Hi,
It's a tournament announcement for Europe's largest console based fighting game tournament, the World Game Cup
But the site refuses everything I try: BBcode, HTML and plain text formatting, everything ends up as a mush of text...

Fixed the formatting, it takes some time to get used to. The site runs on HTML code, but once you make a post and the spacing doesn't turn out right, you have to enter the spacing code manually, which is (br/), but one substitutes the "()" with "<>".
Anyway, this looks very interesting, hopefully MK makes it in!

Interesting.

Cannes is not that far from where I live and if MK makes it I'll be very seriously tempted to go.

Btw, I'm pretty sure MK is way more popular than some of those games that got the automatic entrance.

Thanks Jerrod!

The vote for the seventh game will probably be a close-call.

Most of the Euro players still want T6 to come up first, but with MK9 and KOF '02UM in the race, it's gonna be interesting. ^^
It's a global vote, so who knows...

Let me get this straight...

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition that's only just come out has priority over MK9 when there is already a SF game there?

Soulcalibur V, a game that isn't even out yet will have priority so long as it comes out before the tournament, even though no one will know how to play it properly?

The King Of Fighters XIII, a game not even out on console yet?

MK9 has to compete with The King Of Fighters 2002 UM (an XBLA game), yet another SF game and Garou: Mark Of The Wolves (a game made originally for the NeoGeo) to even have a chance of being there?

That is a serious slap in the face for MK. Still they seem to think as little of Tekken as well.

OK, let's take this point by point:

-3SO is in because the French Arcade 3rd Strike community is one of the largest in the World, they never stopped playing and are coming back in droves on the XBL.

-The World Game Cup is a tournament which was born in 2004 as a Soulcalibur II centric event. So, if it's possible to play SC5 competitively, it will be in (the players are already there, waiting for the new game).
Oh, and the French SC4 community is the World's strongest, so they expect national teams to come & try to win the title.

-Most of the long-time-playing KOF-heads are already playing Arcade KOF13.

- MK is huge in NA, but the average European MK9 tourney has (at most) 16 players entering...

-The Tekken players didn't come "en-masse" (to say the least...) to the WGC last year because there were two big T6 tourneys before and after the event.

All in all we're just being fair with the October vote, we're letting the players choose if the want to come & compete in such & such game at the WGC, or not...

For 3SO - You don't make a World Cup based on what is popular in one country, especially when France isn't exactly world renowned in the FGC.

For SC - it doesn't matter if SC2 was popular, the idea of having SC5 there when it will only have been out for a week to 4 weeks at most is ridiculous and will just mean low quality play. Especially if it is buggy and full of infinites and hasn't been patched.

The number of 'KOF heads' is far below the number of MK fans.

If you're going to have a game there for French people, you can't then turn round and say MK is huge in NA (a whole continent) but nowhere else. Just hypocrisy.

The game choice is poor, your reasoning is poor and the event will be the worse for it.

The only 2 games that make sense to have there without debate are Street Fighter IV and MvC3, due to their popularity at tournaments.

@MsLiMei:

Let's continue for the sake of the argument, because you seem to be trolling quite a bit.

I'm a FG-geek, I'm also a blogger and the tools I use to promote the WGC are readily available to anyone curious enough to check them out.

Here is the list of "Sites, Forums & Blogs" I use (it's not perfect, but it's pretty complete):

http://www.hitcombo.com/1news/outil-annuaire-des-sites-forums-et-blogs-de-la-communaute-version-3-0/

You might notice a wee thing: there are as many FG websites in France as there are in Europe. The French or more precisely the Franco-Belgian community is super active. You might argue about the quality, but the quantity is there.

I'm not gonna use the old: "Tokido said he ranks the Euro FG community in second place behind Japan and before the USA" argument, it's one guy speaking his mind and it doesn't mean a thing. (the sponsor argument is as void, if not voider)

It's more simple than that: it's a French tournament, it's taking place in France and we will cater for our community first, because THEY will come.
Everybody does the same, anywhere!

-Your SC5 is totally valid, but the SC players want to try their hand as soon as possible, they're even in favor of making tournaments on alpha builds.
That's the Soulcalibur community for you!

-Again it's easier to spot good KOF players in France, Belgium, Morocco, The UK etc. than it is to find good MK players.
I'm not saying people are not gonna vote for MK and that it might not end up as the seventh game: there is NO way to know! (and it will bring variety)

As for the choice of games, the list of registrants for the next multi-game Euro Major: Red Fight District really talks for itself.
Some games are more popular than others, Period! (One can't argue with numbers)

Nobody seems to have looked at the Dutch tourney numbers, so I'm gonna elaborate, because it's interesting.
As of today the 3 games with the most registrants for Red fight District (a major tourney in the Netherlands) are :

SSF4AE : 33
MK9 : 12
MVC3 : 9

MK9 might not be the most popular game in Europe, but...

Pointing out your game choice is flawed isn't 'trolling'. There is a problem on message boards with people who think anyone who doesn't agree with them is a troll. It's not a welcome mentality.

It's your tournament. Run it as you please. You're obviously not prepared to listen to advice or do a bit of research that doesn't give you what you want to hear.
