Tips on how to beat Sub Zero as Johnny Cage
I main Johnny Cage and do well against almost all characters, but I can't beat a good Sub Zero player. Sub's ice clone renders all my strategies useless, and Johnny's projectile isn't much good either, as it is either blocked or trades hits with Sub's iceball.
Any tips or strategies would be much appreciated.

Block a lot and wait for the slide, punish the hell out of it. Use enhanced shadow kicks to go through the clone and iceballs.
Thanks man. I didn't think of using the enhanced shadow kick. I haven't played a fighting game in almost 10 years, and this one has me sucked in. I'm working hard at becoming more than just a spammer and button masher, but I've still got a long way to go.

Watch tournament play. Talk to me for basic stuff like this. Talk to WhereThereisSMoke, and Fenix for some more advanced stuff.

Haha, I try to help where I can but not sure I'm the most advanced guy here. DarkPassanger, Microchip & Nephrite are all very clued up guys.
I have very little play time with both Johnny and Sub Zero unfortunatley. To be honest though I would imagine Cage struggling to beat Sub as I can imagine that is quite a difficult matchup for someone who is so much of a rushdown character. Sub struggles against good zoners and projectile types imo. I would suggest chipping him with fireballs and hope he loses patience and comes out after you. You should also be able to build some meter this way (making ex-shodow kicks possible). Basically what Zero said.
Best advice; learn another character that you can use as backup when your Johnny struggles. Reptile, Smoke, Kung Lao etc are all great against SubZ.

just out of curiosity, as i do not know johnny cage very well at all, arent his forceballs much quicker and more effective than sub-zero's ice ball in a projectile battle? im sure i could be wrong, but just wondering.

The trouble with Johnny's balls (LOL) are the arch at which they travel. It is very easy to duck under them if you are about jump distance away. It can easily happen that one goes over SZero's head as he is throwing a ice ball. Also even if they do trade, would you rather take a single projectile hit, or eat a full combo (providing Sub can get to frozen victim in time)?

You have to be patient with subzero players. if they stay in the corner ice cloning and throwing ice balls, just stay back and wait for him to come, then punish him.
You can use forceballs, but only right when subzero does and ice clone. You will get frozen and punished if its with an iceball. But Pretty much you need patience and a good enough punish
