Anybody move up or down? I'm guessing that Sektor and Mileena moved up and Kung Lao is still at the top.

Found one: http://testyourmight.com/forum/showthread.php?3075-Mortal-Kombat-%282011%29-Matchup-Chart

It looks like Sektor is better than people give him credit for, Quan Chi needs some serious buffs and Kung Lao needs at least a few nerfs.

A matchup chart is effectively a tier list. The total number in the last column is the character's rank. It's just that the chart is organized alphabetically instead of by rank #. So, for instance, if you reshuffle it Raiden would be #1, Kung Lao #2, Reptile #3, and so on.

If this chart is accurate (which this early in the game it probably will evolve over time) then nobody needs any nerfs. A few buffs here and there for some of the bottom characters like Quan, Sheeva, and Baraka but otherwise the game is amazingly well balanced. Notice that the vast majority are 4s, 5s, and 6s. That's exactly where you want to be. The handful of 3s and 7s is the extent of whatever imbalances there are. And most of them aren't because the good characters are too strong but rather because the weaker characters lack some tools they need to get into that 6/4 range.

I have a very hard time believing Smoke loses to Sub 4-6. He can completely shut down Sub's zoning game with his cloud and Enhanced Invisibility. Hell, Aris's Smoke took down Tom Brady's Sub-Zero Evo. Not calling that definitive proof or anything, but freakin' still.

Top & bottom of the list looks to be a fair ballpark with some adjustments IMO, plus it was prior to release, and any patches.

Now that I see it you're right, it's still a joke, but guys didn't were so far from the real one.

This is what the match up chart at TYM says at the moment:

01. Raiden 156
02. Kung Lao 155
03. Reptile 148
04. Kitana 144
05. Kabal 143
06. Cyber Sub-Zero 140
06. Cyrax 140
08. Johnny Cage 139
08. Nightwolf 139
08. Sub-Zero 139
11. Kano 138
12. Mileena 137
13. Noob Saibot 135
14. Smoke 133
15. Jade 131
16. Sektor 129
17. Shang Tsung 127
18. Liu Kang 125
19. Scorpion 123
20. Ermac 122
21. Stryker 120
22. Sonya 119
23. Sindel 111
24. Jax 109
25. Baraka 108
26. Quan Chi 105
27. Sheeva 95

*NOTE: an update is apparently in the works that will change the chart slightly

And this is REO's personal tier list dated August 16th 2011:

Top Tier:
Kung Lao, Cyrax, Reptile, Raiden, Kabal, Kitana

Upper Mid Tier: (in no particular order)
Nightwolf, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Sektor, Liu Kang, Kano, Mileena, Skarlet

Mid Tier:
Smoke, Cyber Sub-Zero, Ermac, Noob, Sonya, Shang Tsung, Scorpion

Lower Mid Tier: (in no particular order)
Jax, Jade, Sindel, Quan Chi, Baraka

Bottom Tier: (in no particular order)
Sheeva, Stryker

I'd go with REO for now.

I posted Reo's list a while back along with Tom's one which I will put below again. Just a couple of things that bother me with that matchup list. How the hell is Jade so high? A lot higher than guys who have gotten good results. Lui Kang for example. He has had a great and very consistent showing in tournaments. Not many wins but certainly been right up there on most occasions. (Two of him in EVO top 8 for example)

The more I think about it, the more I agree with Brady's list. A LOT of guys are pretty even in this game and that's awesome to see. Variety of characters in most top 8's confirm that. Pretty much everyone has featured at some stage.

Brady: (Comment at bottom was his)

S tier:
kl, raiden, shang, nw, cage, ermac, cyrax, cyber sub, sub, kitana

A+ tier:
kano, sindel, scorpion, liu kang, mileena, reptile, noob, sonya, kabal

A tier:
jade, smoke, sektor, stryker, jax, baraka, sheeva, quan chi

thats right, as of right now tweaks made it so there are NO bad characters. full patch buffs some characters as well, its gonna be a game with all characters having some dirt...

I think Brady's list is before the patch 1.03 came out, I could be wrong though. But no way in hell is Sindel an A+ tier character. Kabal also not top tier?

I really think REO's is much more accurate.

I've played with Jade this summer a bit. She's not bad. I'm not saying she's great, but she's not bad. With meter, she can be really dirty with her enhanced glow which pretty much says "Fuck off" to the opponent and her enhanced boomerang can be used for some nice resets that lead up to 40% damage. Her normal glow should be spammed as much as possible and some of her normal moves have great range (like u+3).

Yeah sorry, what I meant was I agree with him that there are only about three tiers and no real bad characters. The individual placements of characters are not exactly as I would have them. Kabal def in top for me. Sindel I don't know enough about to make a call. Reptile should be higher.
I will assume he has them in no particular order though.

(He did this tier with the latest patch in mind I believe)

I like Reo's list. I would maybe drop the bottom tier and put Stryker and Sheeva in with Baraka and the others. Sheeva has some juice. The frame trap off blocked command grab is pretty nasty and she hits hard. I could see her being better than Jade or Sindel.

^ Interesting comment on Sheeva. It seems like Jade is the biggest mystery at the moment, some say she's really good, others don't see much in her.

From my experience the top 5 tier list is as follows:

1. Kung Lao
2. Reptile
3. Kitana
4. Mileena
5. Sonya and/or Kabal

Those are the characters that are the best in the game. Raiden and Kano come close, but the characters above simply have an edge over the others. I am unconvinced by any other list.

I'm just kind of surprised that there aren't more Raiden players on the tourney scene, especially since he always gets mentioned as one of the best (pretty much right next to Kung Lao) in the game.

The only ones I know of are JOP and Justin Wong. I'm not sure if they play anymore now that Evo is behind us. I love to watch JOP play, enjoyed his Raiden and Cage at Evo.
