Baiting the CPU in MK2

I used to kick ass at this game, but all of a sudden I forgot how to do it, and my best character used to be Sub-Zero, now he's my worst.

Is there anyway to bait the CPU into falling for a freeze?

I think the best way is to jump backwards and they should follow you by jumping forwards. That's when you should freeze them. As they are jumping towards you once you have landed.
