So I'm sure by now we're all familiar with the Kombat code 1,1,1+1,1,1, right? I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not.

I was watching a ton of evo matches and I noticed that it was never used, I would have though it would be a constant fixture for those matches.

I'm not complaining or anything, just curious and a bit perplexed as to why it wasn't used much if at all during the tournament, many announcers mentioned people getting the first hit bonus and automatic breaker, but no talk of utilizing this code.

I wonder, if it's not used at official tournaments, especially one as prestigious as EVO, is it commonly used by the community at large?

I personally use it from time to time, but most of the time I prefer classic music, so I avoid it.

Anyways, I think they just didn't really matter really. I don't know for sure. I believe I've seen them do the code maybe once or twice during EVO, but I could be wrong.

I honestly haven't the slightest clue amigo.

Think there's a related thread here(For the Kombat Kode part)

I know, that's not what my thread is about, it's about the lack of use at EVO, I was just perplexed because tournament mode was not used a ton at EVO..which struck me as odd because of how prestigious a tourney EVO is.

That's the thing, I might have saw it a few times as well, but it wasn't like the majority of people used it, it was like kind of a here and there type of deal.

Perhaps they had a rule of no Kombat codes? If that's the case I can understand that, but that wouldn't explain some people still using them, I'm so confused lol.

It's no biggie, but it's just something I'm curious about, thanks for sharing your observations.

I'm pretty sure that no big tournament would allow any codes.

And could someone please tell me what this code even does? Clearly I have never used a code before.

Thank you. I actually just saw the other thread about this same topic below, DOH!

I actually like the first hit bonus, makes the start that much more frantic, kinda like a standoff, cowboy style (or something like that, lol)

This code is different, it's made specifically for tournament play, hence its namesake, it's not like most of the codes like Unlimited super meter or armless combat.

it disables foreground objects, like those cars that block your view during a fight, it disables the first hit breaker meter bonus, and it disables the toasty bonus.

Because it disables the first hit bonus, which has a drastic effect on gameplay. It's an interesting and fair mechanic, there is no reason to disable it.

I asked a NRS guy about this at a tournament once. They said before the game was out they were afraid the first hit bonus may be controversial among tournament players so they disabled it with that code. Turns out it wasn't so everyone ignores the code.

Thank you for your explanation, I just wanted to know the reasoning behind it not being used, much appreciated:)

I wasn't saying it wasn't fair, merely that I wasn't sure as to why it wasn't used.

But yeah, thanks so much for answering my question.

Yeah, generally speaking the "tourney crowd" takes a hands off approach. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Since the default system is perfectly fine there isn't a reason to screw with it at all.

You know what; The first time a Toasty boost decides a important match people will be bitching and moaning and this code will probably be used. I wish there was a code that disabled that and the foreground stuff but left first hit bonus.)
