I'm baffled that nobody's pick up on this story (and if they have I haven't seen it), but ex-Midway concept artist Vincent Proce has posted several pictures of concept art from the much-clamored-for "dark and gritty" Mortal Kombat re-imagining on his personal blog: Concept art

I'm fond of all of the designs, except Sonya's from the waist done (put some pants on, girl), but I'm really sad to see that this idea was rejected (supposedly in favor of making a game including the likes of Captain Marvel and Lex Luthor).

Still, as MK fans, these sort of concept pics I think are fantastic and I hope that whatever MK game rises from the ashes of the Warner Bros. acquision bares resemblance to these ideas.

This was actually covered here on MKO.
Scroll all the way down.

Pretty pictures, but at this point, I am so sick of recycled-MK1 garbage that I feel nothing but indifference tinged with contempt.

Thanks alot for the clarification. I appreciate it.

And, yes, I agree we should probably stop looking back on MK with such nostalgia-tinted glasses.

I always find it humorous when artists use the "It distracts her enemies" excuse when making scantly clad women for sex appeal.

Because you're one of those who would be distracted? Lol

But getting back... HEY, a reboot, what we really needed after all this time. Ha!

If any rebooting needs to be done, it should be Oddworld. Now THAT is a fucking ass game to play.

Man Oddworld is awesome.

I wouldn't be opposed to a "reboot" but who is going to get excited about 7-10 playable characters nowadays?

I'd prefer a sort of MK All Stars game to be honest.

The problem with a reboot, of course, is the canon is perfect the way it is. Anything they change would be for the worse.

The only reason to go backward is to add in retcons from later games, like changing MK1 Raiden's bio and ending so he's the Protector of Earth, not a neutral asshole who eventually gets bored and destroys the world. That way the early games will match up seamlessly to Deadly Alliance and Deception.
And I wouldn't want any such remakes to be the ONE big MK game they release every two years. I'd want them to be a SIDE project. Make MK9 first, then take MK9's engine and use it to remake 1-4 with better costumes and updated bios, and put the 4 remakes in a compilation.
So I guess in summary, what I believe is MK does not need to start over, it just needs a little cleaning up.
Also, as an artist, I have problems with Proce's designs, which I already addressed in the original topic. Mainly, my issue is that the chitinous armor on Scorpion's arms and belt looks hideous, Raiden's hat is taking the Big Trouble in Little China likeness too far, and Sonya and Kano look too medieval. Not to seem like a shameless self-promoter, but just as an example of what I think would be a better direction to go in, you can see my own idea of how the characters in MK1 should be dressed in a thread in the Fan Submission forum. Of course, my art style isn't that realistic painted look.
