Looking for help with Kitana combos---especially after a Fan Lift

Hey guys I have started to work on trying to get good with Kitana. I am trying to get her to main status hopefully at some point. The only characters at that level for me right now are Scorpion, Sub Zero, Kabal, Cyrax, Reptile, and Nightwolf. Though admittedly Cyrax and Nightwolf have not worked out so well for me online.

So in any case I am beginning to work with Kitana. I am specifically looking for combos initiated via Fan Lift. I am having trouble with the lift interfering with the height of the opponent and thus the timing. I am hoping for some insight into combos that land consistently post fan lift. They dont have to be monster combos, just descent ones that land consistently.

I have spent about an hour in practice mode with Kitana and I have to say I really like her flexibility in combo strings. I thought it was really fun to add different endings, cancels, and juggles throughout her combos.


A ground combo I have been using is :

Jump Punch, F+BP, FP, B+BP, Fan Toss, Dash, FK, Fan Toss, Dash, FK, Pretty Kick( Down, Back, FK) (11 Hits 43% No Meter)

Hey man, you came to the right place. The resident Kitana player (Nephrite) is on holiday or something I think but I'm sure he will hook you up once he is back.

In the meantime, I have linked some of these guy's vids before. Really well made and awesome learning tools.

Anyway, to OP:

If you wanna up your Kitana you should definitely check her combos and other various tricks posted on YouTube by none other than the legendary konqrr! He even has some videos of her 40%+ damage combos that are unbreakable!

As for the fan lift, I suggest not to use that move as a combo starter as it comes out slow and is very punishable. However, that move is a great tool to extending combos, so use it mid combo with no fear.

What I usually go for after her fan lift is:

dash in, b+2 into fan toss, ground fan toss, f+2 into d, f+2


You can also go for:

dash in, jump in kick into fan toss, ground fan toss, f+2, into d, f+2


If you want to finish off your opponent (if he's not rich in health) you would wanna go for unbreakable combos, so you can do:

air fan toss, ground fan toss, enhanced ground fan toss



Her enhanced fan lift can be used as a good combo starter, especially as a wake-up attack.



I see you already have a great meterless combo, here's another one:


jump in punch - f+2, 1 - extra short delay - neutral jumping punch - dash in & short delay - 4 into fan toss - 4 into fan lift - dash in - b+2 into fan toss - ground fan toss - f+2 into d, f+2

This combo uses no meter and does 50% damage, however as you can see with various dash ins and short time delays it's not very easy to do, but after extensive practice it's not that hard. The part in italics (4 into fan lift) is very tricky and a safer thing to do would be 2 into fan lift, as this string connects easier. This version of the above combo will do 47% damage. If the neutral jumping punch is too hard for you to do (it's definitely not easy and you need patience when practicing) you can leave it out and just prolong the delay before the following "4 into fan toss" string. The combo will then do cca. 45% damage if I'm not mistaken.

Btw, button designations (just in case):

1 = FP ; 2 = BP; 3 = FK ; 4= BK


All the advanced Kitana stuff I've learned, including the above combo and little tricks in it, is thanks to konqrr. So again, if you wanna be really really good with Kitana, definitely check out his YouTube channel.

EDIT: Here's konqrr's YouTube channel, check it out! Oh and, Kitana's d+1 poke is extremely good, abuse it lol! (I especially like to use it to escape nasty pressure from opponents)

Awesome post Nephrite!! Very, very complete. I will begin practicing the combo strings you mentioned. I will especially check out konqrrs channel. I did not even know there was such a thing as unbreakable combos. I still have lots to learn.

I kind if figured the fan lift would be poor to use against human opponents, I have only used Kitana against AI. I will use the square boost to deal with jumpers.

After fan lift: Jump Kick into fan toss, Land, Square Wave. U can catch them with BP,FP, BP after the jump kick into fan toss but the timing is tricky.
