Record Attendance as Competitors Duel for over $100,000 at the Evo 2012 World Finals

The 2012 EVO World Finals will host a record number of competitors and attendees hailing from over 40 countries, as thousands assemble to compete for championships across today’s hottest fighting games.
Thanks to generous support for the community from our sponsors, we’re pleased to announce record prizes, including $23,000 for Mortal Kombat, $15,000 for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, and more!
“With Capcom celebrating its 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter this year, we thought it fitting that Evo’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 competitors should play for $25,000,” said Christian Svensson, Senior Vice President at Capcom. ”Capcom wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of our hardcore fans, and this is just the first of many exciting opportunities to help celebrate this milestone for the Street Fighter franchise.”
Here are the prize pools for all of the Evo 2012 tournaments. All these tournaments will pay out to the top 8 finishers.
$25,000 Super Street Fighter IV, Arcade Edition 2012

Oh wow, these look really nice. Are these brackets subject to change maybe? [EDIT: Yes they are and they will change, just found out.] I've heard that seeding pts weren't processed correctly.

But for now...

Holy f***ing shiet!!!

Perfect Legend vs Morty Seinfeld in round 1 (Pool H19)!!! wow

GGA Dizzy vs EGP Tyrant in a very likely round 2 (Pool H20)! BOOM!

Good thing m2dave ended in pool I18 as unseeded where no other big names are, he's to watch out for!

Pool I19 is interesting with GGA 16-bit and Noobe leading the way. Chilean Evo Qualifier champion LAD Lurker is a possible round 2 match for 16-bit. There's a Japanese player there too, interesting, and DanCock. Not an easy group.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! CD Jr., UsedForGlue, F0xy Grampa, Flawedzilla and GOL Eklectic are all in the same pool (J17)! That sucks, these are all great players! sad

Pool J20, VSM Maxter and Mustard could meet in the final if they beat everyone. Cyrax mirror of the century coming up?! KT Smith is in the same pool though, watch out Mustard he's in your half!

Pool K17: Pig of the Hut vs Master D in a very likely round 2 match, oops! TemperaryUserName is here as well, GOOD LUCK TEMP! Justin Wong is in there too.

Pool K20: How can two seeded players play in round 1 against each other?! Ketchup is here!

Goosebumps are already running through my whole body!

EDIT: Atm, CURBOLICOUS is in pool K19 with Denzell Terry aka DJT.

Sounds very exciting. It is too bad I most likely will not be able to watch this live.

m2dave, the Freddy Master! That's someone I'd want to watch!

A F0xy Grampa will win it for the UK - he is easily the best MK9 player in the world.

How can you say that when he has never played (offline) against the likes of CD Jr., REO, DetroitBalln and Perfect Legend?

I mean, I expect him to go far and it'd be super hype if he won it, but lets wait and see who ends up the best in the world.

I've seen enough of him to know he's the best. The others you mention are over-rated.
Jet lag will be an issue though. All the UK guys have to fly in and pretty much start competing immediately - no time to acclimatise to the new time zone. Eight hours difference.
That could cost them.

Overrated? I disagree.

We'll see. I myself am from Europe and I definitely wouldn't mind someone from UK to win it. It'd be insane to beat Americans at their own game on their own territory.

F0xy is my pick. You pick one then and we will see who gets closest to winner.

Oh God. It's so hard to pick one, but I'm going to go with REO. I just think he's going to profit from last year's experience and win it this time. I think he's going to go Kabal for most of the matches and have Kenshi as a back-up.

If it were any other tourney I would have picked CD Jr., but it's going to be his first Evo so I'm not sure how is he going to handle it.

I'm cheering for my Kitana players though and all the GGA guys!

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
And Temp, of course!

This is what happened last time REO met F0xy.

Yes, it was online, yes online is not the same as offline, but the same thing will happen if they meet at Evo.

@PrinceRegent: I saw that match when REO uploaded it. I don't take that too seriously though, those are just casual matches and then REO is famous for trollin' so who knows hows how indicative those matches are. Besides, F0xy could lose to someone else, not necessarily REO.

I think both, F0xy and UsedForGlue could go very far, but I just see the best of US guys as slight favorites, that's it. Not sure about Mustard and Ketchup, but I'm not writing them off either.

REO has a habit of giving off a troll vibe when he's beaing beaten and over-matched and is clearly going to lose. He does it offline at tournaments too. There was one where he resorted to trying to baby someone so he had an excuse for losing.

If he loses at Evo there will be no excuses and no attempts to claim he was trolling. He will have just lost.

First post updated with entrant numbers.

I think you're being too harsh on the US guys. We'll see, we'll see.

REO
CD Jr.
Perfect Legend
DetroitBalln
Pig of the Hut
1 UK guy (F0xy or Glue)
1 GGA guy (Wafflez, Dizzy or 16-bit)
1 of the other two Dominican bros (more likely Maxter)

are my current pics for Top 8 (no particular order, except REO as #1). I feel bad for leaving out DJT and m2dave. I don't think CURBO is going to make it, we'll see.

With that said, I'm off to bed. Cheers! smile

Not being harsh, just pointing out what he does.

The North Americans live in a bubble playing only against themselves regularly. It would be better for the scene if everyone in the world played at every major but they can't.

Also it would be better if there was a large number of Japanese players as well in the MK scene.

If that was the case, many of the people you mention simply wouldn't rank as highly in tournaments.

Sadly, Evo is the only tournament where Europeans turn up and none of the high level Japanese players are interested in MK (although I think there is one Japanese guy at Evo).

They changed some of the pools, here's my prediction:

H17: REO (W) & GGA Han (L)
H18: GGA Wafflez (W) & Lamg (L) *Lamg is from Brazil, let's go internationals!
H19: EMP Perfect Legend (W) & VIDA (L) *I left Morty Seinfeld out, sorry Morty!
H20: EGP Tyrant (W) & GGA Dizzy (L)
H21: EGP KrayzieBone (W) & GGA Medina (L)
I17: KN DetroitBalln (W) & UsedForGlue (L) *Sorry PBoardPlayer!
I18: m2dave (W) & Citizen Kano (L) * m2dave is a given, the rest is open.
I19: GGA 16-bit (W) & Noobe (L) *Sorry Lurker and WoundCowboy.
I20: FC NY Chris G (W) & Chaosphere (L) *2nd spot is pretty open though.
I21: IGL MIT (W) & Christian Quiles aka Forever King (L)
J17: F0xy Grampa (W) & vVv CD Jr. (L) *Sorry GOL Eklectic & Flawedzilla!
J18: EMP Tom Brady (W) & BA W1nterWarz (L) *2nd spot pretty open though!
J19: KN Crazy Dominican (W) & GGA Jeremiah (L)
J20: VSM Maxter (W) & Ninj (L) *Sorry Mustard & KT Smith, Skarlet shocker!
J21: EGP Xblades (W) & WonderChef Blackula (L)
K17: Pig Of The Hut (W) & GGA Fill Pops (L) *Sorry Temp & Justin Wong!
K18: STB Shujinkydink (W) & GGA soonk (L) *Not sure if the GGA guy is soonk.
K19: IGL DJT (W) & Dominic Curbelo aka CURBOLICOUS (L)
K20: Ketchup (W) & Master D (L) *Cat is not going.

* If the Chilean guy in poll K18 is ETC McFly then I'm choosing him over GGA soonk. Again, I'm not sure if the GGA guy is soonk, but I'm assuming he is since he's got Evo pts.

EDIT: These are just my predictions, not necessarily the guys I'll be cheering for. For example, in group J20 I'll be cheering for Mustard and in group K17 for Temp . wink

EDIT II: Oh shiet, just realized BW1zz is also in pool I19. However, I'm still sticking to 16-bit and Noobe to make it out of that pool. I also didn't realize Blackula was in pool J21, I'm taking him over WonderChef to advance in losers. Also, just noticed Marvaz is in pool K20, but I'm still going with Ketchup and Master D.

Thanks for all the support, guys. I'll be honest: I haven't been practicing. I'll play MK for a couple of hours a week if I'm lucky. Life has been so crazy these days. I'm actually quitting my job soon because I can't do the hours anymore (and although the pay isn't terrible, we deserve so much more given the work). The plan was to train hard during the spring months, but unfortunately, crisis hit my family. Hard.

The good news is that my family problems have reached a happy conclusion, but it's too late to do any lab-work with my MK skills. Me and the locals are going to have intense training sessions Saturday and Tuesday, and I'll put 100% of the time into sharpening my fundamentals.

I'm nervous as hell about my pool, but I respect the hell out of the players in it. Pig is one of the strongest talents in the scene, and Justin Wong has been one of my heroes for years. Thank you again guys for the best wishes.

Thanks, bro. smile And no worries about the predictions, lol. I completely agree with you (though I still think Wong has some of that super-saiyan potential inside him). You guys will be in my thoughts when my match comes. smile

Thanks! So, how do you feel about your pool?

--- --- ---

The biggest problem for me is the massive 9 hours difference in time zones between Vegas and my place. sad

-> I'll be able to watch the finals live with no problem since they're scheduled for a 1 PM start on Sunday (10 PM my time).

-> The UKvsUS starts at 8 PM Friday, local time (5 AM Saturday, my time). I'm dying to see this one live. I think I'll go to bed early on Friday night and then get up at 5 AM to watch it. I've done similar stuff before when I was dying to see certain tennis matches from US Open and Australian Open.

-> Pools QF/SF are scheduled on Saturday from 4 PM until 10 PM local time. That's Sunday for me, 1 AM through 7 AM lol. This is the trickiest part for me as it really falls into the time interval when I'm supposed to be in bed. What to do? What to do?

I'm not sure about my pool. Lurker is a big unknown and that always makes me nervous. I've never played Noobe. Wound Cowboy is really solid. We played a set of casuals at MLG, I won more than I lost but it wasn't enough that I can be sure I'd win in tournament. I don't know, I'm glad I have no elite level killers but it's not a free pool by any means.

LOL sorry. I tried to spice it up a bit. That's why I put F0xy in W and CD Jr. in L, eliminated Morty (since his 1st round is PL it's going to be very hard to win all the matches in the losers bracket, that is if he loses to PL) and picked Ninj over Mustard and KT Smith. ^_^

Input from Slips might help prepare for Noobe, I'm sure he is still salty from the Final Round loss. tongue

It's going to be very interesting to see how those South American players perform.

So who is not going? If I'm not mistaken these are certainly not going: Slips, Cat, IKizzLE, Kevo, Mr. Mileena and Sawnik Fawx.

What about Big D, Zaf and Showtime?
