The 2D MK9 is a great game, but few fight simulators (any franchise) are as dynamic as MK5. Special moves in that game exposed you to attack, so at the highest level of play it was 100% martial arts. Specials were actually special. And sidestep...

Perhaps MK10 will explore the 3D engine (the MK5 one) giving us two games which overlap styles. If such a sequal was upkept alongside of MK10, the end result would be the gamer's option of all characters in either 2D (lots of jumps and specials) or 3D (more technical and dynamic). I feel I would probably play both games this way, instead of dropping 9 when 10 came out.
