Good to see lesser played characters getting more and more attention.
Baraka to take EVO 2012? Uhmmm...ok maybe not.
Doing it the hard way

Very good Sonya.
I loved these fights, it was so great to see not only a great Sonya, but Shang Tsung and Jax played well, really amazing stuff. These fights really motivate me to wanna get good enough to go to EVO next year, though it's a long shot I'd love to go, need to get my Stryker up though, i would love to see more of him at tourneys, but regardless I'm glad Sonya, Jax and the sleeping giant Shang Tsung got their shine.

With Stryker? Dayum. If you go, good luck, it would be nice to see an underdog win.

Honestly, you don't have to be that good to go to evo. That girl went and she failed big time against Aris.
I'm thinkin' bout going to Evo next year, just to have fun. Meet the pros, and hangout. Should be pretty fun, but fucking expensive.
I didn't know Sonya could be that deadly! God damn Detroit couldn't touch her. Pretty awesome shit by Morty.

I know right? Lol thanks, I also want to see some of the other characters do well and get their shine.
I know once you get to the competitive level, that's when tiers come into play and it would be an uphill battle to even compete with most of the higher up characters, regardless of who is using them, but I'd like the challenge, even if Stryker doesn't receive any additional buffs and I get destroyed, I plan on supporting him and Rain as my counterpick.

That's reassuring, I'm not super familiar with how it works, so that's awesome news, I might drag my brother along and split the costs.
That would be so sweeet to run into fellow MKO memebers at EVO and meeting the pros would be a trip
I'm going to start saving right now for the trip, MK really got me psyched about EVO and I never watched it before this.
That Sonya is viscious, so jealous.

If I was one of the commentators I would of yelled "Get that shit outta here!" everytime morty landed an uppercut.
Great stuff, very fun to watch

I wish there were more Sonya videos showing her potential.
Sure, she is not one of the easiest characters to master this time around, however, she's got some much fun stuff going on for her. Surely there must be more players who've learn to main her.
I know I haven't. :-/

I know there is supposedly another guy who plays Sonya even better than Morty (according to some boards), so there are some good Sonua users out there. You will see a rise in Sonya players soon enough now. As soon as a character does well at a tournament everybody starts picking that character up. Just look at how many Mileena players there are all of a sudden after Reo did so well with her.
Shortly before this tournament another big tourney was won by a Scorpion player. No footage that I could find though, not like most people are not tired of seeing Scorpion anyways Still a good result for a mid-tier character though.
Thanks so much for the videos!
Sonya's rush game is insane. If used to her potential, she can turn the opponent into a freakin' ragdoll for the duration of the match. She can hit every which way like a nonstop rifle. Mortster definitely knows that well.

See I disagree... until the opponent whipped out Jax, it was a deathly dull fight
-_-
All Shang Tsung did was up-fireballs, and all she did was her rings, and then dash punch. Yawn.
Once she got to VS Jax it was okay... saw a few decent combos... And I understand that in a tournament, the goal isn't always to do huge elaborate or varied combos... the aim is to dodge and win etc... and they were certainly both very impressive at avoiding attacks...
But meh :S
Good on him for winning though...

All I can say is please don't ever become a commentator. Your level of "completely letting all the intricate points of a good match go over your head" is astounding.

that^
the first match had so much heat. effin ridiculous.
Aww look at all the experts coming out of the woodwork.
I'm sorry but that Shang V Sonya match was dull. Technically impressive and fulfilling the ideas of strategy and what not?
Sure.
Interesting to watch? Nope.
There's plenty of matches with "heat" or intense fighting, but those Shang fights did not do it for me.
And why would I want to be a commentator? :P The commentators are nothing but irritating. Did you listen to these two? The pissant argument about where Shang's island was? The "white chocolate"?

Fair enough you can have your opinion (which I happen to disagree with) but please explain what you want to see in a match to make it interesting?
Because great use of two hard-to-use characters being played at pro level and with plenty of great mixups and mindgames does not seem to do it for you.

Understand I say this as a total lay-person. MK is the only fighting game I've ever played, and never particularly well. I play for the story and characters, not for the nuances that some people prefer a fighting game for over another. I LOVE the gameplay in this MK, and even I can see what a step up it is... but do I know how any of it works? Do I know the terminology, the nitty gritty? No... heck, I only just learned how to do wake up attacks...
If either of us is "right" I'm sure it's you, but I speak only from the side of the un-learned watcher's entertainment...
Also, I only got the game a few weeks ago (in Australia)...
Now...
When I watched some of the Evo finals... it was Mileena vs someone, Kung Lao maybe?... They dodged effectively, had "mix ups", pro level, mindgames. Everything and the kitten-kaboodle. BUT it wasn't just the same tricks over and over. It was extended combos, it was short combos. It was SURPRISE CAUGHT YOU...
And further, I, as a lay-person, could sit there and go "Oh, THAT'S how you're supposed to play with them." From that one video alone I learnt two epic combos from Mileena and upped my own gameplay by God only knows how much. I couldn't even finish the arcade tower on medium with Mileena and now I can...
And then we come to this match... To clarify, I'm not talking about the VS Jax fight at the end. That worked for me.
But the Shang fight?
I think it was the way the Sonya player was fighting... Staying in between Shang's vertical fireballs and doing her rings.... Clever? Sure. Entertaining for six rounds or however long it went for? Hardly.
Yes they jumped around and avoided each other and blah blah, and I'm sure someone with more of an eye for individual moves can see the technique involved... but it just had me sitting there going... "Yeah I get it... can you do something else?"
On top of that, unlike the VS Jax match, the VS Shang matches taught me nothing. I, as a die-hard Sonya lover with a real desire to improve as her, learned nothing... Sneaky dashing around sure but I could learn that from any video. I learned nothing about Sonya as a fighter. No sneaky tricks exclusive to her, nothing crazy I can show off to my one friend who has the game too... I didn't sit there and go "Wow! THAT'S how you use Sonya!!"
When it got to Jax, yeah I definitely saw some moves I want to try out... but the first one didn't do it for me.
Am I likely wrong, and if I sat and analyzed it I'd see what I was missing? You betcha, but that doesn't change how much I was entertained :P

The video ''tried'' to taught you how to properly zone and rush a Shang Tsung.
Something about the video that made me lol, their obsession with calling women chocolate, Sonya was called white chocolate, then they're talking about Shang Tsung liking black women and calling them Godiva chocolate, I was like, "where in the hell do you get these announcers!?"

LOL. Most of the time I watch this stiff at work so I cannot enable sound. Maybe that's a good thing
For all his faults and flaming he provides, I gotta say Aris is one of my favourite commentators. Him and UltraDavid did a great job at EVO. My dream team would be Tom Brady and UltraDavid to do all matches forever. You learn more listening to Tom than you do watching the actual match.
