his colour scheme and design progression over the years.
- I love things that fire rockets, mount flamethrowers and smash through competition via direct frontal heavy ordinance. I don't want the sniper rifle, just gimmie the grenade launcher thank-you very much.
- He actively embraces his technology, and of the 2, I could see him adding improvements to himself in future instalments, while Cyrax just wants to be a normal dude again.

I think Cyrax steals the limelight more often because he has traits that people can more positively relate to (eg. resisting authority, being a generally nice guy). You even feel sorry for him (at least I did) in the MK2 part of MK9's story mode when you see his humanity stripped from him upon encountering Subbie at the Soul Chamber. Sektor's 'DESTROY! DESTROY' attitude probably makes him too one-dimensional for most folk.

Unfortunately I got this uneasy feeling both of the ninja cyborgs will be taking a back seat in MKX... Hopefully this feelin' is disproved!

MK3 was the first time Scorpion wasn't in a game and Cyrax had the net, which worked like Scorpion's spear.

The fact that from there, Cyrax continued to be put in more games and given more story than Sektor did kept it going, but that's where it all started.

Yeah most of the reasons listed above probably sum it up. They have always been about even for me though. I hope one day Sektor can get some shine though, I think he has just as much potential as Cyrax.

I think after MK9, Sektor's become the more popular of the two. Cyrax was more favored in the pro/tourney scene, sure, but nobody seems to care about him as a character anymore whereas everyone wants to see more Sektor in future games.

the name first off really brings people in plus cyrax's skills were more significant than sektors, same as smoke. sektor really seems more of a typical robot than unique machanic warrior with unique special abilitiesfurious

They both had strong development. Cyrax reclaimed his humanity thanks to IOA and joined them; Sektor was defeated by SubZ, so he started his own new clan.
Fuck knows where the reboot story will take them.

I believe Cyrax got more character development than Sektor because Cryax was the good one and who wanted his humanity back unlike Sektor was perfectly fine with have no humanity.

Prior to LK-4D4 and LK-9T9 officially being recognized, when programing and testing, they was given the aliases Ketchup and Mustard by the creators. I earnestly question whether this was there genuine names when they served there original cliques in a previous life. Cyrax went from Lin Kuei to the OIA over a period of decades and with Cyrax I really saw aspects of early Robocop, so it would surprise me if some ideas for him did not come from that film.

Sektor, boss of the Tekunin was depicted as a black man (before becoming a cyborg) in MK Defenders of the realm, but when he was ordinary in MK9 and seen elsewhere Sektor was actually oriental. Sektor visually has close characteristics to that of masked Predator (the feature film). Each have abilities to invisibly disguise themselves also, which is why they share similarities.

"Ketchup" and "Mustard" were placeholder names the Midway devs were using during production of MK3, while they were still brainstorming real names for the characters, they were never used in canon.

They also called Sindel and Kabal "Muchacha" and "Sandman".

but Sektor STILL HAD character development. His personality trait of power-hunger has not changed, his motivation has not changed, but his actions that were driven BY his personality led to development into the leader of Tekunin, (and later that whole BS part of armageddon when he kidnapped Taven for information). He's a single-minded villain but that isn't the same as having no progression.

In my opinion all of Armageddon was BS but that's for another thread.

Sektor did have character development with the Tekunin I agree with you on that but Sektor just seemed to an after thought to Cyrax in the original teamline.
