Can Shang Tsung just take your soul straight out of your body no matter what, or can you resist it? If he was able to just rip it out, you'd think he'd have easily beaten Liu Kang years ago. In MK Conquest they had Kung Lao concentrate and use his willpower to fight it. Maybe with ordinary people he can just pull it out, but with a champion of earthrealm, their spirit is too strong and they have to be killed/weakened first?

Someone should ask Boon (or Tobias) about this.

He can systematically drain you of it, example in MKDA and MKA. I presume physical fittness can play a role in this. Would explain why can his Soul Drain kill you on danger and why he has it as a fatality.
