I would like to discuss strategies regarding playing as Liu Kang in MK9. If you have any advice/questions regarding this topic, then SPEAK UP.

*ahem*

I use Liu a lot and he's one of my mains for this game. I feel that I'm pretty good with him, but I could definitely do better. I find that his B+3,1,2 is fxcking BOSS and it leads to mean combos, if you time it right. Whenever I'm close, I end up spamming it and do some 35% combos err day. XD

Also, B+1, Bicycle Kick is pretty good. It's quick and gets an easy 18%, if I remember right. But, it's a lot easier to just do a fireball or Flying Kick in BCK's place.

Flying Kick is pretty awful, IMO. It's suicide if it gets blocked, it doesn't do much damage, and it has a long ass recovery time when missed. I only use it to get to the other side when the other guy jumps.

That's all for me. (Fighting Noob Spambot w/ Liu Kang is TORTURE D:)

I Like Kang also. He is prob my second or third best character. I like using his 2,1,3 kombo to set stuff up. 2,1,3-2,1,3-2,1,3-F+4,3 is a kombo i like. Mixing in 1,2,B+1 is cool also. His xray is cool because the xray is a pop up. His High Low mix ups, Projectiles and speed makes him beast. I also like doing a somesault with 3 out of the dragon stance when the opponent is waking up from being knocked down.

Forgot to mention 2,1,3. It's a good setup and the last hit hits middle (good against crouchers). Really, Liu Kang is great for getting up close and making you guess whether he'll hit high or low.

KOMBO: B+3,1,2-dash-B+3,1,2-dashF+2,4-Bicycle Kick. :D

B+1 xx Bicycle Kick? Both parts of that are unsafe, high, and you cannot hit confirm into bicycle kick--sorry, but no one should ever use that.

Additionally, B+1 is not that fast, it's 14 frames. 1 is 9 frames, 2 is 8 frames, and B+3 is 10 frames, all of which lead to a 30%+ combo, and all are safe is you finish their strings:

1,2,B+1

2,1,3

B+3,1,2

As for the Flying Kick, the ES version is very useful to get in on zoners, as it has armor.

I'd talk more, but I no longer have a PC, and I'm typing on my phone :(

Good luck with using Liu--he's a good character. Don't forget about F+3--it's what can condition your opponent into standing block, so that you can land a B+3 opening. 2,1,3 hits overhead, but anyone familiar with the Liu matchup will block it every time--it's to easy to stand block the final hit. With that being said, F+3 is much harder to react to.
